Purpose: Preoperative localization of an insulinoma is recommended to improve the cure rate, but non-invasive procedures can fail to detect the tumour. The objective of the study was to assess the performance of a selective arterial calcium stimulation test in the preoperative localization of insulinomas that were not detected by conventional imaging procedures.
Methods: We conducted a monocenter retrospective case review of 13 patients who had endogenous hyperinsulinism and were treated between 1994 and 2013.

Background & Aims: Stricturing or penetrating lesions develop over time in most patients with Crohn's disease. The Lémann Index indicates the degree of digestive damage at a given time in an individual. We tracked changes in Lémann Index scores in an inception cohort of patients and looked for factors associated with digestive damage.

Purpose: The modalities for anti-dementia drugs' discontinuation are not consensual.
Objective: The objectives of the study were the followings, describe: i) the reasons for discontinuation of anti-dementia drugs of patients treated in a residency for dependent elderly people, ii) security of sudden discontinuation, iii) evolution of troubles.
Methods: Our longitudinal descriptive pilot study aimed at observing consequences of the sudden discontinuation of anti-dementia drugs in a population with a moderate to severe stage of Alzheimer's disease.

Background: Combined injuries to the posterolateral corner and cruciate ligaments are uncommon. The heterogeneity of injury patterns in many studies complicates the assessment of outcomes.
Objective: To assess the prognosis and functional outcomes after surgery for combined injuries to the posterolateral corner and to the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) or posterior cruciate ligament (PCL).
Treatment outcomes for older patients with acute myeloid leukemia (AML) have remained dismal. This randomized, phase 2 trial in AML patients not considered suitable for intensive induction therapy compared low-dose cytarabine (LDAC) with or without volasertib, a highly potent and selective inhibitor of polo-like kinases. Eighty-seven patients (median age 75 years) received LDAC 20 mg twice daily subcutaneously days 1-10 or LDAC + volasertib 350 mg IV days 1 + 15 every 4 weeks.

Introduction: Cerebral metastases occur in 15 to 20% of cancers and their incidence is increasing. The majority occur at an advanced stage of the disease, but metastasis may be the inaugural sign of cancer. The aim of treatments, which are often palliative, is to preserve the neurological status of the patient with the best quality of life.

Coronaviruses are a large group of viruses and infect a lot of species of mammals and birds. Five coronaviruses currently infect humans: HCoVs 229E and OC43, identified in the 1960s, SARS-CoV identified in March 2003 during the SARS epidemic, and the HCoVs NL63 and HKU1, identified in 2004 and 2005 respectively. The genome of the coronaviruses is a linear, non-segmented, positive-sense single-stranded RNA molecule of approximately 30kb.

Five adult patients with gunshot wound defect underwent bilateral mandibular lengthening by an extraoral device. All patients presented with interrupting mandibular defect of 50 to 100 mm. Distraction of bone fragments led to mandibular reconstruction without bone grafting and simultaneous expansion of soft tissues, avoiding free or pedicled myocutaneous flaps for soft tissue reconstruction of the lower third of the face.

Background: The Burch colposuspension, performed by laparotomy or laparoscopy, remains one of the most popular operations for the treatment of genuine stress incontinence. The average failure rate is 10% in patients followed up for 5 years or more in the literature. The etiology of the failure is difficult to assess by clinical or urodynamic investigations; the failure may be due to weak sutures on the Cooper's ligaments or on the vagina, to excessive or insufficient elevation of the cervical neck, or to an incompetent urethral sphincter.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFWe present an original laparoscopic technique for treatment of stress urinary incontinence in women equivalent to the classical open approach described by Burch. This technique is particularly interesting because a wide pneumoretzius allows adequate access without being hindered by intestinal loops or the free border of the bladder. Suspension is achieved with nonabsorbable mesh bands stapled to the vagina and Cooper's ligaments.

A 26-year-old male presented with the symptoms and signs of acute congestive heart failure and hypertension. The left ventricle was shown to be thickened and displayed reversible hypokinesia. Further investigations revealed the underlying pathology of a phaeochromocytoma, bilateral medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC), parathyroid adenoma and macro-prolactinoma.
