Since the pionneer work of Meerwaldt and the Groningen team, who related skin autofluorescence (SAF) to the dermal concentrations of advanced glycation end-products (AGEs), hundreds of articles have been devoted to its application in diabetes. Due to the slow turnover of the AGEs formed on collagen of the skin, the SAF can reflect the progressive accumulation of AGEs and hence be a marker of long-term glucose exposure. Accordingly, relations with HbA1c from the previous 3-10 years have been established in both type 1 and type 2 diabetes, and even in gestational diabetes mellitus.

Purpose: Keratoconus is a progressive, asymmetrical corneal ectasia with multifactorial origin. Three identified risk factors for keratoconus include exposure to ultraviolet (UV) rays, eye rubbing, and atopy. Other factors like pollution would play a role in the physiopathology of keratoconus.

Purpose: Safety and efficacy of SENS-401, a serotonin type 3 (5-HT) receptor antagonist and calcineurin inhibitor, in patients with acute sudden sensorineural hearing loss (SSNHL).
Methods: Multicentre randomized, double blind, placebo-controlled trial enrolled adult subjects with sudden sensorineural hearing loss (SSNHL) or unilateral/bilateral acute acoustic trauma leading to SSNHL within 96 h of disease onset. Subjects were randomly assigned to one of the three oral dose groups: 29 mg, 43.

Juggling is a very complex activity requiring motor, visual and coordination skills. Expert jugglers experience a "third eye" monitoring leftward and rightward ball zenith positions alternately, in the upper visual fields, while maintaining their gaze straight-ahead. This "third eye" reduces their motor noise (improved body stability and decrease in hand movement variability) as it avoids the numerous head and eye movements that add noise into the system and make trajectories more uncertain.

Importance: Children with profound hearing loss (HL) and vestibular impairment have worse cochlear implant outcomes compared with those without vestibular impairment. However, the decision for cochlear implantation is rarely based on vestibular function assessment as a complement to audiologic testing.
Objectives: To identify the prevalence of vestibular impairment according to HL origin and to assess the association between vestibular impairment and delayed posturomotor development in children with profound HL.

The aim of this study is to evaluate the efficacy of taking a daily supplement based on active compounds (AUDISTIM Day Night: A D/N) in alleviating tinnitus-related disability, as suggested by previous real-life studies. This double-blind randomized placebo-controlled study was conducted in adults with mild to severe tinnitus receiving a 3-month supplementation with A D/N (magnesium, vitamins, phytochemicals) or placebo (excipients without active ingredients). Tinnitus-related handicap (THI), psychological stress (MSP-9), and sleep quality (PSQI) were assessed at baseline and during intervention, perceived impression of tinnitus improvement at the end of the follow-up.

Corneal deformations caused by keratoconus produce high levels of optical aberration (OA). Despite appropriate optical correction, these alter the quality of vision and diminish the patient's quality of life, especially since the affected population is predominantly young and of working age. When thinning is too severe or corneal transparency too impaired, a corneal transplant may be considered.

The increasing number of MRI studies focused on prodromal Parkinson's Disease (PD) demonstrates a strong interest in identifying early biomarkers capable of monitoring neurodegeneration. In this systematic review, we present the latest information regarding the most promising MRI markers of neurodegeneration in relation to the most specific prodromal symptoms of PD, namely isolated rapid eye movement (REM) sleep behavior disorder (iRBD). We reviewed structural, diffusion, functional, iron-sensitive, neuro-melanin-sensitive MRI, and proton magnetic resonance spectroscopy studies conducted between 2000 and 2023, which yielded a total of 77 relevant papers.

Objective: To compare the amplitude ratio and P-wave latency of cervical vestibular evoked myogenic potentials (c-VEMPs) for bone conduction (BC) and air conduction (AC) stimulation in children with otitis media with effusion (OME).
Material And Methods: This is an observational study of a cohort of 27 children and 46 ears with OME. The c-VEMP amplitude ratio and P-wave latency were compared between BC and AC in children with OME and healthy age-matched children.

Purpose: Patients with large uveal melanomas are at major risk of liver metastases. Some patients are reluctant to undergo the standard treatment (ie, immediate enucleation). Proton therapy yields 5-year local control rates and eyeball retention of >85% and ≈20% in large uveal melanomas.

Objectives: To characterize cervical vestibular evoked myogenic potentials (c-VEMPs) in bone conduction (BC) and air conduction (AC) in healthy children, to compare the responses to adults and to provide normative values according to age and sex.
Design: Observational study in a large cohort of healthy children ( = 118) and adults ( = 41). The c-VEMPs were normalized with the individual EMG traces, the amplitude ratios were modeled with the Royston-Wright method.

Background: Recent advanced in radiomics analysis could help to identify breast cancer among benign mammary masses. The aim was to create a radiomics signature using breast DCE-MRI extracted features to classify tumors and to compare the performances with the BI-RADS classification.
Material And Methods: From September 2017 to December 2019 images, exams and records from consecutive patients with mammary masses on breast DCE-MRI and available histology from one center were retrospectively reviewed (79 patients, 97 masses).

The eye is an exemplarily challenging organ to treat when considering ocular tumors. It is at the crossroads of several major aims in oncology: tumor control, organ preservation, and functional outcomes including vision and quality of life. The proximity between the tumor and organs that are susceptible to radiation damage explain these challenges.

The Wnt/frizzled signaling pathway is one of the major regulators of endothelial biology, controlling key cellular activities. Many secreted Wnt ligands have been identified and can initiate diverse signaling via binding to a complex set of Frizzled (Fzd) transmembrane receptors and coreceptors. Roughly, Wnt signaling is subdivided into two pathways: the canonical Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway whose main downstream effector is the transcriptional coactivator β-catenin, and the noncanonical Wnt signaling pathway, which is subdivided into the Wnt/Ca pathway and the planar cell polarity pathway.

Hypothalamus (HT), this small structure often perceived through the prism of neuroimaging as morphologically and functionally homogeneous, plays a key role in the primitive act of feeding. The current paper aims at reviewing the contribution of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in the study of the role of the HT in food intake regulation. It focuses on the different MRI techniques that have been used to describe structurally and functionally the Human HT.

Atrial fibrillation is the most common cause of arrhythmia which is responsible for over 15% of ischemic strokes, most of these being secondary to migration of a left atrial appendage (LAA) thrombus. In patient with contraindication to anticoagulant therapy, percutaneous closure system placement may be indicated. Cardiac computed tomography (CT) angiography plays a central role in the initial assessment as well as in the follow-up.
