Chlorine gas is extensively utilised in industries as both a disinfectant and for wastewater treatment. It has a pungent and irritating odour that is comparable with that of bleach and can cause serious health issues such as headaches and breathing difficulties. Hence, efficiently, and accurately monitoring chlorine gas is critical to ensure that no undesirable incidents occur.

A novel green protocol has been developed for the synthesis of quinazolinone-tetrazole conjugates (7a-g, 8a-g and 9a-g) using recyclable nano-CuFeO catalyst in water. Initially, 2-mercapto-3-substituted phenethylquinazolin-4(3H)-one (5a-c) was prepared by using nano-CuFeO catalyst in water. Then, compounds (5a-c) were reacted with 1-bromo-3-chloropropane under nano-CuFeO catalyst in water solvent to give S-alkylated quinazolinone core intermediate (6a-c), which was subsequently reacted with 1-substituted-1H-tetrazole-5-thiol (2a-g) by employing the similar reaction conditions to afford the final target compounds.

Thus, the aim of this study was to optimize the detection of Ac using a thiolated acephate binding aptamer-citrate capped gold nanoparticle (TABA-Cit-AuNP) sensor that also incorporated an image processing technique. The effects of independent variables, such as the incubation period of TABA-Cit-AuNPs (3-24 h) for binding TABA to Cit-AuNPs, the concentration of phosphate buffer saline (PBS) (0.

In this study we report an environmentally friendly, facile and straightforward sonochemical synthetic strategy for a CoO/GO nanocomposite using ,'-bis(salicylidene)ethylenediaminocobalt(ii) as a precursor and graphene oxide sheets as an immobilization support for CoO nanoparticles. The synthesis was facilitated by physical and chemical effects of cavitation bubbles. The synthesized nanocomposite was thoroughly characterized for its composition and morphology using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), Energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS), Scanning electron microscopy (SEM), UV-visible, Raman and X-ray diffraction spectroscopy (XRD), The results show CoO nanoparticles of 10 nm (SD 3 nm) were prepared on well exfoliated sheets of GO.

is a unicellular freshwater alga containing many bioactive compounds, especially carotenoids, which are the strongest antioxidants among the pigments. This study evaluates the composition and content of carotenoids and other pigments in both stages of algae life cycle, especially in the green vegetative stage, less studied in comparison to the red stage. To determine the composition and content of carotenoids, a combination of HPLC-DAD and LC-QTOF-MS was used.

Metal-organic ligands with mixed chalcogenides are potential compounds for the preparation of mixed anionic metal chalcogenide alloys. However, only a few of such ligands are known, and their complexes are not well explored. We have prepared homo- and hetero-dichalcogenoimidodiphosphinate [(EE'PPrNH)] (E, E' = Se, Se; S, S; S, Se) complexes of manganese and copper through metathetical reactions.

Personal measurements of radiofrequency electromagnetic fields (RF-EMF) have been used in several studies to characterise personal exposure in daily life, but such data are limitedly available for adolescents, and not yet for the United Kingdom (UK). In this study, we aimed to characterise personal exposure to RF-EMF in adolescents and to study the association between exposure and rules applied at school and at home to restrict wireless communication use, likely implemented to reduce other effects of mobile technology (e.g.

In this study, multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) were chemically modified using three acid treatment methods to introduce the surface oxygen functional group (SOFG). The presence of SOFG on the MWCNTs has been characterized by Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy. Morphology, structural and thermal properties were performed using Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscopy (FESEM), Raman spectroscopy, and Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), respectively.

One of the major impediments to the commercialization of biodegradable plastic is the high cost of substrate. Consequently, there is a continuous search for effective microorganisms and cheaper carbon substrates to reduce the high production cost. In this study, waste transformer oil-degrading bacteria were isolated from soil, wastewater, and sediment samples, using a mineral salt medium (MSM) supplemented with 1% waste transformer oil as the sole carbon source.

The use of insecticides remains important in managing pest insects. Over the years, many insects manifested physiological and behavioral modifications resulting in reduced efficacy of insecticides targeted against them. Emerging evidence suggests that bacterial symbionts could modulate susceptibility of host insects against insecticides.

Although there have been recent transformative advances in the area of protein structure prediction, prediction of point mutations that improve protein stability remains challenging. It is possible to construct and screen large mutant libraries for improved activity or ligand binding. However, reliable screens for mutants that improve protein stability do not yet exist, especially for proteins that are well folded and relatively stable.

Poly(3-hydroxybutyrate--3-hydroxyvalerate) (P(3HB--3HV)) is the most studied short-chain-length polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHA) with high application importance in various fields. The domination of high-cost propionate and valerate over other 3-hydroxyvalerate (3HV) precursors owing to their wide preference among PHA-producing bacteria has hindered the development of diverse production processes. As alkyl alcohols are mainly produced from inexpensive starting materials through oxo synthesis, they contribute a cost-effective advantage over propionate and valerate.

In the present work, nonwoven cotton fabric was modified for antibacterial applications using low-cost and eco-friendly precursors. The treatment of fabric with alkali leads to the formation of active sites for surface modification, followed by dip coating with silver nanoparticles and chitosan. The surface was chlorinated in the next step to transform amide (N-H) groups in chitosan into N-halamine (N-Cl).

The onset of the Rayleigh-Benard convection (RBC) in a heated from above normal He-I layer in a cylindrical vessel in the temperature range T < T ≤ T (RBC in non-Oberbeck-Boussinesq approximation) is attended by the emergence of a number of vortices on the free liquid surface. Here, T = 2.1768 K is the temperature of the superfluid He-II-normal He-I phase transition, and the liquid density passes through a well-pronounced maximum at T ≈ T + 6 mK.

Developing new antibacterial drugs by using traditional ways is insufficient to meet existing challenges; hence, new strategies in the field of antibacterial discovery are necessary. An alternative strategy is to improve the efficacy of currently available antibiotics. Herein, the antibacterial efficacy of drugs (Cefixime, Sulfamethoxazole, and Moxifloxacin) and drug-loaded cinnamic acid-coated magnetic iron oxide and mesoporous silica nanoparticles (NPs) was elucidated versus Gram-negative bacteria (, neuropathogenic K1 and ) and Gram-positive bacteria (Methicillin-resistant (MRSA), and ).
