The enzyme dihydropyrimidine dehydrogenase (DPD) is the primary catabolic pathway of fluoropyrimidines including 5 fluorouracil (5FU) and capecitabine. Cases of lethal toxicity have been reported in cancer patients with complete DPD deficiency receiving standard dose of 5FU or capecitabine. DPD is encoded by the pharmacogene DPYD in which more than 200 variants have been identified.

Background: Stationary bikes are used in numerous rehabilitation settings, with most offering limited functionalities and types of training. Smart technologies, such as artificial intelligence and robotics, bring new possibilities to achieve rehabilitation goals. However, it is important that these technologies meet the needs of users in order to improve their adoption in current practice.

Facilitators' experiences with virtual simulation and their impact on learning.

Background: Increasingly, virtual simulations are being integrated into higher education. A successful experience goes far beyond simply offering learners access to a virtual simulation; it requires a facilitator who understands the learners' needs and course objectives, choses the right virtual simulation for the learner, creates a welcoming space that promotes learning, and evaluates the experience.

Methods: Facilitators from three different healthcare programs and six educational institutions and students from two different healthcare programs were included in this exploratory qualitative research study.

: Over the past two decades, the utilization of virtual care in rehabilitation has witnessed a significant surge; this is owing to the widespread availability of technological tools and the global impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. As a result, discussions surrounding the relevance and benefits of telerehabilitation have gained prominence among practitioners, who continually seek to enhance patient care while maintaining high standards of quality. Associated with these discussions are concerns over being able to provide care in an ethical way, as well as addressing equity issues that might be hindered or improved via telerehabilitation.

AI-based classification of anticancer drugs reveals nucleolar condensation as a predictor of immunogenicity.

Background: Immunogenic cell death (ICD) inducers are often identified in phenotypic screening campaigns by the release or surface exposure of various danger-associated molecular patterns (DAMPs) from malignant cells. This study aimed to streamline the identification of ICD inducers by leveraging cellular morphological correlates of ICD, specifically the condensation of nucleoli (CON).

Methods: We applied artificial intelligence (AI)-based imaging analyses to Cell Paint-stained cells exposed to drug libraries, identifying CON as a marker for ICD.

Background: Non-invasive photobiomodulation therapy (PBMT), employing specific infrared light wavelengths to stimulate biological tissues, has recently gained attention for its application to treat neurological disorders. Here, we aimed to uncover the cellular targets of PBMT and assess its potential as a therapeutic intervention for multiple sclerosis (MS).

Methods: We applied daily dorsoventral PBMT in an experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE) mouse model, which recapitulates key features of MS, and revealed a strong positive impact of PBMT on the sensorimotor deficits.

Colposcopic assessment following positive screening results is a noteworthy issue in Africa.

Introduction: The increase in the population of immunocompromised patients due to advances in management of end-stage diseases and transplants poses challenges in treating infections caused by multi-drug resistant (MDR) pathogens. Cefiderocol (FDC), a siderophore cephalosporin, has shown efficacy against carbapenem-resistant Gram-negative bacteria.

Methods: This retrospective multicentre study investigated the real-world use of FDC in 114 immunocompromised adults treated for MDR infections in 12 French hospitals (June 2020-November 2023).

Language barriers in emergency ambulance calls for cardiac arrest: Cases of missing vital information.

In medical emergencies, phoning the ambulance service constitutes a high-stakes interaction. Call-takers rely on callers to provide information about the patient so they can promptly recognise the medical problem and take swift action to remedy it. When a language barrier exists between the call-taker and caller, this can add a further challenge, given that third-party interpreters are rarely engaged, especially for time-critical conditions such as cardiac arrest.

The implementation of infant pain practice change resource to improve infant procedural pain practices: a hybrid type 1 effectiveness-implementation study.

Implementation of infant pain practice change (ImPaC) is a multifaceted web-based resource to support pain practice change in neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). We evaluated the (1) intervention effectiveness and (2) implementation effectiveness of ImPaC using a hybrid type 1 effectiveness-implementation study (ie, cluster randomized controlled trial and longitudinal descriptive study). Eligible level 2 and 3 Canadian NICUs were randomized to intervention (INT) or waitlisted to usual care (UC) for 6 months.

[The impact of cannabis on psychiatric symptoms: A cross-sectional study on people with severe mental disorder].

Objective Cannabis is the most commonly used drug in the general population, but its prevalence of use remains higher among people suffering from severe mental disorders. Nevertheless, current cannabis research showed it to be deleterious on psychiatric symptoms, especially among patients with severe mental disorders. This present cross-sectional study aims to evaluate the impact of cannabis consumption on the psychiatric symptomatology of people with a serious mental disorder by controlling for the confounding variables of age, sex and concomitant alcohol or stimulant consumption.

Obstacles, Self-Efficacy, and Strategies for Returning to Work after Experiencing Burnout: Paving the Path to Sustainable Reintegration.

Purpose: The objective of this study is twofold: (1) to better understand the Return-to-Work (RTW) process of employees on sick leave due to burnout by evaluating RTW obstacles and self-efficacy to overcome them, and (2) to investigate strategies implemented for maintaining employment following burnout.

Method: Fifty-one participants completed the online questionnaire titled "Return-to-Work Obstacles and Self-Efficacy Scale (ROSES)", and two focus groups were conducted with employees returning to work after experiencing burnout.

Results: All the ROSES dimensions emerged as potential obstacles to returning to work after burnout.
