1,5-Benzodiazepine is considered as one of the central moieties in the core unit of most drug molecules. Construction of such moieties with a new C-N bond under solvent-free and mild reaction conditions is challenging. Herein, we present a benign protocol for one pot synthesis of 1,5-benzodiazepine derivatives by using ferrocene (FC) supported activated carbon (AC) as a heterogeneous catalyst.

The use of tetracycline hydrochloride (TCH) for veterinary, human therapy, and agriculture has risen in the past few decades, making it to become one of the most exploited antibiotics. However, TCH residue in the environment is causing issues related to the evolution of antibiotic-resistant bacteria. To address such a problem, photodegradation offers a potential solution to decompose these pollutants in wastewater and thereby mitigates negative environmental impacts.

Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) are a versatile class of porous materials offering unprecedented scope for chemical and structural tunability. On account of their synthetic versatility, tunable and exceptional host-guest chemistry they are widely utilized in many prominent water remediation techniques. However, some of the MOFs present low structural stabilities specifically in aqueous and harsh chemical conditions which impedes their potential application in the field.

Today, the development of functional nanostructured materials with specified morphologies utilizing environmentally friendly techniques is a very appealing topic in materials chemistry. Much emphasis has recently been paid to the utilization of biomass to make functional carbonaceous materials of varying forms, specifically carbon helices, with greater implications for the environment, economy, and society. A metal-catalyzed chemical vapour deposition technique has been developed for the fabrication of such carbon helices from nonrenewable hydrocarbons.

What Is Known And Objective: The main objective of this review is to highlight the most relevant studies since 1990 (to date) in the area of medicinal chemistry aspects to provide a panoramic view to the biologists/medicinal chemists working in this area and would assist them in their efforts to design, synthesize and extract (from natural source) coumarin-based anticonvulsant agents. Also, the structure-activity relationship (SAR) studies are also discussed for further rational design of this kind of derivatives. It is hoped that this review will be helpful for new thoughts in the quest for rational designs of more active and less toxic coumarin-based antiepileptic agents.

Nanostructured polymeric membranes are of great importance in enhancing the antifouling properties during water filtration. Nanomaterials with tunable size, morphology and composition, surface modification, and increased functionality provide considerable opportunities for effective wastewater treatment. Thus, in this work, an attempt has been made to use spinel-structured MnCoO as a nanofiller in the fabrication of nanostructured polysulfone (PSF) mixed matrix membranes and is investigated in terms of morphology, hydrophilicity, permeability, protein and natural organic matter separation, dye removal, and, finally, antifouling properties.

Over the past decade, the reactivity of 2-phosphaethynolate (OCP), a heavier analogue of the cyanate anion, has been the subject of momentous interest in the field of modern organometallic chemistry. It is used as a precursor to novel phosphorus-containing heterocycles and as a ligand in decarbonylative processes, serving as a synthetic equivalent of a phosphinidene derivative. This perspective aims to describe advances in the reactivities of phosphaethynolate and arsaethynolate anions (OCE; E = P, As) with main-group element, transition metal, and f-block metal scaffolds.

Perovskite quantum dots (PQDs) exhibit exceptional fluorescence property and are potential candidates for fluorescent metal-ion sensors. The present work shows the presence of inner filter effect (IFE) in perovskite sensing systems and its significance in enhancing the detection limits. Two different sensing systems (with a different extent of IFE), one with simple long-chain monodentate ligand-capped PQDs and the other with short-chain bidentate ligand capped PQDs, were developed toward sensing Co.

An exclusive synthesis of benzo-oxazine, benzo-oxazepine, and benzo-oxazocine from aryl propanal and 2-(hydroxyamino)phenyl alcohol under metal-free conditions is described. O atom transfer and formation of new C═O, C-N, and C-O bonds occur at room temperature to form six-, seven-, and eight-membered heterocycles under one-pot reaction conditions without using an external oxidant and base. The photophysical properties are studied using ultraviolet-visible absorption and photoluminescence.

Organoboron reagents represent a unique class of compounds because of their utility in modern synthetic organic chemistry, often affording unprecedented reactivity. The transformation of the carbon-boron bond into a carbon-X (X = C, N, and O) bond in a stereocontrolled fashion has become invaluable in medicinal chemistry, agrochemistry, and natural products chemistry as well as materials science. Over the past decade, first-row d-block transition metals have become increasingly widely used as catalysts for the formation of a carbon-boron bond, a transformation traditionally catalyzed by expensive precious metals.

Herein, we demonstrate the use of cerium (Ce)-UiO-66 metal organic framework (MOF) for the removal of a variety of potentially toxic pollutants. The Ce-UiO-66 MOF, with similar framework topologies to Zr-UiO-66, has not been explored for its adsorptive properties in water remediation. The replacement of Zr metal center with Ce yields a MOF that can be synthesized in shorter durations with lesser energy consumptions and with excellent multipollutant adsorption properties.

Due to the ever-increasing industrialization, it is critical to protect the environment and conserve water resources by developing efficient wastewater treatment methods. Traditional methods that simultaneously remove heavy metal ions and complex dyes are too expensive and tedious to commercialize. This work demonstrates the versatility, effectiveness, and potential of a biomass-derived adsorbent (from a mangrove fruit of Rhizophora mucronata) synthesized using a simple route for rapid adsorption of complex dyes and heavy metals with an efficiency of near unity.

Building compatible surface on perovskite quantum dots (PQDs) for applications like sensing analytes in aqueous medium is highly challenging and if achieved by simple means can revolutionize disease diagnostics. The present work reports the surface engineering of CsPbBr QDs via "simple ligand exchange process" to achieve water-compatible QDs towards detection of biomolecules. The monodentate oleic acid ligand in CsPbBr QDs is exchanged with dicarboxylic acid containing (bidentate) ligands such as folic acid (FA), ethylenediamine tetra-acetic acid (EDTA), succinic acid (SA) and glutamic acid (GA) to develop an efficient water-compatible PQD-ligand system.
