Background: Determining which patients with ARDS are most likely to benefit from lung recruitment maneuvers is challenging for physicians. The aim of this study was to assess whether the single-breath simplified decremental PEEP maneuver, which evaluates potential lung recruitment, may predict a subject's response to lung recruitment maneuvers, followed by PEEP titration.

Methods: We conducted a pilot prospective single-center cohort study with a 3-step protocol that defined sequential measurements.

We hypothesized that fit older patients with acute myeloid leukemia (AML) treated with decitabine (DEC) would report better health-related quality of life (HRQoL) outcomes than those receiving intensive chemotherapy (IC). We conducted a phase 3 randomized trial to compare DEC (10-day schedule) with IC (3+7) in older fit patients with AML. HRQoL was a secondary end point, and it was assessed with the European Organisation for Research and Treatment of Cancer Quality of Life Questionnaire Core 30 (EORTC QLQ-C30) in conjunction with its elderly module (EORTC QLQ-ELD14).

[Focus on high speed rotational atherectomy by Rotablator in 2021 and datas from France PCI registry].

Ann Cardiol Angeiol (Paris)

December 2021

Institut Jacques Cartier, Institut Cardiovasculaire Paris Sud (ICPS) Ramsay Générale de Santé, 6 avenue du Noyer-Lambert, 91300 Massy, France.

Developed in the late 1980s, rotational atherectomy has raised a lot of hope for its innovative principle of selective ablation, allowing volume reduction (instead of redistribution) of atherosclerotic plaque, while sparing healthy tissue. Long shunned for its disappointing results on restenosis, the Rotablator finally reasserted itself in the 2000s; era of drug eluting stents and coronary angioplasty boom, thus generating emergence of complex lesions. Indeed, the Rotablator has demonstrated an undeniable benefit in complex (type C) and calcified lesions preparation (before stenting), with a procedural success rate of 95%.

Genetic testing is accepted to be a common practice in many medical specialties. These genetic tests raise issues such as respect for basic rights, how to handle results and uncertainty and how to balance concerns for medical confidentiality with the rights of third parties. Physicians need help to deal with the rapid development of genomic medicine as most of them have received no specific training on the medical, ethical, and social issues involved.

Article Synopsis
  • - RASopathies are genetic disorders linked to variations in genes involved in the RAS/MAPK signaling pathway, with Noonan syndrome being the most prevalent, and characterized by heart defects, short stature, and distinct facial features.
  • - Recent research identified variants in the SOS2 gene, associated with Noonan syndrome, and studied 17 individuals with these variants, revealing that their symptoms align with typical Noonan syndrome but include unique features such as ectodermal anomalies.
  • - A notable finding was that more than half of the patients had lymphatic anomalies, indicating that SOS2-related Noonan syndrome carries a heightened risk for lymphatic complications, impacting patients' quality of life.
