Background: Heart failure (HF) is associated with poor health status, and high morbi-mortality. However, it is not well established how health status changes correlate with treatment effects on clinical outcomes. Our aim was to study the association between treatment-induced changes in health-status, assessed by Kansas City Cardiomyopathy Questionnaire 23 (KCCQ-23), and clinical outcomes in chronic HF.

Background: Structural changes and myocardial fibrosis quantification by cardiac imaging have become increasingly important to predict cardiovascular events in patients with mitral valve prolapse (MVP). In this setting, it is likely that an unsupervised approach using machine learning may improve their risk assessment.
Objectives: This study used machine learning to improve the risk assessment of patients with MVP by identifying echocardiographic phenotypes and their respective association with myocardial fibrosis and prognosis.

Background: We sought to identify protein biomarkers of new-onset heart failure (HF) in 3 independent cohorts (HOMAGE cohort [Heart Omics and Ageing], ARIC study [Atherosclerosis Risk in Communities], and FHS [Framingham Heart Study]) and assess if and to what extent they improve HF risk prediction compared to clinical risk factors alone.
Methods: A nested case-control design was used with cases (incident HF) and controls (without HF) matched on age and sex within each cohort. Plasma concentrations of 276 proteins were measured at baseline in ARIC (250 cases/250 controls), FHS (191/191), and HOMAGE cohort (562/871).

Background: Pulse wave velocity (PWV) is a marker of arterial stiffness, which is intrinsically highly correlated with blood pressure (BP). However, the interplay of PWV and BP heritability has not been extensively studied. This study aimed to estimate the heritability of PWV and BP and determine the genetic correlation between PWV and BP.

Background: Empagliflozin reduces the risk of major heart failure outcomes in heart failure with reduced or preserved ejection fraction.
Objectives: The goal of this study was to evaluate the effect of empagliflozin across the spectrum of chronic kidney disease in a pooled analysis of EMPEROR-Reduced and EMPEROR-Preserved (Empagliflozin Outcome Trial in Patients with Chronic Heart Failure with Reduced or Preserved Ejection Fraction, respectively).
Methods: A total of 9,718 patients were grouped into Kidney Disease Improving Global Outcomes (KDIGO) categories based on estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) and urine albumin-to-creatinine ratio into low-, moderate-, high-, and very-high-risk categories, comprising 32.

Background And Aims: Data exploring normal values of different ventricular-arterial coupling (VAC) parameters and their association with anthropometric and cardiovascular (CV) factors are scarce. We aim to report values of two different methods of VAC assessment according to age and sex and explore their association with CV factors within a large population-based cohort of middle-aged individuals.
Methods: For 1333 (mean age 48 ± 14) individuals participating in the 4th visit of the STANISLAS cohort, VAC was assessed by two methods [1]: arterial elastance (E)/end-systolic elastance (E) and [2] Pulse wave velocity (PWV)/Global longitudinal strain (GLS).

We previously analyzed trends in incidence and factors associated with lethal complications in ALL/AML/CML patients (causes of deaths; COD-1 study). The objective of this study was the analysis of incidence and specific causes of death after HCT, with focus on infectious deaths in two time periods, 1980-2001 (cohort-1) and 2002-2015 (cohort-2). All patients with HCT for lymphoma, plasma cell disorders, chronic leukemia (except CML), myelodysplastic/myeloproliferative disorders, registered in the EBMT-ProMISe-database were included (n = 232,618) (COD-2 study).

Implantable cardiac monitors (ICMs) have found increasing use in clinical practice over the years, proving, when used in high-risk populations, to facilitate the diagnosis of bradyarrhythmias and tachyarrhythmias requiring treatment. Experience with heart failure patients undergoing pacemaker (PMK) or implantable defibrillator (ICD) implantation, which allow for continuous electrocardiographic monitoring and transthoracic impedance assessment, has made it possible to identify predictors of heart failure flare-ups. In this context, the use of telemonitoring has been shown to ensure better management of patients with heart failure.

Patients with clinically established atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease are at a very high risk of recurrent cardiovascular events. An adequate management of risk factors and the implementation of healthy behaviours significantly decrease the risk of unfavourable clinical outcomes and future cardiovascular events, including death. Patients discharged after an acute coronary syndrome should be managed according to their individual risk level in order to ensure the appropriate treatment.

BACKGROUND Cardiovascular (CV) mortality remains high despite the improvement of kidney function after kidney transplantation. In heart failure (HF), high concentrations of biomarkers of fibrosis, related to cardiac and/or vascular impairment, are associated with CV outcomes, but their significance in kidney transplantation is still unclear. Our aim was to investigate the association of procollagen type I C-terminal pro-peptide (PICP) and galectin-3 (Gal-3), markers of fibrosis, with arterial stiffness measured by pulse wave velocity (PWV) and CV morbi-mortality in kidney transplantation recipients from the prospective monocenter TRANSARTE study (Transplantation and Arteries), which compared the evolution of arterial stiffness in transplanted patients and patients remained on dialysis.

Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a complex syndrome and a relevant problem of public health due to its large incidence and prevalence and to the high costs for its management. The hallmark of CKD, the progressive reduction in the glomerular filtration rate (eGFR), is strongly associated with an increase in cardiovascular events, such as fatal and non-fatal heart attack, stroke and heart failure, and mortality. Therefore, clinicians should pay any effort for preventing or slowing down the decline of renal function in order to reduce not only the occurrence of critical renal events (the need for dialysis or renal transplantation, among the most dreadful) but also the incidence of cardiovascular events.

Background: Chronic kidney disease leads to cardiac remodelling of multifactorial origin known as "uraemic cardiomyopathy", the reversibility of which after kidney transplantation (KT) remains controversial. Our objectives were to assess, in the modern era, changes in echocardiographic parameters following KT and identify predictive clinical and biological factors associated with echocardiographic changes.
Methods: One hundred six patients (mean age 48 ± 16, 73% male) who underwent KT at the University Hospital of Nancy between 2007 and 2018 were retrospectively investigated.

Aims: Atrial fibrillation/flutter (AF) is common in heart failure (HF) with preserved left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) and associated with worse outcomes. Empagliflozin reduces cardiovascular death or HF hospitalizations and slows estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) decline in patients with HF and LVEF >40%. We aimed to assess the efficacy and safety of empagliflozin in improving outcomes in patients with HF and LVEF >40% with and without AF.
