Whenever changes occur in this distribution, the displacement of the body center of mass (CoM) may lead to a loss of balance. Ants are an interesting biological model with which to investigate how an animal copes with such changes because, when they transport food, their CoM may be displaced from its usual position.

Synthesis and Comprehensive Characterization of Amino Acid-Derived Vinyl Monomer Gels.

In this study, we report an easy synthetic pathway to vinyl monomers derivatized with amino acids. Tyrosine-, phenylalanine-, tryptophan-, leucine-, and methionine-based monomers were synthesized, and their polymerization in the presence of cross-linking agents led to the formation of amino acid-based gels. The nature of cross-linker, the time of polymerization, and the type of initiation (photopolymerization or thermopolymerization) were investigated.

Multicomponent syntheses enable the discovery of novel quisinostat-derived chemotypes as histone deacetylase inhibitors.

In this study, we synthesized and evaluated novel histone deacetylase (HDAC) inhibitors derived from the clinical candidate quisinostat. A library of 16 compounds categorized in three novel chemotypes was rapidly generated using multicomponent reactions (MCRs), enabling efficient structure-activity relationship studies. First, the compounds were evaluated for their activity against the Plasmodium falciparum strains 3D7 and Dd2, the main malaria-causing parasite, identifying compound 18b of the type C series as the most potent.

Interconnection between adolescents' and family members' sleep.

Deficient sleep has been linked to a broad range of physical, cognitive and mental health impacts, in particular during adolescence. It is thus essential to understand its underlying mechanisms, including family factors. The goal of our study was to assess through combined subjective and objective assessments, how family members' daily variations in sleep are interconnected, between parents and siblings of adolescents.

Comparative Analysis of Anodized TiO Nanotubes and Hydrothermally Synthesized TiO Nanotubes: Morphological, Structural, and Photoelectrochemical Properties.

This study presents a comparative analysis of anodization and hydrothermal techniques for synthesizing TiO nanotubes directly on titanium foil. It emphasizes its advantages as a substrate due to its superior conductivity and efficient charge transfer. Optimized synthesis conditions enable a thorough evaluation of the resulting nanotubes' morphology, structure, and optical properties, ultimately assessing their photoelectrochemical and photocatalytic performances.

Prognostic impact of circulating tumor DNA detection in portal and peripheral blood in resected pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma patients.

In PDAC patients, ctDNA detection's prognostic significance needs validation especially in resected patients. This study investigated ctDNA kinetics in portal and peripheral blood before and after resection, and whether tissue mobilization during surgery influences ctDNA detection. In this single-center prospective cohort, portal and peripheral blood were drawn during pancreaticoduodenectomy before and after tissue mobilization, during 12 postoperative months and were associated with overall survival (OS), recurrence-free survival (RFS) and CA19-9 (secondary endpoints).

Oro-facial filariasis-A systematic review of the literature.

Introduction: Filarial pathogens are described to inhabit and affect subcutaneous and lymphatic tissues of the human host. To date, little is known on how much oral health might be affected by filarial infections, even though involvement of the oro-facial region is pathophysiologically possible. Therefore, we conducted this systematic review of the literature to help reduce the current evidence gap.

Older people in the world of esport: a qualitative study.

Introduction: The inclusion of older players in the gaming world is growing rapidly, leading to the emergence of specific categories for them at major esport events. The aim of this study is to analyze the psychological issues faced by older people when engaging with the competitive context of esport.

Materials And Methods: The study was conducted in 2021 within the French association Silver Geek, which offers digital workshops using Nintendo Wii consoles to older people living in retirement homes and organizes annual amateur competitions between teams of older adults.

Steady-State Drug Exposure of Repeated IV Bolus Administration for a One Compartment Pharmacokinetic Model with Sigmoidal Hill Elimination.

Drugs exhibiting nonlinear pharmacokinetics hold significant importance in drug research and development. However, evaluating drug exposure accurately is challenging with the current formulae established for linear pharmacokinetics. This article aims to investigate the steady-state drug exposure for a one-compartment pharmacokinetic (PK) model with sigmoidal Hill elimination, focusing on three key topics: the comparison between steady-state drug exposure of repeated intravenous (IV) bolus ( ) and total drug exposure after a single IV bolus ( ); the evolution of steady-state drug concentration with varying dosing frequencies; and the control of drug pharmacokinetics in multiple-dose therapeutic scenarios.

Background: Insecticides are a crucial component of vector control. However, resistance constitute a threat on their efficacy and the gains obtained over the years through malaria vector control. In Gabon, little data on phenotypic insecticide resistance in Anopheles vectors are published, compromising the rational implementation of resistance management strategies.

