In this study, we sought to analyze the safety of CIAC in a cohort of patients treated at the Centre intégré universitaire de santé et de services sociaux de l'Estrie-Centre hospitalier universitaire de Sherbrooke (CIUSSS-CHUS). : Treatments consisted of monthly CIAC.

Background: Telehomecare monitoring (TM) in patients with cancer is a complex intervention. Research shows variations in the benefits and challenges TM brings to equitable access to care, the therapeutic relationship, self-management, and practice transformation. Further investigation into these variations factors will improve implementation processes and produce effective outcomes.

Bridging Needs and Expectations of Individuals With Physical Disabilities and Community Services Stakeholders for the Cocreation of an Adapted Physical Activity Platform in Virtual Reality: Qualitative Study.

Background: Physical activity supports the health and well-being of individuals with physical disabilities. Despite the significance of engaging in physical activity, barriers faced by individuals with disabilities, such as limited access to adapted facilities and lack of transportation, can restrict their participation. Community organizations play a role in addressing these challenges, but virtual reality (VR) also offers a way to diversify adapted activities.

Chromatin regulatory proteins are expressed broadly and assumed to exert the same intrinsic function across cell types. Here, we report that 14 chromatin regulators undergo evolutionary-conserved neuron-specific splicing events involving microexons. Among them are two components of a histone demethylase complex: LSD1 H3K4 demethylase and the H3K4me0-reader PHF21A.

What has brain diffusion magnetic resonance imaging taught us about chronic primary pain: a narrative review.

Chronic pain is a pervasive and debilitating condition with increasing implications for public health, affecting millions of individuals worldwide. Despite its high prevalence, the underlying neural mechanisms and pathophysiology remain only partly understood. Since its introduction 35 years ago, brain diffusion magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has emerged as a powerful tool to investigate changes in white matter microstructure and connectivity associated with chronic pain.

Descriptive analysis of durvalumab use in unresectable stage III non-small cell lung cancer in patients treated in Quebec's University teaching hospitals.

Introduction: Consolidation durvalumab post chemo-radiotherapy (CRT) has been demonstrated to improve survival in locally advanced non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Real-world data to assess its use and impact on patients, particularly in Quebec, remain limited.

Methods: We, therefore, aimed to assess real-world durvalumab use in inoperable stage III NSCLC in Quebec, to describe progression-free survival (PFS) and overall survival (OS) outcomes as reported in the PACIFIC trial, and to evaluate safety and toxicity.

People living with chronic pain in Canada face difficult decisions and decisional conflict concerning their care: data from the national DECIDE-PAIN survey.

Background: Shared decision-making is an imperative in chronic pain care. However, we know little about the decision-making process, especially in primary care where most chronic pain care is provided. We sought to understand decisional needs of people living with chronic pain in Canada.

Improving Gout Care in a Canadian Academic Medical Center Through a Multidisciplinary Nurse-Led Protocol.

Objective: Following Health Canada's knowledge translation framework, we report the results of a clinical audit from 2012 to 2015 followed by a multidisciplinary, nurse-led gout care protocol with a treat-to-target (T2T) strategy implemented in April 2018.

Methods: A clinical audit with chart reviewing was completed for adults with gout and urate-lowering therapy (ULT) indication at the Centre Hospitalier Universitaire de Sherbrooke. A nurse-led treatment algorithm using allopurinol was then developed.

[Using metaphor and art to talk about death with occupational therapy students].

Addressing the topic of death is essential to empower healthcare professionals to work with people, but there is a lack of training in this area. This study presents the perceptions of students and educators regarding the use of metaphor and artistic creation to explore values, prejudices, emotions, and experiential knowledge related to death. The pedagogical innovation allowed students to reflect on and express their perceptions of death, while also experiencing a listening posture, thereby contributing to the development of communication skills, among others.

Continuous transcranial ultrasound in large vessel stroke: Image guidance for high-intensity focused sonothrombolysis.

Background And Purpose: Sonothrombolysis is a potential adjunctive therapy for large vessel occlusion (LVO) stroke. Bedside ultrasound image-guided high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) therapy could deliver higher energy therapeutic ultrasound to the thrombus with higher precision than what was previously accomplished in human trials. The aim is to test the feasibility of diagnostic transcranial contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) to image the occlusion site and continuously maintain the guidance image on-target for a sufficient exposure time for HIFU to be effective during LVO stroke evaluation and treatment.

