The nucleoside analogue, 2-chlorodeoxyadenosine (2CDA), was reported to be an active treatment for childhood Langerhans cell histiocytosis (LCH) without risk organ (RO-) involvement. However, we lack data on long-term effects of 2CDA treatment, including the disease reactivation rate, permanent sequelae and long-term tolerance. This study included 44 children from the French LCH registry, treated for a RO- LCH with 2CDA monotherapy (median number of six courses).

Assistance Publique-Hôpitaux de Paris, 75004, Paris, France.

Objective: To describe the course over time of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection in French women from the beginning of the pandemic until mid-April, the risk profile of women with respiratory complications, and short-term pregnancy outcomes.

Methods: We collected a case series of pregnant women with COVID-19 in a research network of 33 French maternity units between March 1 and April 14, 2020. All cases of SARS-CoV-2 infection confirmed by a positive result on real-time reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction tests of a nasal sample and/or diagnosed by a computed tomography chest scan were included and analyzed.

Article Synopsis
  • This study aimed to evaluate if the side (right or left) of congenital diaphragmatic hernia (CDH) influences the survival chances of newborns in intensive care.
  • Analyzed data from 506 cases showed a higher survival rate for left CDH (74%) compared to right CDH (49%), but the side alone wasn’t directly linked to increased mortality after accounting for other factors.
  • Key findings indicated that liver herniation and lung-to-head ratio are significant predictors of mortality, while the laterality of CDH did not significantly affect survival rates after adjustments.

Introduction: Although kidney transplantation carries a survival benefit compared with dialysis, mortality, especially the first year after transplantation, is high in recipients older than 70. The aim of this study was to evaluate early death and graft failure, and to determine the risk factors associated with these events in this specific population.

Methods: All patients older than 70 years who received a kidney transplant between January 2000 and December 2014 in the North-West of France were included ( = 171).

European Institute for Peptide Research (IFRMP 23), Department of Endocrinology, INSERM, U-413, Centre Hospitalo-Universitaire de Rouen, 76031 Rouen, France.

We have previously shown that serotonin (5-HT) stimulates aldosterone secretion from the human adrenal gland through activation of 5-HT(4) receptors. The aim of the present study was to investigate in vivo and in vitro the presence of 5-HT(4) receptors in aldosterone-producing adenomas (aldosteronomas). Eight patients with aldosteronoma received a single oral dose of placebo or cisapride (10 mg).

We recently identified activating mutations of fibroblast growth factor receptor 3 (FGFR3) in bladder carcinoma. In this study we assessed the incidence of FGFR3 mutations in a series of 132 bladder carcinomas: 20 carcinoma in situ (CIS), 50 pTa, 19 pT1, and 43 pT2-4. All 48 mutations identified were identical to the germinal activating mutations that cause thanatophoric dysplasia, a lethal form of dwarfism.

The aim of this study was to compare home polysomnography (HoPSG) with laboratory polysomnography (LabPSG) in the diagnosis of sleep apnea syndrome (SAS). A total of 103 patients referred for investigation of SAS underwent two full polysomnographies, using the portable Minisomno device at home and the Respisomnographe in the laboratory (both devices manufactured by the same company). Twenty percent of home-studied device polysomnography (HoSD-PSG) recordings and 5% of LabPSG recordings were excluded from analysis either because of lost data or poor quality data.

[Germline mutations of the p53 gene].

Pathol Biol (Paris)

December 1997

Laboratoire de Génétique Moléculaire, Hôpital Charles Nicolle, Centre Hospitalo-Universitaire de Rouen, France.

Germline mutations of the p53 gene are associated to the Li-Fraumeni, a rare autosomal dominant syndrome characterized by a wide spectrum of tumours including sarcomas, breast carcinomas, brain tumors and adrenocortical carcinomas. In most of the cases, tumours will develop in children and young adults. Germline p53 mutations have been identified in approximately 50% of the families with the Li-Fraumeni syndrome, and in families which only partially fulfilled the definition of the syndrome.

Frontotemporal dementia and parkinsonism (FTDP) is the second most common cause of neurodegenerative dementia after Alzheimer's disease. Recently, several kindreds with an autosomal dominant form of FTDP have been reported and in some families the pathological locus was mapped to a 2 cM interval on 17q21-22. The MAPT gene, located on 17q21 and coding for the human microtubule-associated protein tau, is a strong candidate gene, since tau-positive neuronal inclusions have been observed in brains from some FTDP patients.
