Objective: The molecular diagnosis of extreme forms of obesity, in which accurate detection of both copy number variations (CNVs) and point mutations, is crucial for an optimal care of the patients and genetic counseling for their families. Whole-exome sequencing (WES) has benefited considerably this molecular diagnosis, but its poor ability to detect CNVs remains a major limitation. We aimed to develop a method (CoDE-seq) enabling the accurate detection of both CNVs and point mutations in one step.

Electronic address:

The LANDS score was previously found to be able to assess the probability of left ventricular (LV) remodeling. We sought to evaluate this score in terms of clinical outcomes: 275 patients with heart failure, from 2 centers, implanted with a cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT) device were followed at least 2 years after implantation. Baseline clinical, electrocardiographic, and echocardiographic characteristics including left bundle branch block, age >70 years, nonischemic etiology, LV end-diastolic diameter <40 mm/m, and septal flash by echocardiography were integrated in 4 scoring systems.

Background: We have been intrigued by the observation that aortic stenosis (AS) may be associated with characteristic features of mitral drug-induced valvular heart disease (DI-VHD) in patients exposed to valvulopathic drugs, thus suggesting that beyond restrictive heart valve regurgitation, valvulopathic drugs may be involved in the pathogenesis of AS.

Methods: Herein are reported echocardiographic features, and pathological findings encountered in a series of patients suffering from both AS (mean gradient >15mmHg) and mitral DI-VHD after valvulopathic drugs exposure. History of rheumatic fever, chest radiation therapy, systemic disease or bicuspid aortic valve disease were exclusion criteria.

GCS-Groupement des hôpitaux de l'institut Catholique de Lille/Faculté Libre de Médecine, Département de Cardiologie, Université Catholique de Lille, Lille, France; INSERM U 1088, Université de Picardie, Amiens, France. Electronic address:

Article Synopsis
  • Some heart failure patients experience a widening in their heart's electrical signals (QRS widening) right after a treatment called cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT).
  • A study with 237 patients found that those who had QRS widening were more likely to die during the follow-up period compared to those who did not.
  • This suggests that if doctors could reduce QRS widening after CRT, it might help more patients respond better to the treatment and live longer.

Electronic address:

The present prospective study was designed to evaluate the accuracy of quantitative assessment of mitral regurgitant fraction (MRF) by echocardiography and cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (cMRI) in the modern era using as reference method the blinded multiparametric integrative assessment of mitral regurgitation (MR) severity. 2-Dimensional (2D) and 3-dimensional (3D) MRF by echocardiography (2D echo MRF and 3D echo MRF) were obtained by measuring the difference in left ventricular (LV) total stroke volume (obtained from either 2D or 3D acquisition) and aortic forward stroke volume normalized to LV total stroke volume. MRF was calculated by cMRI using either (1) (LV stroke volume - systolic aortic outflow volume by phase contrast)/LV stroke volume (cMRI MRF [volumetric]) or (2) (mitral inflow volume - systolic aortic outflow volume)/mitral inflow volume (cMRI MRF [phase contrast]).