The Cognitive Theory of Multimedia Learning (CTML) suggests humans learn through visual and auditory sensory channels. Haptics represent a third channel within CTML and a missing component for experiential learning. The objective was to measure visual and haptic behaviors during spatial tasks.

Incidence of serious infection among etanercept and infliximab initiators: safety comparison between biosimilars and bio-originators with Canadian population-based data.

Background: Safety remains a significant concern for biologic drugs, and studies are needed to ensure a comparable safety profile for biosimilars and their legacy treatments. Using Canadian administrative health data from 2015-2019, we compared the incidence of serious infection between biosimilars and bio-originators initiators for etanercept and infliximab, two of the most commonly used biologics during this time.

Methods: We performed a retrospective cohort study using pan-Canadian data (except Quebec) from the National Prescription Drug Utilization Information System linked to hospitalization data.

Intrapatient Intermetastatic Heterogeneity Determined by Triple-Tracer PET Imaging in mCRPC Patients and Correlation to Survival: The 3TMPO Cohort Study.

Intrapatient intermetastatic heterogeneity (IIH) has been demonstrated in metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer (mCRPC) patients and is of the utmost importance for radiopharmaceutical therapy (RPT) eligibility. This study was designed to determine the prevalence of IIH and RPT eligibility in mCRPC patients through a triple-tracer PET imaging strategy. This was a multisite prospective observational study in which mCRPC patients underwent both F-FDG and Ga-prostate-specific membrane antigen (PSMA)-617 PET/CT scans.

Xenophilus aerolatus isolate misidentified as Brucella spp. by MALDI-TOF MS (VITEK-MS) system.

We report the characterization of Xenophilus aerolatus strain identified from a screening rectal swab specimen in human, initially misidentified as Brucella spp. by MALDI-TOF MS (VITEK-MS system). The strain is able to growth on Colorex mSuperCARBA plate, suggesting carbapenem resistance.

Changes at Presentation in Patients With Early Rheumatoid Arthritis: A 24-Year Study of the Early Undifferentiated Polyarthritis (EUPA) Cohort.

Objective: To analyze changes in baseline characteristics of patients with very early rheumatoid arthritis (RA) over 24 years in the Early Undifferentiated Polyarthritis (EUPA) cohort.

Methods: Consecutive patients with recent-onset polyarthritis fulfilling RA classification criteria recruited in EUPA were assessed at baseline. Three successive periods were defined: (1) prior to the general availability of biologics (1998-2004; 245 patients), (2) prior to the implantation of the 2010 classification criteria (2005-2010; 266 patients), and (3) the most recent decade (2011-2022; 329 patients).

Background: The automatic detection of activities of daily living (ADL) is necessary to improve long-term home-based monitoring of Parkinson's disease (PD) symptoms. While most body-worn sensor algorithms for ADL detection were developed using laboratory research systems covering full-body kinematics, it is now crucial to achieve ADL detection using a single body-worn sensor that remains commercially available and affordable for ecological use.

Five-year effects of cognitive training in individuals with mild cognitive impairment.

Introduction: In a 5-year follow-up study, we investigated the enduring effects of cognitive training on older adults with mild cognitive impairment (MCI).

Methods: A randomized controlled single-blind trial involved 145 older adults with MCI, assigned to cognitive training (MEMO+), an active control psychosocial intervention, or a no-contact condition. Five-year effects were measured on immediate and delayed memory recall, the Montreal Cognitive Assessment screening test (MoCA), self-reported strategy use, and daily living difficulties.

Anatomical measurements and field modeling to assess transcranial magnetic stimulation motor and non-motor effects.

Objective: Explore how anatomical measurements and field modeling can be leveraged to improve investigations of transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) effects on both motor and non-motor TMS targets.

Methods: TMS motor effects (targeting the primary motor cortex [M1]) were evaluated using the resting motor threshold (rMT), while TMS non-motor effects (targeting the superior temporal gyrus [STG]) were assessed using a pain memory task. Anatomical measurements included scalp-cortex distance (SCD) and cortical thickness (CT), whereas field modeling encompassed the magnitude of the electric field (E) induced by TMS.
