Objective: Providing the most efficacious frontline treatment for newly diagnosed multiple myeloma (NDMM) is critical for patient outcomes. No direct comparisons have been made between bortezomib + lenalidomide + dexamethasone (VRD) and bortezomib + thalidomide + dexamethasone (VTD) induction regimens in transplant-eligible NDMM.

Methods: An integrated analysis was performed using patient data from four trials meeting prespecified eligibility criteria: two using VRD (PETHEMA GEM2012 and IFM 2009) and two using VTD (PETHEMA GEM2005 and IFM 2013-04).

Sixty-seven scorpion species have been described in France and its territories, where they have been found to be heterogeneously distributed. Indeed, only one species can be found on Réunion Island, while 38 species exist in French Guiana. The number of stings is also heterogenous, with up to 90 stings per 100,000 inhabitants occurring annually.

In this study, we aimed to identify the factors related to esophageal impaction following button battery (BB) ingestion in children. PilBouTox, a prospective multicentric observational cohort study, was conducted from French Poison Control Centers between June 1, 2016 and May 31, 2018. Children (0-12 years old) with BB ingestion were included.

Adaptive lymphocyte profile analysis discriminates mild and severe forms of COVID-19 after solid organ transplantation.

Solid organ transplant recipients are at high risk for the development of severe forms of COVID-19. However, the role of immunosuppression in the morbidity and mortality of the immune phenotype during COVID-19 in transplant recipients remains unknown. In this retrospective study, we compared peripheral blood T and B cell functional and surface markers, as well as serum antibody development during 29 cases of mild (World Health Organization 9-point Ordinal Scale (WOS) of 3-4) and 22 cases of severe COVID-19 (WOS 5-8) in solid organ transplant (72% kidney transplant) recipients hospitalized in our center.

Objectives: Our objective was to determine disagreement rates in radiological reports provided by using a double-reading protocol in a national teleradiology company.

Methods: From January 2015 to July 2016, 134169 radiological exams from 36 French centers, benefited outsourced interpretations by certified radiologists, in both regular and after-hours activities. Of these, 2040 CT and MR-scans (1.

Introduction: Reducing opioid consumption during and after surgery has been recommended for more than 10 years. Opioid-free anaesthesia (OFA) is a multimodal anaesthesia associating hypnotics, NMDA antagonists, local anaesthetics, anti-inflammatory drugs and α-2 agonists. Proofs of the effect of OFA on reducing opioid-related adverse effects after major or intermediate non-cardiac surgery are still scarce.

Malaria Research and Training Center, University of Sciences, Techniques and Technologies of Bamako, Bamako, Mali.

Article Synopsis
  • * The study utilized multiple methods, including ex vivo and in vitro assays, to evaluate the parasites' ability to recover from artemisinin treatments.
  • * Findings indicated that while most isolates showed low survival rates, a notable percentage were able to multiply after exposure to artemisinin, underscoring the need for ongoing monitoring of treatment efficacy in Mali.

Background: Postoperative delirium occurs frequently in elderly hip fracture surgery patients and is associated with poorer overall outcomes. Because xenon anaesthesia has neuroprotective properties, we evaluated its effect on the incidence of delirium and other outcomes after hip fracture surgery.

Methods: This was a phase II, multicentre, randomized, double-blind, parallel-group, controlled clinical trial conducted in hospitals in six European countries (September 2010 to October 2014).

Departement de Pathologie, Institut Universitaire du Cancer Oncopole de Toulouse Institut National de la Sante et de la Recherche Médicale, U1037, Centre de Recherches en Cancérologie de Toulouse U1037 and Laboratoire d'Excellence (Labex Toucan) Université Paul Sabatier Departement des maladies Infectieuses et tropicales Service de médecine Nucléaire, Centre Hospitalier et universitaire de Toulouse Purpan, Place du Dr Baylac, Toulouse, France.

Rationale: Follicular Lymphoma in situ is generally identified as reactive follicular hyperplasia in which some of the hyperplastic germinal centers are colonized by few lymphoma cells. These cells can be detected through their strong 18F-Fluorodeoxyglucose avidity.

Patient Concerns: We report the case of a 70 year-old patient with arthralgia, weight loss and chronic fever over two months.

Predictive factors for alveolar fenestration and dehiscence.

May 2017

Département d'Anthropologie, Université de Montréal, CP 6128 Succursale centre-ville, Montréal, QC H3C 3J7, Canada.

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the distribution and incidence of two forms of alveolar bone resorption known as fenestration and dehiscence across time and space. To accomplish this a Medieval French population was studied and the results were compared with other studies to examine incidence and distribution of alveolar bone resorption. Thus, 1175 teeth were analysed for 81 individuals, from an agropastoral Medieval (12th-14th century) archaeological site of Vilarnau located in the South of France.

Background: High-dose chemotherapy plus autologous stem-cell transplantation has been the standard treatment for newly diagnosed multiple myeloma in adults up to 65 years of age. However, promising data on the use of combination therapy with lenalidomide, bortezomib, and dexamethasone (RVD) in this population have raised questions about the role and timing of transplantation.

Methods: We randomly assigned 700 patients with multiple myeloma to receive induction therapy with three cycles of RVD and then consolidation therapy with either five additional cycles of RVD (350 patients) or high-dose melphalan plus stem-cell transplantation followed by two additional cycles of RVD (350 patients).

Haploinsufficiency for NR3C1, the gene encoding the glucocorticoid receptor, in blastic plasmacytoid dendritic cell neoplasms.

June 2016

INSERM U1209, CNRS UMR 5309, Faculté de Médecine, Université Grenoble Alpes, Institut Albert Bonniot, Grenoble, France; Labortoire de Génétique Onco-Hématologique and.

Blastic plasmacytoid dendritic cell neoplasm (BPDCN) is a rare and highly aggressive leukemia for which knowledge on disease mechanisms and effective therapies are currently lacking. Only a handful of recurring genetic mutations have been identified and none is specific to BPDCN. In this study, through molecular cloning in an index case that presented a balanced t(3;5)(q21;q31) and molecular cytogenetic analyses in a further 46 cases, we identify monoallelic deletion of NR3C1 (5q31), encoding the glucocorticoid receptor (GCR), in 13 of 47 (28%) BPDCN patients.
