14-3-3σ protein is one of the seven isoforms from the highly conserved eukaryotic 14-3-3 protein family. Downregulation of 14-3-3σ expression has been observed in various tumors. TRIM25 is responsible for the proteolytic degradation of 14-3-3σ, in which abrogation of TRIM25 suppressed tumor growth through 14-3-3σ upregulation.

Acanthamoeba castellanii causes granulomatous amoebic encephalitis, an uncommon but severe brain infection and sight-threatening Acanthamoeba keratitis. Most of the currently used anti-amoebic treatments are not always effective, due to persistence of the cyst stage, and recurrence can occur. Here in this study we synthesize cinnamic acid and lactobionic acid-based magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs) using co-precipitation technique.

This study fabricated tantalum (Ta)-doped titanium dioxide with a unique nanorod-assembled actinomorphic-flower-like microsphere structured film. The Ta-doped TiO actinomorphic-flower-like microsphere (TAFM) was fabricated via the solution immersion method in a Schott bottle with a home-made improvised clamp. The samples were characterised using FESEM, HRTEM, XRD, Raman, XPS, and Hall effect measurements for their structural and electrical properties.

Flame retardants are added to consumer products to retard the ignition of combustible materials. Technical mixtures of polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) and hexabromocyclododecane (HBCDD) were massively used for several decades. They are bioaccumulative, persistent, and have adverse effects on organisms.

Different designs of the plant tissue culture vessel, such as size, material, and shape, may alter its microenvironment atmosphere. The present study was conducted on protocorm-like bodies (PLBs) of Sabin Blue orchid to determine the development of PLBs on plastic and glass culture vessels of different sizes. PLBs were cultured in half-strength Murashige and Skoog (MS) medium with the same initial weight of 0.

Liquid-solid triboelectric nanogenerators (L-S TENGs) can generate corresponding electrical signal responses through the contact separation of droplets and dielectrics and have a wide range of applications in energy harvesting and self-powered sensing. However, the contact between the droplet and the electret will cause the contact L-S TENG's performance degradation or even failure. Here we report a noncontact triboelectric nanogenerator (NCLS-TENG) that can effectively sense droplet stimuli without contact with droplets and convert them into electrical energy or corresponding electrical signals.

Efficient Synthesis of DNA Duplexes Containing Reduced Acetaldehyde Interstrand Cross-Links.

Centre for Chemical Biology, Department of Chemistry, Sheffield Institute for Nucleic Acids, University of Sheffield, Brook Hill, Sheffield S3 7HF, U.K.

DNA interstrand cross-links (ICLs) prevent DNA replication and transcription and can lead to potentially lethal events, such as cancer or bone marrow failure. ICLs are typically repaired by proteins within the Fanconi Anemia (FA) pathway, although the details of the pathway are not fully established. Methods to generate DNA containing ICLs are key to furthering the understanding of DNA cross-link repair.

Monoallelic or biallelic RAD51C germline mutations results in chromosome instability disorders such as Fanconi anemia and cancers. The bona fide function of RAD51C is to assist RAD51 nucleoprotein filament onto single-strand DNA to complete homologous recombination (HR) repair. In addition to HR repair, the role of RAD51C in DNA replication is emerging when replication forks are transiently or irreversibly stalled.

Root exudation is a major pathway of organic carbon input into soils. It affects soil physical properties, element solubility as well as speciation, and impacts the microbial community in the rhizosphere. Root exudates contain a large number of primary and secondary plant metabolites, and the amount and composition are highly variable depending on plant species and developmental stage.

Stable isotope labeling for detection of ozonation byproducts in effluent organic matter with FT-ICR-MS.

Despite effluent organic matter (EfOM) being a major consumer of ozone during wastewater treatment, little is known about ozonation byproducts (OBPs) produced from EfOM. To unambiguously identify OBPs, heavy ozone was used to ozonate EfOM, resulting in O labeled and unlabeled OBPs. Labeled OBPs mostly represent a single O transfer and were classified as either direct or indirect OBPs based on the O/O intensity ratios of the isotopologues.

The thermal and rheological properties of bio-composite filament materials are crucial characteristics in the development of a bio-composite Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM) filament since the printing mechanism of FDM strongly depends on the heating and extrusion process. The effect of chemical treatment on the thermal and rheological properties was investigated to develop composite filaments for FDM using natural fibres such as sugar palm fibre (SPF). SPF underwent alkaline and silane treatment processes before being reinforced with PLA for improving adhesion and removing impurities.

ELIC is a prokaryotic homopentameric ligand-gated ion channel that is homologous to vertebrate nicotinic acetylcholine receptors. Acetylcholine binds to ELIC but fails to activate it, despite bringing about conformational changes indicative of activation. Instead, acetylcholine competitively inhibits agonist-activated ELIC currents.
