The Role of Multimodality Imaging in Multiple Valvular Heart Diseases. A Clinical Consensus Statement of the European Association of Cardiovascular Imaging (EACVI) of the ESC.

With this document, the European Association of Cardiovascular Imaging (EACVI) provides an Expert Consensus on the role of multi-modality imaging (MMI) in the management of patients with multiple valvular heart disease (MVD). Emphasis is given to the use of MMI to unravel the diagnostic challenges that characterize these patients and to improve risk stratification. Complementing the last European Society of Cardiology and European Association of Cardio-Thoracic Surgery guidelines on valvular heart disease, this Expert Consensus document also outlines how MMI assessment should form an integral part of the multi-disciplinary heart team discussion for patients with MVD to help with complex decision-making regarding the choice and timing of treatment.

Advancing stroke rehabilitation: the role of wearable technology according to research experts.

Background: Advancements in wearable technology have created new opportunities to monitor stroke survivors' behaviors in daily activities. Research insights are needed to guide its adoption in clinical practice, address current gaps, and shape the future of stroke rehabilitation. This project aims to: (1) Understand stroke rehabilitation researchers' perspectives on the opportunities, challenges, and clinical relevance of wearable technology for stroke rehabilitation, and (2) Identify necessary next steps to integrate wearable technology in research and clinical practice.

Communicating scientific evidence: drugs for Alzheimer's disease as a case study.

This paper reviews the scientific evidence on new anti-amyloid monoclonal antibodies for treating Alzheimer's disease as a case study for improving scientific evidence communication. We introduce five guidelines condensed from the biomedical evidence literature but adapted to the short format of science communication in e.g.

Effects of various modes of forward and backward cycling on neuro-biomechanical outcomes in individuals after stroke and healthy controls.

Background: Stationary cycling is recommended for post-stroke rehabilitation. This study assessed neuro-biomechanical outcomes of forward and backward cycling in three different modes: free-pedalling, constant speed (30 RPM) and constant resistance (5 or 10 Nm) in healthy controls and individuals after stroke.

Methods: Ten individuals after stroke and 10 healthy controls performed 60s cycling trials in different directions and modes on a semi-recumbent bike prototype.

Salt-Compact Albumin as a New Pure Protein-based Biomaterials: From Design to In Vivo Studies.

Current biodegradable materials are facing many challenges when used for the design of implantable devices because of shortcomings such as toxicity of crosslinking agents and degradation derivatives, limited cell adhesion, and limited immunological compatibility. Here, a class of materials built entirely of stable protein is designed using a simple protocol based on salt-assisted compaction of albumin, breaking with current crosslinking strategies. Salt-assisted compaction is based on the assembly of albumin in the presence of high concentrations of specific salts such as sodium bromide.

What is the current state of precision rehabilitation? Protocol for a scoping study with a consultation phase.

Introduction: Precision health can be described as the right intervention, at the right time, for the right person, with a focus on monitoring and maintaining health in a longitudinal approach. Despite an increasing focus on precision approaches in medicine, their application in a rehabilitation context remains unexplored. As such, a greater understanding of the current state of the literature is required, in combination with clinician, researcher and healthcare manager perspectives regarding barriers and facilitators to the practical implementation of precision rehabilitation in clinical practice.

Data management and sharing.

Guided by the FAIR principles (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable), responsible data sharing requires well-organized, high-quality datasets. However, researchers often struggle with implementing Data Management and Sharing Plans (DMSPs) due to lack of knowledge on how to do this, time constraints, legal, technical and financial challenges, particularly concerning data ownership and privacy. While patients support data sharing, researchers and funders may hesitate, fearing the loss of intellectual property or competitive advantage.

Music and hypnosis for well-being in retirement homes: A pilot study.

Anxiety, pain and poor well-being are major issues in elderly individuals. Complementary interventions, such as music and hypnosis, are increasingly used to address these issues. The objectives of this study were to assess immediate changes in anxiety, pain and well-being during personalized prerecorded music and hypnosis interventions compared to control sessions, and to explore participants' subjective experiences.

