Background: Avoidant restrictive food intake disorder (ARFID) is a feeding and eating disorder characterized by extremely restricted dietary variety and/or quantity resulting in serious consequences for physical health and psychosocial functioning. ARFID often co-occurs with neurodevelopmental conditions (NDCs) and psychiatric conditions, but previous data are mostly limited to small clinical samples examining a narrow range of conditions. Here, we examined NDCs and psychiatric conditions in a large, population-based group of children with ARFID.

Recent advancements in diagnosis and treatment have significantly improved the management and care of brain tumors. This chapter provides an overview of the common types of primary brain tumors affecting language functions-gliomas and meningiomas.

Asymmetries in the human brain.

The human brain is an intricate network of cortical regions interconnected by white matter pathways, dynamically supporting cognitive functions. While cortical asymmetries have been consistently reported, the asymmetry of white matter connections remains less explored. This chapter provides a brief overview of asymmetries observed at the cortical, subcortical, cytoarchitectural, and receptor levels before exploring the detailed connectional anatomy of the human brain.

A peer-led group intervention based on relaxation (soRELAX) to improve well-being and mental health in nursing students: A mixed method pilot study.

Background: The well-being of nursing students is strongly affected by their mental health.

In particular, the widespread presence of anxiety symptoms and somatic pain has become a major factor affecting both the quality of care and the career development of healthcare workers. This study aims to investigate the mediating and moderating roles of psychological resilience and sleep in the relationship between somatic pain and anxiety among healthcare workers.

Patterns and indications for quetiapine prescribing in Dutch primary care.

Background: Quetiapine, an antipsychotic, is registered for schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and as an add-on therapy for major depressive disorder. Its anxiolytic and sedative effects make it attractive for off-label uses like insomnia, despite cardiovascular and metabolic side effects. The global increase in quetiapine use over the past decade warrants an examination of its prescribing patterns, especially off-label.

Internal structure, reliability and cross-cultural validity of the Warwick-Edinburgh Mental Wellbeing Scale in three European populations.

Background: The Warwick-Edinburgh Mental Wellbeing Scale (WEMWBS), a questionnaire designed for the assessment of mental well-being, is widely used in different countries and cultures worldwide. However, there is a lack of studies examining its metric performance and measurement invariance across countries.

Objective: This study aims to examine the internal structure, reliability and cross-country validity of the WEMWBS in three European populations.

Examining the role of novelty detection in 20- and 40-Hz auditory steady-state responses.

An auditory steady-state response (ASSR) is an electrophysiological response to periodic stimuli that reflects the synchronization of endogenous oscillations. The 40-Hz ASSR is reduced in patients with schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and autism spectrum disorder, making it a candidate biomarker for these psychiatric disorders. Previous studies have revealed that experimental conditions such as stimulus duration and inter-stimulus interval tend to affect ASSR, suggesting that novelty detection may play an important role in determining the magnitude of ASSR.

PICK1 links KIBRA and AMPA receptor subunit GluA2 in coiled-coil-driven supramolecular complexes.

The human memory-associated protein KIBRA regulates synaptic plasticity and trafficking of AMPA-type glutamate receptors, and is implicated in multiple neuropsychiatric and cognitive disorders. How KIBRA forms complexes with and regulates AMPA receptors remains unclear. Here, we show that KIBRA does not interact directly with the AMPA receptor subunit GluA2, but that PICK1, a key regulator of AMPA receptor trafficking, can serve as a bridge between KIBRA and GluA2.

Immune-developmental processes contribute to schizophrenia risk: insights from a genetic overlap study with height.

Background: Shorter stature has been phenotypically linked to increased prevalence of schizophrenia (SCZ), but the nature of this association is unknown.

Methods: Using genome-wide genetic data, we studied the SCZ-height relationship on a genetic level. Applying novel genetic methods and tools, we analyzed gene-sets, tissue-types, cell-types, local genetic correlation, conditional genetic analyses, and fine-mapping of effector-genes to scrutinize the SCZ-height relationship.

Mental Health After Childbirth in Women with Previous Bariatric Surgery: The SPOtMom Pilot Study.

Currently, no data are available using standardized instruments for evaluating the postpartum mental health of women with previous bariatric surgery. The aim of this pilot study was to assess postpartum mental health in women following bariatric surgery and to establish appropriate tools for a prospective registry study in the future. In this survey, the mental health of 22 women during the first weeks postpartum was examined (T1) and their status at least 6 months after childbirth was prospectively assessed (T2).

Buprenorphine-naloxone versus buprenorphine for opioid use disorder during pregnancy: A systematic review and meta-analysis.

Background: The standard of care for treating opioid use disorder (OUD) during pregnancy includes either buprenorphine or methadone. Although buprenorphine-naloxone presents an alternative due to the reduced risk of misuse , evidence regarding its impact on pregnancy and infant health remains limited. This systematic review and meta-analysis aims to compare buprenorphine-naloxone vs buprenorphine alone for OUD during pregnancy, assessing gestational and neonatal outcomes.

Generative artificial intelligence (AI) chatbots such as ChatGPT have rapidly gained popularity in many daily life spheres, even sparking scholarly debate about a potential "ChatGPT addiction." Throughout history, new technologies have repeatedly been associated with widespread concerns and "moral panics," especially when their adoption is sudden and involves significant changes in daily functioning. It is thus no surprise that researchers have examined whether intensive use of ChatGPT can be considered an addictive behavior.

Research has reported group-level differences in cortical grey/white matter contrast (GWC) in individuals with psychotic disorders. However, no studies to date have explored GWC in individuals at elevated risk for psychosis. In this study, we examined brain microstructure differences between young adults with psychotic-like experiences or a high genetic risk for psychosis and unaffected individuals.

Unveiling distinct representations of P3a in schizophrenia through two-stimulus and three-stimulus auditory oddball paradigms.

Background: P3a event-related potential (ERP) is considered a potential biomarker for schizophrenia (SZ), can be elicited through both passive two-stimulus and active three-stimulus auditory oddball paradigms. While both types of P3a reflect involuntary attention shifts, the nuanced understanding of what P3a represents in different contexts is important and rarely studied. This study aims to examine correlations between P3a ERPs elicited from different paradigms and associations of each P3a with cognitive function, clinical symptoms, and antipsychotic medication.

Efficacy of digital therapeutic applications for cognitive training among older adults with mild cognitive impairment or dementia: A systematic review and network meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials.

However, the efficacy of these DTx approaches may be diverse. This study aims to meta-synthesize the associations between mobile applications and cognitive functioning outcomes in older adults with mild cognitive impairment (MCI) or dementia from randomized controlled trials (RCTs).

Disgust sensitivity in the first trimester predicts anxiety levels in advanced pregnancy.

Problem: Disgust contributes to anxiety-based psychopathology, and in turn, anxiety increases disgust proneness.

Background: Disgust and anxiety undergo significant changes in pregnancy, but no previous study has examined their longitudinal associations in this time period.

Aim: This prospective longitudinal study aimed to identify longitudinal associations between disgust sensitivity and state anxiety across the three trimesters of pregnancy, while exploring the directionality of the effect between those two variables.
