Long-term effects of subthalamic nucleus deep brain stimulation on speech in Parkinson's disease.

Bilateral subthalamic nucleus deep brain stimulation (STN-DBS) is an effective treatment in advanced Parkinson's Disease (PD). However, the effects of STN-DBS on speech are still debated, particularly in the long-term follow-up. The objective of this study was to evaluate the long-term effects of bilateral STN-DBS on speech in a cohort of advanced PD patients treated with bilateral STN-DBS.

Validation of a French version of the Breakthrough Pain Assessment Tool in cancer patients: Factorial structure, reliability and responsiveness.

Objective: Breakthrough cancer pain should be properly assessed for better-personalized treatment plan. The Breakthrough Pain Assessment Tool is a 14-item tool validated in English developed for this purpose; no French version is currently available and validated. This study aimed to translate it in French and assess the psychometric properties of a French version of the Breakthrough Pain Assessment Tool (BAT-FR).

Torque teno virus viremia and QuantiFERON-CMV assay in prediction of cytomegalovirus reactivation in R+ kidney transplant recipients.

Introduction: Cytomegalovirus (CMV) is the most frequent infectious complication following solid organ transplantation. Torque teno viruses (TTV) viremia has been proposed as a biomarker of functional immunity in the management of kidney transplant recipients (KTR). The QuantiFERON-CMV (QF-CMV) is a commercially available assay that allows the assessment of CD8 T-cell responses in routine diagnostic laboratories.

Monocytes activated by pro-inflammatory signals adhere to the vascular endothelium and migrate from the bloodstream to the tissue ultimately differentiating into macrophages. Cell mechanics and adhesion play a crucial role in macrophage functions during this inflammatory process. However, how monocytes change their adhesion and mechanical properties upon differentiation into macrophages is still not well understood.

Quantitative dopamine transporter imaging assessment in Parkinson's disease patients carrying GBA gene mutations compared with idiopathic PD patients: A case-control study.

Background: Genetic risk factors impact around 15% of Parkinson's disease (PD) patients and at least 23 variants have been identified including Glucocerebrosidase (GBA) gene variants. Using different clinical and instrumental qualitative-based data, various studies have been published on GBA-PD cohorts which suggested possible differences in dopaminergic nigrostriatal denervation pattern, particularly in caudate and putamen nuclei.

Methods: This retrospective study included two consecutive homogenous cohorts of GBA-PD and idiopathic (I-PD) patients.

ANCA-associated scleritis: impact of ANCA on presentation, response to therapy and outcome.

Objectives: To describe the characteristics, treatment and outcome of isolated ANCA-associated scleritis at diagnosis compared with idiopathic scleritis with negative ANCA tests.

Methods: This retrospective multicentre case-control study was performed within the French Vasculitis Study Group (FVSG) network and in three French tertiary ophthalmologic centres. Data from patients with scleritis without any systemic manifestation and with positive ANCA results were compared with those of a control group of patients with idiopathic scleritis with negative ANCA tests.

Evaluation of Pain and Use of Analgesics during Medical Termination of Pregnancy in Real-Life Settings.

Introduction: Women frequently report pain associated with medical termination of pregnancy (MToP), and its management can differ largely between centres. This study aimed at evaluating in real-life settings pain related to MToP and its management in France.

Methods: This was a non-interventional prospective, longitudinal study run in 23 centres between 2015 and 2016 that included 893 pregnant women.

A leadless pacemaker in the real-world setting: Patient profile and performance over time.

Background: While prior Micra trials demonstrated a high implant success rate and favorable safety and efficacy results, changes in implant populations and safety over time is not well studied. The objective of this analysis was to report the performance of Micra in European and Middle Eastern patients and compare to the Micra Investigational Device Exemption (IDE) and Micra Post Approval Registry (PAR) studies.

Methods: The prospective, single-arm Micra Acute Performance European and Middle Eastern (MAP EMEA) registry was designed to further study the performance of Micra in patients from EMEA.

Kappa Free Light Chain Biomarkers Are Efficient for the Diagnosis of Multiple Sclerosis: A Large Multicenter Cohort Study.

Background And Objectives: Kappa free light chains (KFLC) seem to efficiently diagnose MS. However, extensive cohort studies are lacking to establish consensus cut-offs, notably to rule out non-MS autoimmune CNS disorders. Our objectives were to (1) determine diagnostic performances of CSF KFLC, KFLC index, and KFLC intrathecal fraction (IF) threshold values that allow us to separate MS from different CNS disorder control populations and compare them with oligoclonal bands' (OCB) performances and (2) to identify independent factors associated with KFLC quantification in MS.

Invasive pneumococcal infections in France: Changes from 2009 to 2021 in antibiotic resistance and serotype distribution of Streptococcus pneumoniae based on data from the French Regional Pneumococcal Observatories network.

Objective: The 23 French Regional Pneumococcal Observatories (ORPs) analyzed antibiotic resistance and serotypes of Streptococcus pneumoniae strains isolated from invasive infections in France over a 12-year period.

Methods: Between 2009 and 2021, the ORPs analyzed 19,319 strains, including 1,965 in children and 17,354 in adults. Strains were assessed for their resistance to penicillin G, amoxicillin and cefotaxime.

Remdesivir for Patients Hospitalized with COVID-19 Severe Pneumonia: A National Cohort Study (Remdeco-19).

Background: Given the rapidly evolving pandemic of COVID-19 in 2020, authorities focused on the repurposing of available drugs to develop timely and cost-effective therapeutic strategies. Evidence suggested the potential utility of remdesivir in the framework of an early access program. REMDECO-19 is a multicenter national cohort study assessing the ability of remdesivir to improve the outcome of patients hospitalized with COVID-19.