Forms and correlates of child maltreatment among autistic children involved in child protection services.

Background: Child maltreatment is a significant social problem impacting both health and society, with severe and enduring consequences. Certain children, such as those with neurodevelopmental conditions like autism, may be more at risk of experiencing maltreatment. However, little research has examined the characteristics of these children.

Increasing stress resilience in older adults through a 6-week prevention program: effects on coping strategies, anxiety symptoms, and cortisol levels.

Introduction: As people age, chronic stress, resulting in prolonged or repeated activation of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis, has been associated with long-term adverse health outcomes. Coping strategies and social support have been recognized as contributing to resilience to stress in older adults. Few studies have evaluated stress management training (SMT) interventions based on psychoneuroendocrinology that were designed to be delivered to healthy older adults in community settings.

Incomplete reporting of adverse events in duloxetine trials: a meta-research survey of randomized controlled trials versus placebo.

Objective: Relying on published data alone might be insufficient for meta-analyses to be reliable and trustworthy since selective outcome reporting is common, especially for adverse events. We investigated the existence of selective reporting and its potential for bias in a case study exploring adverse events of duloxetine in adults.

Study Design And Setting: We systematically searched all previous meta-analyses/pooled analyses on duloxetine published on PubMed for 7 indications approved by the American and European health authorities.

Obesity Phenotypes, Lifestyle Medicine, and Population Health: Precision Needed Everywhere!

The worldwide prevalence of obesity is a key factor involved in the epidemic proportions reached by chronic societal diseases. A revolution in the study of obesity has been the development of imaging techniques for the measurement of its regional distribution. These imaging studies have consistently reported that individuals with an excess of visceral adipose tissue (VAT) were those characterized by the highest cardiometabolic risk.

Comparative Effects of Glenzocimab and Eptifibatide on Bleeding Severity in 2 Mouse Models of Intracranial Hemorrhage.

Background: Antiplatelet drugs represent potential candidates for protecting the penumbral microcirculation during cerebral ischemia and improving the benefits of arterial recanalization in ischemic stroke. Yet while the efficacy of such adjuvant strategies has been shown to be highly time dependent, antiplatelet therapy at the acute phase of ischemic stroke cannot be envisioned until the diagnosis of stroke and its ischemic nature have been confirmed because of the presumed risk of worsening bleeding in case of intracranial hemorrhage (ICH). Here, we investigated this risk for 2 antiplatelet drugs currently being tested in clinical trials for ischemic stroke, glenzocimab and eptifibatide, in 2 mouse models of ICH.

Background: The benefits of Interdisciplinary Rehabilitation in an Outpatient Specialised Unit (IROSU) have not been determined.

Objectives: To compare the effects of IROSU and physiotherapy in the community on impairment, function and Quality Of Life (QoL) in people with Multiple Sclerosis (pwMS) and to determine the medico-economic impact.

Methods: Pragmatic, multicentre, parallel, randomized (centralised computer-generated randomisation) controlled trial.

Physical activity and its benefits on adolescents' mental health through self-esteem.

Background: Since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, the scientific community has been concerned about the high rates of psychological distress among adolescents. The pandemic not only tested adolescents' adaptation, but also disrupted key areas of their development. This demonstrates the need to study their psychological adjustment over time during this critical period to better guide services.

Promotion of Cardiometabolic Health: A Personal Journey.

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: Narrative review of the author's main contributions to the field of cardiovascular health spanning four decades, with a focus on findings related to 1- the pathophysiology of obesity, insulin resistance, type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease, and 2- the management/prevention of these conditions. Particular attention is given to the importance of regular physical activity. RECENT FINDINGS: Because behaviors and their physiological consequences are still not measured in clinical practice, it is proposed to systematically assess and target "lifestyle vital signs" (waist circumference, cardiorespiratory fitness, food-based diet quality and level of leisure-time physical activity) in primary care.

