Background: Considerable epidemiological studies have examined the correlation between polymorphic single-nucleotide variants (SNPs) in miRNA genes and colorectal carcinoma (CRC) risk, yielding inconsistent results. Herein, we sought to systematically investigate the association between miRNA-SNPs and CRC susceptibility by combined evaluation using pairwise and network meta-analysis, the FPRP analysis (false positive report probability), and the Thakkinstian's algorithm.
Methods: The MEDLINE, EMBASE, WOS, and Cochrane Library databases were searched through May 2024 to find relevant association literatures.

Background: V617F-mutated myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPN) exhibit abnormal proliferation of bone marrow progenitors and increased risk of thrombosis, specifically in splanchnic veins (SVT). The contribution of the endothelium to the development of the prothrombotic phenotype was explored.
Material And Methods: Plasma and serum samples from V617F MPN patients with (n=26) or without (n=7) thrombotic debut and different treatments, were obtained (n=33).

: High-volume online hemodiafiltration (OL-HDF) has proven to be the most efficient dialysis modality and to offer better clinical outcomes in patients on hemodialysis. Longer and more frequent dialysis sessions have demonstrated clinical and survival benefits. : A single-center observational study of the first one hundred patients on nocturnal every-other-day OL-HDF was conducted with the aim of reporting the experience with this treatment schedule and evaluating analytical and clinical outcomes as well as the patient and technique survival.

(1) Background: Alternative antibiotics are needed to treat infective endocarditis (IE) caused by non-/non- enterococci; we aimed to assess the in vitro activity of ampicillin plus ceftriaxone (AMP + CTR) against these enterococci and to describe its clinical efficacy in IE cases. (2) Methods: Time-kill curves with standard (ISI) and high (IHI) inocula were performed to test isolates [3 (ECAS) and 1 (EGALL)] and non- isolates [1 (EDUR), 1 (EHIR) and 1 (ERAF)]. The narrative literature review of IE cases treated with AMP + CTR was analyzed alongside three study cases.

: The clinical and laboratory features of patients with non-criteria obstetric antiphospholipid syndrome (NC-OAPS), as well as their pregnancy outcomes and ideal treatment are not clearly determined. The aim of this study is to describe the characteristics and outcomes of pregnancies in NC-OAPS and compare them with an obstetric APS (OAPS) cohort. : This is a retrospective study conducted on a cohort of women referred to a high-risk obstetric unit of a tertiary hospital.

Background: Preeclampsia (PE) is a pregnancy complication characterized by hypertension, proteinuria, endothelial dysfunction, and complement dysregulation. Placenta-derived extracellular vesicles (EVs), necessary in maternal-fetal communication, might contribute to PE pathogenesis. Moreover, neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs) play a pathogenic role in other complement-mediated pathologies, and their contribution in PE remains unexplored.

Schizophrenia is a complex multifactorial disorder and increasing evidence suggests the involvement of immune dysregulations in its pathogenesis. We observed that IKZF1 and IKZF2, classic immune-related transcription factors (TFs), were both downregulated in patients' peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) but not in their brain. We generated a new mutant mouse model with a reduction in Ikzf1 and Ikzf2 to study the impact of those changes.

Association between global platelet function and the risk of venous thromboembolic disease (VTE) has been proposed, though the mechanisms do not involve increased platelet aggregation. However, platelet adhesiveness has not been systematically explored in VTE patients. To evaluate platelet adhesive functions in VTE patients.

Background: Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) is associated with a significant percentage of germline pathogenic variants (GPVs). Unlike in the United States, routine universal genetic testing is not performed in Europe. The aim of the study is to evaluate the diagnostic yield of germline genetic testing in all patients with PDAC.

Background: Cardiovascular disease (CVD) remains the most common cause of mortality in chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients. Several studies suggest that the Mediterranean diet reduces the risk of CVD due to its influence on endothelial function, inflammation, lipid profile, and blood pressure. Integrating metabolomic and proteomic analyses of CKD could provide insights into the pathways involved in uremia-induced CVD and those pathways modifiable by the Mediterranean diet.

The use of noninvasive biomarkers may reduce the need for biopsy and guide immunosuppression adjustments during transplantation. The scientific community in solid organ transplantation currently considers that chemokines, T- and B-cell immunophenotypes, and gene expression, among other molecular biomarkers, have great potential as diagnostic and predictive biomarkers for graft evolution; however, in clinical practice, few valid early biomarkers have emerged. This review focuses on the most relevant scientific advances in this field in the last 5 years regarding the role of 3 biomarkers: miRNAs, chemokines, and ddcf-DNA, in both adult and pediatric populations.

Background: The management of nosocomial pneumonia represents a major challenge in the ICU. European guidelines from 2017 proposed an algorithm for the prescription of empirical antimicrobial treatment based on medical history, local ecology, and severity (ie, presence or absence of septic shock). We assessed this algorithm's usefulness by comparing outcomes with and without guideline adherence in a population at high risk of multiresistance and mortality.

Introduction: Immunotherapy has revolutionized cancer treatment, and Chimeric Antigen Receptor T cell therapy (CAR-T) is a groundbreaking approach. Traditional second-generation CAR-T therapies have achieved remarkable success in hematological malignancies, but there is still room for improvement, particularly in developing new targeting strategies. To address this limitation, engineering T cells with multi-target universal CARs (UniCARs) based on monomeric streptavidin has emerged as a versatile approach in the field of anti-tumor immunotherapy.

Background: Ultraviolet- C (UV-C) light is effective for reducing environmental bioburden in hospitals, and the use of robots to deliver it may be advantageous.
Aim: To evaluate the feasibility and clinical efficacy of an autonomous programmable UV-C robot in surgical and intensive care unit (ICU) rooms of a tertiary hospital.
Method: During ten consecutive months, the device was used in six theatres where cardiac, colorectal and orthopaedic surgeries were performed, and in the rooms previously occupied by patients subjected to contact precautions of a 14-bed ICU.

Soil-transmitted helminth (STH) infections account for a significant global health burden, necessitating mass drug administration with benzimidazole-class anthelmintics, such as albendazole (ALB), for morbidity control. However, ALB efficacy shows substantial variability, presenting challenges for achieving consistent treatment outcomes. We have explored the potential impact of the baseline gut microbiota on ALB efficacy in hookworm-infected individuals through microbiota profiling and machine learning (ML) techniques.

The human body represents the habitat of trillions of symbiotic microorganisms, collectively known as human microbiota, approximately half of which residing in the gut. The development of next-generation sequencing techniques has boosted the profiling of human microbiota in recent years. A growing body of evidence seems to support a strict relationship between the disruption of the mutualistic relationship between the microbiota and the host (i.

Primary fallopian tube carcinoma (PFTC) is seldom diagnosed preoperatively and is often mistaken for epithelial ovarian carcinoma (EOC). This report details a case of primary high-grade serous carcinoma (HGSC) of the fallopian tube, highlighting radiological and clinical indicators to aid in accurate diagnosis and avoid misdiagnosis. A 46-year-old premenopausal woman presented with symptoms and a transvaginal ultrasound (TVUS) indicating a malignant ovarian tumor.
