The IKAROS family of transcription factors comprises four zinc-finger proteins (IKAROS, HELIOS, AIOLOS, and EOS), which over the last decades have been established to be critical regulators of the development and function of lymphoid cells. Their function often involves cross-talk with other regulatory circuits, such as the JAK/STAT, NF-κB, and NOTCH pathways.

We report primordial aqueous alteration signatures in water-soluble organic molecules from the carbonaceous asteroid (162173) Ryugu by the Hayabusa2 spacecraft of JAXA. Newly identified low-molecular-weight hydroxy acids (HO-R-COOH) and dicarboxylic acids (HOOC-R-COOH), such as glycolic acid, lactic acid, glyceric acid, oxalic acid, and succinic acid, are predominant in samples from the two touchdown locations at Ryugu. The quantitative and qualitative profiles for the hydrophilic molecules between the two sampling locations shows similar trends within the order of ppb (parts per billion) to ppm (parts per million).

Over the past 15 years, hundreds of previously undiscovered bacterial small open reading frame (sORF)-encoded polypeptides (SEPs) of fewer than fifty amino acids have been identified, and biological functions have been ascribed to an increasing number of SEPs from intergenic regions and small RNAs. However, despite numbering in the dozens in , and hundreds to thousands in humans, same-strand nested sORFs that overlap protein coding genes in alternative reading frames remain understudied. Methods: From 2014 to 2017, in three peripheral care units of Bassar Health District (Binaparba, Nangbani, and Baghan), community health workers visited residents' homes weekly to identify patients with malaria symptoms, perform rapid diagnostic tests in symptomatic patients, and give medication to positive cases.

Septins are filamentous nucleotide-binding proteins which can associate with membranes in a curvature-dependent manner leading to structural remodelling and barrier formation. Despite their global prevalence, the mechanisms for mood disorders like bipolar disorder and major depressive disorder remain largely misunderstood. We show here that in the fungus Sordaria macrospora, the meiosis-specific HORMA-domain protein Hop1 is not essential for the basic early events of chromosome axis development, recombination initiation, or recombination-mediated homolog coalignment/pairing. In striking contrast, Hop1 plays a critical role at the leptotene/zygotene transition which is defined by transition from pairing to synaptonemal complex (SC) formation. During this transition, Hop1 is required for maintenance of normal axis structure, formation of SC from telomere to telomere, and development of recombination foci.

Classic findings of impaired allocentric spatial learning and memory following hippocampal lesions indicate that the hippocampus supports cognitive maps of one's environment. Many studies assess navigation in vista space virtual reality environments and compare hippocampal-lesioned individuals' performance to that of small control samples, potentially stifling detection of preserved and impaired performance. Using the mobile app we examined navigation in diverse complex environments in two individuals with hippocampal lesions relative to demographically matched controls ( = 17,734).

Metacognitive biases have been repeatedly associated with transdiagnostic psychiatric dimensions of 'anxious-depression' and 'compulsivity and intrusive thought', cross-sectionally. To progress our understanding of the underlying neurocognitive mechanisms, new methods are required to measure metacognition remotely, within individuals over time. We developed a gamified smartphone task designed to measure visuo-perceptual metacognitive (confidence) bias and investigated its psychometric properties across two studies (N = 3410 unpaid citizen scientists, N = 52 paid participants).

Background: Periventricular white matter hyperintensities (PVWMHs) in cerebral amyloid angiopathy (CAA) have been reported posterior predominant using semiautomated segmentation method and logarithmic transformation. We aimed to compare PVWMH extent and posterior/anterior distribution between patients with CAA and patients with hypertensive arteriopathy with radiological tools available in daily practice.

Methods: We retrospectively analyzed confluent PVWMH directly adjacent to lateral ventricles on axial FLAIR (fluid-attenuated inversion recovery) from 108 patients with CAA and 99 patients with hypertensive arteriopathy presenting with hemorrhage-related symptoms consecutively recruited in our stroke database (Nîmes University Hospital, France) between January 2015 and March 2022.
