P53 is a transcription factor that controls a variety of genes, primarily involved in cell cycle and other processes related to cell survival and death. We have isolated peptides targeting P53 (protein and domains) using the "phage display" technique. Interestingly, adding ZnCl2 at 5-10 mM in panning solutions helped to recover more plaque-forming units at least at round one of the screening.

Lactic acid bacteria (LAB), particularly Lactobacilli strains, represent a widely studied and promising group of probiotics with numerous potential health benefits. In this study, we isolated LAB strains from fecal samples of healthy broiler chickens and characterized their probiotic properties. Out of 62 initial isolates, five strains were selected for further investigations based on their antibacterial activity against pathogenic bacteria.

Despite various plans to rationalize antibiotic use, antibiotic resistance in environmental bacteria is increasing due to the accumulation of antibiotic residues in the environment. This study aimed to test the ability of basidiomycete fungal strains to biotransform the antibiotic levofloxacin, a widely-used third-generation broad-spectrum fluoroquinolone, and to propose enzyme targets potentially involved in this biotransformation. The biotransformation process was performed using fungal strains.

This work describes a novel extracellular lipolytic carboxylester hydrolase named FAL, with lipase and phospholipase A1 (PLA1) activity, from a newly isolated filamentous fungus Ascomycota CBS strain, identified as Fusarium annulatum Bunigcourt. FAL was purified to about 62-fold using ammonium sulphate precipitation, Superdex® 200 Increase gel filtration and Q-Sepharose Fast Flow columns, with a total yield of 21%. The specific activity of FAL was found to be 3500 U/mg at pH 9 and 40°C and 5000 U/mg at pH 11 and 45°C, on emulsions of triocanoin and egg yolk phosphatidylcholine, respectively.

The effluents derived from the processing of table olives stand for a serious environmental problem. The study aims to valorize the brine water of table olives at different stages of ripening (green and black) of the Algerian variety Sigoise of Bejaia (East) and Mascara (West). The physico-chemical characterization revealed that these samples display have a high acid pH and salinity.

Peroxisomes play an important role in regulating cell metabolism and RedOx homeostasis. Peroxisomal dysfunctions favor oxidative stress and cell death. The ability of 7β-hydroxycholesterol (7β-OHC; 50 μM, 24 h), known to be increased in patients with age-related diseases such as sarcopenia, to trigger oxidative stress, mitochondrial and peroxisomal dysfunction was studied in murine C2C12 myoblasts.

In the dry and hot Mediterranean regions wheat is greatly susceptible to several abiotic stresses such as extreme temperatures, drought, and salinity, causing plant growth to decrease together with severe yield and quality losses. Thus, the identification of gene sequences involved in plant adaptation to such stresses is crucial for the optimization of molecular tools aimed at genetic selection and development of stress-tolerant varieties. Abscisic acid, stress, ripening-induced () genes act in the protection mechanism against high salinity and water deficit in several plant species.

Immobilization of enzymes has been extensively required in a wide variety of industrial applications as a way to ensure functionality and the potential of enzyme recycling after use. In particular, enzyme immobilization on magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs) could offer reusability by means of magnetic recovery and concentration, along with increased stability and robust activity of the enzyme under different physicochemical conditions. In the present work, microbial α-amylase (AmyKS) and xylanase (XAn11) were both immobilized on different types of MNPs [MamC-mediated biomimetic MNPs (BMNPs) and inorganic MNPs] by using two different strategies (electrostatic interaction and covalent bond).
