Integrated analysis of randomized controlled trials evaluating bortezomib + lenalidomide + dexamethasone or bortezomib + thalidomide + dexamethasone induction in transplant-eligible newly diagnosed multiple myeloma.

Objective: Providing the most efficacious frontline treatment for newly diagnosed multiple myeloma (NDMM) is critical for patient outcomes. No direct comparisons have been made between bortezomib + lenalidomide + dexamethasone (VRD) and bortezomib + thalidomide + dexamethasone (VTD) induction regimens in transplant-eligible NDMM.

Methods: An integrated analysis was performed using patient data from four trials meeting prespecified eligibility criteria: two using VRD (PETHEMA GEM2012 and IFM 2009) and two using VTD (PETHEMA GEM2005 and IFM 2013-04).

Introduction: Exposure to e-cigarette liquids, whether intentional or accidental, might lead to adverse events. This study aimed to describe the prevalence and characteristics of exposures to e-liquids reported to French Poison Control Centers.

Methods: All e-liquids exposure cases reported to French Poison Control Centers from July 1, 2019, to December 31, 2020, were reviewed.

French Scorpionism (Mainland and Oversea Territories): Narrative Review of Scorpion Species, Scorpion Venom, and Envenoming Management.

Sixty-seven scorpion species have been described in France and its territories, where they have been found to be heterogeneously distributed. Indeed, only one species can be found on Réunion Island, while 38 species exist in French Guiana. The number of stings is also heterogenous, with up to 90 stings per 100,000 inhabitants occurring annually.

In this study, we aimed to identify the factors related to esophageal impaction following button battery (BB) ingestion in children. PilBouTox, a prospective multicentric observational cohort study, was conducted from French Poison Control Centers between June 1, 2016 and May 31, 2018. Children (0-12 years old) with BB ingestion were included.

Adaptive lymphocyte profile analysis discriminates mild and severe forms of COVID-19 after solid organ transplantation.

Solid organ transplant recipients are at high risk for the development of severe forms of COVID-19. However, the role of immunosuppression in the morbidity and mortality of the immune phenotype during COVID-19 in transplant recipients remains unknown. In this retrospective study, we compared peripheral blood T and B cell functional and surface markers, as well as serum antibody development during 29 cases of mild (World Health Organization 9-point Ordinal Scale (WOS) of 3-4) and 22 cases of severe COVID-19 (WOS 5-8) in solid organ transplant (72% kidney transplant) recipients hospitalized in our center.

Introduction: Reducing opioid consumption during and after surgery has been recommended for more than 10 years. Opioid-free anaesthesia (OFA) is a multimodal anaesthesia associating hypnotics, NMDA antagonists, local anaesthetics, anti-inflammatory drugs and α-2 agonists. The hip fracture surgery in elderly patients (HIPELD) study to evaluate xenon anaesthesia for the prevention of postoperative delirium: a multicentre, randomized clinical trial.

Background: Postoperative delirium occurs frequently in elderly hip fracture surgery patients and is associated with poorer overall outcomes. Because xenon anaesthesia has neuroprotective properties, we evaluated its effect on the incidence of delirium and other outcomes after hip fracture surgery.

Methods: This was a phase II, multicentre, randomized, double-blind, parallel-group, controlled clinical trial conducted in hospitals in six European countries (September 2010 to October 2014).

Rationale: Follicular Lymphoma in situ is generally identified as reactive follicular hyperplasia in which some of the hyperplastic germinal centers are colonized by few lymphoma cells. These cells can be detected through their strong 18F-Fluorodeoxyglucose avidity.

Predictive factors for alveolar fenestration and dehiscence.

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the distribution and incidence of two forms of alveolar bone resorption known as fenestration and dehiscence across time and space. To accomplish this a Medieval French population was studied and the results were compared with other studies to examine incidence and distribution of alveolar bone resorption. Thus, 1175 teeth were analysed for 81 individuals, from an agropastoral Medieval (12th-14th century) archaeological site of Vilarnau located in the South of France.

Lenalidomide, Bortezomib, and Dexamethasone with Transplantation for Myeloma.

Background: High-dose chemotherapy plus autologous stem-cell transplantation has been the standard treatment for newly diagnosed multiple myeloma in adults up to 65 years of age. However, promising data on the use of combination therapy with lenalidomide, bortezomib, and dexamethasone (RVD) in this population have raised questions about the role and timing of transplantation.

Methods: We randomly assigned 700 patients with multiple myeloma to receive induction therapy with three cycles of RVD and then consolidation therapy with either five additional cycles of RVD (350 patients) or high-dose melphalan plus stem-cell transplantation followed by two additional cycles of RVD (350 patients).

Haploinsufficiency for NR3C1, the gene encoding the glucocorticoid receptor, in blastic plasmacytoid dendritic cell neoplasms.

Blastic plasmacytoid dendritic cell neoplasm (BPDCN) is a rare and highly aggressive leukemia for which knowledge on disease mechanisms and effective therapies are currently lacking. Only a handful of recurring genetic mutations have been identified and none is specific to BPDCN. In this study, through molecular cloning in an index case that presented a balanced t(3;5)(q21;q31) and molecular cytogenetic analyses in a further 46 cases, we identify monoallelic deletion of NR3C1 (5q31), encoding the glucocorticoid receptor (GCR), in 13 of 47 (28%) BPDCN patients.

[Treatment of pseudoaneurysm following partial nephrectomy].

Bortezomib and heart failure: case-report and review of the French Pharmacovigilance database.

Bortezomib is a proteasome inhibitor commonly indicated for the treatment of multiple myeloma and non Hodgkin lymphoma. Cardiac adverse drug reactions of this drug are not clearly established. We report case where direct involvement of bortezomib in the occurrence of heart failure is strongly suspected and 22 other cases spontaneously reported to the French Pharmacovigilance System.
