Depressive disorders are characterized by disturbances in light signal processing. More specifically, an alteration of the melanopsin response is suggested. The post-illumination pupillary response (PIPR) to blue light (post-blue PIPR) is increasingly used as a marker of the activity of intrinsically photosensitive melanopsin ganglion cells (ipRGCs).

Huntington's disease (HD) is a rare genetic neurodegenerative disorder caused by an expansion of CAG repeats in the Huntingtin (HTT) gene. One hypothesis suggests that the mutant HTT gene contributes to HD neuropathology through transcriptional dysregulation involving microRNAs (miRNAs). In particular, the miR-132/212 cluster is strongly diminished in the HD brain.

Hypersomnia spectrum disorders are underdiagnosed and poorly treated due to their heterogeneity and absence of biomarkers. The electroretinography has been proposed as a proxy of central dysfunction and has proved to be valuable to differentiate certain psychiatric disorders. Hypersomnolence is a shared core feature in central hypersomnia and psychiatric disorders.

Background: Electronic consultation (eConsult) is an eHealth service that allows primary care providers (PCPs) to electronically consult specialists regarding their patients' medical issues. Many studies have demonstrated that eConsult services improve timely access to specialist care; prevent unnecessary referrals; improve PCPs', specialists', and patients' satisfaction; and therefore have a large impact on costs. However, no studies have evaluated PCPs' and specialists' acceptance of eConsult services in Quebec, Canada, and worldwide.

Introduction: Light's non-visual effects on the biological clock, cognitive performance, alertness, and mental health are getting more recognized. These are primarily driven by blue light, which triggers specific retinal cells containing melanopsin. Traditionally, research on light has relied on correlated color temperature (CCT) as a metric of its biological influence, given that bluer light corresponds to higher Kelvin values.

Integrated Place-Based Primary Interventions (IPPIs) are considered an innovative response to the challenges and complex issues faced in disadvantaged areas where traditional institutional services have difficulty reaching people in vulnerable situations. IPPIs are an innovative approach to the delivery of in services, conceived as an original community-based local care and service pathways. However, these intervention practices require adaptive modes of governance.

Rationale: Home care allows patients with functional limitations to receive services at home and prevent health decline. Home care can reduce hospitalization and emergency department (ED) transfers. Integrating primary healthcare nurse practitioners (PHCNPs) in home care increases the supply of services, but little is known about their influence on patients' ability to remain at home.

Objective: The aim of the study is to assess whether a blue-enriched light intervention improves nocturnal alertness and daytime sleep of night workers.
Methods: Thirteen miners performing 12-hour night shifts for 12 consecutive nights were exposed to a baseline and a blue-enriched light condition. All subjects wore an actigraph and completed a Psychomotor Vigilance Task at the beginning and at the end of each shift.

Altered microRNA (miRNA) expression is a common feature of Huntington's disease (HD) and could participate in disease onset and progression. However, little is known about the underlying causes of miRNA disruption in HD. We and others have previously shown that mutant Huntingtin binds to Ago2, a central component of miRNA biogenesis, and disrupts mature miRNA levels.

Huntington's disease (HD) is an inherited neurodegenerative disorder caused by an expansion of CAG repeats in the Huntingtin (HTT) gene. Accumulating evidence suggests that the microtubule-associated tau protein participates in the pathogenesis of HD. Recently, we have identified changes in tau alternative splicing of exons 2, 3 and 10 in the putamen of HD patients (St-Amour et al, 2018).

Major depressive disorder (MDD) is one of the most common consequences of chronic stress. Still, there is currently no reliable biomarker to detect individuals at risk to develop the disease. Recently, the retina emerged as an effective way to investigate psychiatric disorders using the electroretinogram (ERG).

Background: The millions of children having a parent affected by a major psychiatric disorder may carry, as vulnerability indicators, electroretinographic (ERG) anomalies resembling those seen in adult patients. Our goal was to determine whether ERG anomalies in high-risk youths are related to clinical precursors of a later transition to illness such as the presence of childhood DSM-IV diagnoses, bouts of psychotic like experiences, lower global IQ and social functioning deterioration.
Methods: The 99 youths (53% males) aged 5-27Â years had one parent affected by schizophrenia, bipolar disorder or major depressive disorder.
Aim: To establish and assess an intersectoral local network focused on the roles of registered nurses and primary healthcare nurse practitioners to ensure the continuity of care and service pathways for refugees in Quebec.
Design: Developmental evaluation with a mixed methodology.
Methods: The qualitative component will include: (1) a document review; (2) observations of participants during meetings of different governance structures; (3) semi-structured interviews with key actors (n = 40; 20/neighbourhood interventions); and (4) focus groups with end users of the services (refugees) (n = 4; 6 to 8 participants per group).

Objectives: Previous studies have indicated that schizophrenia (SCZ) is linked to abnormal phospholipid and fatty acid metabolism. However, comprehensive analysis of phospholipids and free fatty acids (FFAs) for SCZ is very limited. Herein, we sought to compare serum levels of phospholipids and FFAs between patients with SCZ and healthy controls (HCs).

The complexity of schizophrenia (SZ) and bipolar disorder (BD) has slowed down progress in understanding their genetic roots. Alternative genomic approaches are needed to bypass these difficulties. We attempted a multimodal approach to follow-up on reported linkage findings in SZ and BD from the Eastern Quebec kindreds in chromosomes 3q21, 4p34, 6p22, 8p21, 8p11, 13q11-q14, 15q13, 16p12, and 18q21.

Background: The retina is recognized as an approachable part of the brain owing to their common embryonic origin. The electroretinogram (ERG) has proved to be a valuable tool to investigate psychiatric disorders. We therefore investigated its accuracy as a tool to differentiate schizophrenia (SZ) from bipolar disorder (BP) even after balancing patients for their main antipsychotic medication.

Background: Visual defects are documented in psychiatric disorders such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder and major depressive disorder. One of the most consistent alterations in patients is a change in cone and rod electroretinographic (ERG) responses. We previously showed a reduced rod b-wave amplitude in a small sample of young offspring born to an affected parent.

Training in shared decision-making (SDM) often focuses solely on dyadic relationships between one healthcare provider and one patient. However, many healthcare decisions often involve two or more health professionals. These decisions warrant utilizing an interprofessional shared decision-making (IP-SDM) approach which enables patients and their caregivers to face difficult decisions around care together.

Methods: We followed up the clinical/developmental trajectories of 84 young offspring born to affected parents descending from the Quebec kindreds affected by schizophrenia or bipolar disorder.