The effect of Plasmodium falciparum exposure and maternal anti-circumsporozoite protein antibodies on responses to RTS,S/AS01 vaccination in infants and children: an ancillary observational immunological study to a phase 3, randomised clinical trial.

Background: The RTS,S/AS01 malaria vaccine showed lower antibody response and protective efficacy in infants aged 6-12 weeks compared with children aged 5-17 months (for whom this vaccine is recommended). We aimed to study the effect of previous Plasmodium falciparum exposure on the antibody responses to RTS,S/AS01 vaccination in infants and children, and the mediating effect of baseline (including maternal) anti-circumsporozoite protein (CSP) antibodies.

Methods: In this observational study, we included children and infants from six African countries (Burkina Faso, Gabon, Ghana, Kenya, Mozambique, and Tanzania) enrolled in the MAL067 immunology ancillary study of the RTS,S/AS01 phase 3 clinical trial from March 27, 2009, to Jan 21, 2011.

SARS-CoV-2 Antibody Seroprevalence in Gabon: Findings from a Nationwide Household Serosurvey in a Sub-Saharan Africa Country.

Seroconversion surveys of anti-SARS-CoV-2 antibodies provide accurate estimates of the prevalence of SARS-CoV-2 infections. This nationwide population-based cross-sectional serosurvey aimed to evaluate the prevalence of SARS-CoV-2 antibodies among residents in Gabon and compare the estimated cumulative number of COVID-19 cases with the officially registered number of laboratory-confirmed cases up to December 2021. Households in each province were randomly selected.

Innate defensive behaviors are essential for species survival. While these behaviors start to develop early in an individual's life, there is still much to be understood about how they evolve with advancing age. Considering that aging is often accompanied by various cognitive and physical declines, we tested the hypothesis that innate fear behaviors and underlying cerebral mechanisms are modified by aging.

Long-term real world evidence of CPX-351 of high-risk AML patients identified high rate of negative MRD and prolonged OS.

CPX-351 has been approved for patients with therapy-related acute myeloid leukemia (t-AML) or AML with myelodysplasia-related changes (MRC-AML). No extensive data are available on MRD and long-term clinical outcome using CPX-351 in AML in real-life. We retrospectively collected data from 168 patients in 36 centers in France and Italy who had received one or two cycles of induction with CPX-351.

Protocol to identify E3 ligases amenable to biodegraders using a cell-based screening.

Here, we provide a protocol for the identification of E3 ubiquitin ligases that are functional when implemented as biodegraders using a cell-based screening assay. We describe steps for establishing a stable cell line expressing a GFP-tagged protein of interest (POI), preparing a sub-library of E3 ligases to screen, and performing the cell-based screening. This protocol can be broadly applied to identify any functional E3 ligase in a biodegrader setting.

Borderline personality disorder and post-traumatic stress disorder in adolescents: protocol for a comparative study of borderline personality disorder with and without comorbid post-traumatic stress disorder (BORDERSTRESS-ADO).

Background: Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) is a prevalent and debilitating psychiatric condition often accompanied by Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), with a substantial prevalence of trauma history among affected individuals. The clinical, cognitive, and cerebral parallels shared with PTSD suggest a trauma-related etiology for BPD. Studies consistently demonstrate a reduction in hippocampal volume in individuals with BPD, echoing findings in PTSD.

DIONYSUS: a database of protein-carbohydrate interfaces.

Protein-carbohydrate interactions govern a wide variety of biological processes and play an essential role in the development of different diseases. Here, we present DIONYSUS, the first database of protein-carbohydrate interfaces annotated according to structural, chemical and functional properties of both proteins and carbohydrates. We provide exhaustive information on the nature of interactions, binding site composition, biological function and specific additional information retrieved from existing databases.

Role of artificial intelligence in haematolymphoid diagnostics.

The advent of digital pathology and the deployment of high-throughput molecular techniques are generating an unprecedented mass of data. Thanks to advances in computational sciences, artificial intelligence (AI) approaches represent a promising avenue for extracting relevant information from complex data structures. From diagnostic assistance to powerful research tools, the potential fields of application of machine learning techniques in pathology are vast and constitute the subject of considerable research work.

Trend of RTS,S vaccine uptake in the malaria vaccine implementing programme (MVIP) pilot regions, Ghana; 2019-2022.

Introduction: The uptake trend of a new vaccine is unpredictable and may reflect the quality of introduction process and community acceptance. The objective of this study was to conduct a trend analysis of RTS,S malaria vaccine uptake in the seven pilot regions of Ghana from 2019 to 2022. The findings are envisaged to strengthen malaria vaccine introductions in the future.
