Human pegivirus identified in severe myelitis and optic neuritis in immunocompromised patients: A pathogenic role for a forgotten virus?

Rev Neurol (Paris)

April 2023

Service de Neurologie, Hôpital Fondation Adolphe-de-Rothschild, 25-29, rue Manin, 75940 Paris cedex 19, France. Electronic address:

The role of Human pegivirus (HPgV) in patients with encephalitis has been recently questioned. We present cases of 4 patients with similar clinical, biological, and radiological characteristics, including a past history of transplantation with long-term immunosuppression and a progressive course of severe and predominantly myelitis, associated in 3 cases with optic neuropathy causing blindness. Extensive workup was negative but analysis of the CSF by use of pan-microorganism DNA- and RNA-based shotgun metagenomics was positive for HPgV.

Congenital aniridia is a rare panocular disease defined by a national diagnostic and care protocol (PNDS) validated by the HAS. In most cases, it is due to an abnormality in the PAX6 gene, located at 11p13. Aniridia is a potentially blinding autosomal dominant disease with high penetrance.

Article Synopsis
  • This study compared surgical outcomes for retinal detachment repair using air or gas tamponade in 262 patients with superior retinal breaks.
  • Results showed no significant difference in success rates between the air and gas groups at 3 and 6 months, both achieving high success rates.
  • However, the air group had better early visual recovery, lower rates of postoperative ocular hypertension, and fewer incidents of epiretinal membrane formation at 6 months compared to the gas group.

Background And Objective: The prognosis in myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein (MOG) antibody-associated disease (MOGAD) is a matter of debate. Our aim was to assess the long-term outcomes of patients with MOGAD.

Methods: We retrospectively analysed the clinical and paraclinical data of patients from the French nationwide observatory study NOMADMUS who tested positive for MOG antibodies (MOG-IgG) and who had clinical follow-up of at least 8 years from their first episode.

Purpose: The aim of this study was to compare the functional and anatomical effectiveness of photodynamic therapy (PDT) versus proton beam therapy (PBT) in a real-life setting for the treatment of circumscribed choroidal hemangioma.

Methods: A total of 191 patients with a diagnosis of circumscribed choroidal hemangioma and treated by PBT or PDT were included for analyses.

Results: The 119 patients (62.

Purpose: To report the impact of non-penetrating deep sclerectomy (NPDS) in severe and end-stage glaucoma treatment on the central 10° visual field progression (mean deviation, four central points, foveal threshold) and assess the risk of sudden visual loss.

Methods: Monocenter database study. We reviewed records of 34 eyes with severe or end-stage glaucoma that underwent NPDS between 2009 and 2015, at the National Ophthalmology Center of XV-XX (Paris, France).

Activation of cerebellar lobules VI-VII during motor imagery but not during motor activation in unilateral cerebellar hypoplasia.

Cerebellum Ataxias

September 2015

Unité d'Etude du Mouvement, FNRS Neurologie, ULB Erasme, Brussels, Belgium.

We report the case of a 25 year-old patient who underwent morphological and functional brain magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) to investigate a left neocerebellar hypoplasia discovered incidentally. We compared brain activation during overt and covert finger movements, and haptic discrimination. The contralateral cerebellar hemisphere compensated for mental imagery of hand movements and haptic discrimination, but not for motor execution.

December 1990

Faculté de Médecine Pitié-Salpêtrière, Service de Neuroradiologie, Centre Hospitalier National d'Ophtalmologie des XV-XX, Paris.

This work deals with dynamic anatomy of human body explored by magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Recent development of MRI pulse sequences allow very fast data acquisition. Using an 1,5 Tesla system (General Electric--CGR, Signa), different body segments have been explored, in two different ways.