Dysfunctional eating attitudes and behaviors among athletes: The role and potential of virtual reality.

This brief article discusses the current state of knowledge on the use of virtual reality in assessing and/or treating body image and body image disturbances among athletes with dysfunctional eating attitudes and behaviors ( i.e., eating disorders and disordered eating).

Addressing evidence needs during health crises in the province of Quebec (Canada): a proposed action plan for rapid evidence synthesis.

Background: The COVID-19 pandemic necessitated the rapid availability of evidence to respond in a timely manner to the needs of practice settings and decision-makers in health and social services. Now that the pandemic is over, it is time to put in place actions to improve the capacity of systems to meet knowledge needs in a situation of crisis. The main objective of this project was thus to develop an action plan for the rapid syntheses of evidence in times of health crisis in Quebec (Canada).

Profiles of physician follow-up care, correlates and outcomes among patients affected by an incident mental disorder.

Objectives: This study identified profiles of outpatient physician follow-up care and other practice features, mostly after detection of incident mental disorders (MD), and associated these profiles with patient characteristics and subsequent adverse outcomes.

Methods: A cohort of 170,957 patients age 12 + with a new or recurrent MD detected in 2019-20 was investigated based on data from the Quebec Integrated Chronic Disease Surveillance System. Latent class analysis was performed to identify follow-up care profiles, mostly within one year of MD detection.

Hypertensive Response to Exercise in Normotensive Men and Women with Abdominal Obesity: Association with Subclinical Adverse Cardiac Remodeling.

Hypertensive response to exercise (HRE) is an established risk factor for cardiovascular events. HRE is prevalent among people with excess adiposity. Both obesity and HRE have been individually associated with adverse cardiac remodeling.

Task relevant autoencoding enhances machine learning for human neuroscience.

In human neuroscience, machine learning can help reveal lower-dimensional neural representations relevant to subjects' behavior. However, state-of-the-art models typically require large datasets to train, and so are prone to overfitting on human neuroimaging data that often possess few samples but many input dimensions. Here, we capitalized on the fact that the features we seek in human neuroscience are precisely those relevant to subjects' behavior rather than noise or other irrelevant factors.

Joint Crisis Plan in Mental Health Settings: A Reflective Process More than an Intervention Tool?

Background/objectives: Coercion in mental health is challenged, prompting reduction interventions. Among those, the Joint Crisis Plan (JCP), which aims to document individuals' treatment preferences in case of future de-compensation, regardless of the potential loss of discernment, has been identified as a key path to study. Identified challenges related to its implementation highlight the need to adapt this intervention to the local context.

Translating Evidence-Based Self-Management Interventions Using a Stepped-Care Approach for Patients With Cancer and Their Caregivers: A Pilot Sequential Multiple Assignment Randomized Trial Design.

Background: Self-directed interventions are cost-effective for patients with cancer and their family caregivers, but barriers to use can compromise adherence and efficacy.

Aim: Pilot a Sequential Multiple Assignment Randomized Trial (SMART) to develop a time-varying dyadic self-management intervention that follows a stepped-care approach in providing different types of guidance to optimize the delivery of Coping-Together, a dyadic self-directed self-management intervention.

Methods: 48 patients with cancer and their caregivers were randomized in Stage 1 to: (a) Coping-Together (included a workbook and 6 booklets) or (b) Coping-Together + lay telephone guidance.

DPYD genotype should be extended to rare variants: report on two cases of phenotype / genotype discrepancy.

The enzyme dihydropyrimidine dehydrogenase (DPD) is the primary catabolic pathway of fluoropyrimidines including 5 fluorouracil (5FU) and capecitabine. Cases of lethal toxicity have been reported in cancer patients with complete DPD deficiency receiving standard dose of 5FU or capecitabine. DPD is encoded by the pharmacogene DPYD in which more than 200 variants have been identified.
