Service d'hématologie et immunologie pédiatrique, Hôpital Robert-Debré, Assistance publique des Hôpitaux de Paris (AP-HP), Université Paris-Cité, Paris, France. Electronic address:

Acute leukemias of ambiguous lineage (ALAL) represent between 3 and 5% of childhood AL. This term encompasses many subtypes of AL that have been defined according to the immunophenotypic profile based on the expression of various lineage markers. This classification has been modified and enriched during the last decade thanks to the improvement of molecular biology techniques, which have led to reconsider the ontogenic proximity existing between certain forms of ALAL.

BACKGROUND: Admission to the hospital is a major risk factor for the development of venous thromboembolism (VTE). Whether thromboprophylaxis with low-molecular-weight heparin prevents symptomatic VTE in medically ill, hospitalized older adults remains debated. METHODS: In a prospective, randomized, placebo-controlled, double-blind, multicenter trial, older adults (>70 years of age) hospitalized for acute medical conditions were randomly assigned to receive 40 mg a day of low-molecular-weight heparin (enoxaparin) or placebo for 6 to 14 days.

The selection of a donor is an essential element in allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation. In the absence of an HLA-matched related donor, the selection of an unrelated donor is considered, and is currently the most common type of allogenic donor used in practice. Many criteria are considered for the selection when multiple donors are available, particularly in case of partial match.

April 2023

From the Department of Radiology (W.B., D.I., D.R., A.W., J.R.), Service of Neuroradiology, Centre Hospitalier de l'Université de Montréal, Montreal, Québec, Canada

Background And Purpose: Stent-assisted coiling may improve angiographic results of endovascular treatment of unruptured intracranial aneurysms compared with coiling alone, but this has never been shown in a randomized trial.

Materials And Methods: The Stenting in the Treatment of Aneurysm Trial was an investigator-led, parallel, randomized (1:1) trial conducted in 4 university hospitals. Patients with intracranial aneurysms at risk of recurrence, defined as large aneurysms (≥10 mm), postcoiling recurrent aneurysms, or small aneurysms with a wide neck (≥4 mm), were randomly allocated to stent-assisted coiling or coiling alone.

June 2021

Service des maladies infectieuses, centre hospitalo-universitaire Grenoble Alpes, Grenoble, France, CIC 1406 Inserm, Grenoble, France.

At the end of December 2019, China notified the World Health Organization about a viral pneumonia epidemic soon to be named COVID-19, of which the infectious agent, SARS-CoV-2, was rapidly identified. Less than one year later, published phase 3 clinical trials underlined the effectiveness of vaccines utilizing hitherto unusual technology consisting in injection of the messenger RNA (m-RNA) of a viral protein. In the meantime, numerous clinical trials had failed to identify a maximally effective antiviral treatment, and mass vaccination came to be considered as the strategy most likely to put an end to the pandemic.
