This study aimed to compare diagnostic sensitivities of a rapid test (Rt) and an ELISA kit for detecting anti-SARS-CoV-2 IgM/IgG in virus-RT-PCR-positive (VPP) and virus-RT-PCR-unchecked (VPU) subjects in an Egyptian cohort during the first wave of SARS-CoV-2 infection. The results revealed higher sensitivity of the Rt for detecting IgM/IgG in the VPP subjects. Both the Rt and ELISA showed identical sensitivities for IgM detection in the VPU subjects.

Reproducible research and open science practices have the potential to accelerate scientific progress by allowing others to reuse research outputs, and by promoting rigorous research that is more likely to yield trustworthy results. However, these practices are uncommon in many fields, so there is a clear need for training that helps and encourages researchers to integrate reproducible research and open science practices into their daily work. Here, we outline eleven strategies for making training in these practices the norm at research institutions.

Post-translational modifications (PTMs) of transcription factors regulate transcriptional activity and play a key role in essentially all biological processes and generate indispensable insight towards biological function including activity state, subcellular localization, protein solubility, protein folding, substrate trafficking, and protein-protein interactions. Amino acids modified chemically via PTMs, function as molecular switches and affect the protein function and characterization and increase the proteome complexity. Krüppel-like transcription factors (KLFs) control essential cellular processes including proliferation, differentiation, migration, programmed cell death and various cancer-relevant processes.

The role of iron in promoting atherosclerosis, and hence the cardiovascular, neurodegenerative and other diseases that result from atherosclerosis, has been fiercely controversial. Preventing fluorophore photobleaching and unwanted blinking is crucial for single-molecule fluorescence (SMF) studies. Reductants achieve photoprotection quenching excited triplet states, yet either require counteragents or, for popular alkyl-thiols, are limited to cyanine dye Cy3 protection. Here, we provide mechanistic and imaging results showing that the naturally occurring amino acid ergothioneine and its analogue dramatically enhance photostability for Cy3, Cy5, and their conformationally restrained congeners, providing a biocompatible universal solution for demanding fluorescence imaging.

We report the development of a self-renewable tag (srTAG) for protein fluorescence imaging. srTAG leverages the "on-protein" fluorophore equilibrium between the fluorescent zwitterion and non-fluorescent spirocyclic form and the reversible fluorescence labeling to enable self-recovery of fluorescence after photobleaching. This small-sized srTAG allows 2-6 times longer imaging duration compared to other commonly used self-labeling tags and is compatible with fluorophores with different spectral properties.

Terrestrial organisms developed circadian rhythms for adaptation to Earth's quasi-24-h rotation. Achieving precise rhythms requires diurnal oscillation of fundamental biological processes, such as rhythmic shifts in the cellular translational landscape; however, regulatory mechanisms underlying rhythmic translation remain elusive.
