Background: Results from the phase 3 PRODIGE 23 study showed that neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC) with mFOLFIRINOX and preoperative chemoradiotherapy improved disease-free survival compared with preoperative chemoradiotherapy in patients with locally advanced rectal cancer. We aimed to assess the health-related quality of life (HRQOL) outcomes from this study.

Patients And Methods: A total of 461 patients (231 versus 230 patients) from 35 French hospitals were randomly assigned to either NAC with FOLFIRINOX (oxaliplatin 85 mg/m, irinotecan 180 mg/m, leucovorin 400 mg/m, fluorouracil 2400 mg/m over 46 h intravenously every 2 weeks for 6 cycles) followed by preoperative chemoradiotherapy or chemoradiotherapy only.

Reduction mammoplasty is known to be a highly satisfactory surgery but complications and unfavorable results can occur. The objective was to describe the main unfavorable results, to specify their causes, preventions and treatments. We have analyzed articles from the last ten years regarding reduction mammoplasty complications as well as their main unfavorable results.

Long-term outcome and prognostic factors of second allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplant for acute leukemia in patients with a median follow-up of ⩾10 years.

Bone Marrow Transplant

December 2015

EBMT Acute Leukemia Working Party office and AP-HP, Service d'Hématologie et Thérapie Cellulaire, Hopital Saint-Antoine, Sorbonne Universités, UPMC Univ Paris 06, and INSERM, UMR_S 938, CDR Saint-Antoine, Paris, France.

Second allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT2) is a frequently used treatment option for relapse of acute leukemia after first allogeneic transplantation. Remission can be induced in selected patients, but data on long-term outcome and finally cure are limited. To estimate the long-term results of HSCT2, we retrospectively analyzed the course of 286 patients receiving myeloablative HSCT2 between 1985 and 2000, with a median follow-up of 11.

Background: High-dose chemotherapy supported with autologous stem cell transplantation is a standard therapeutic option for a subset of patients with lymphoid malignancies. Cell procurement is nowadays done almost exclusively through cytapheresis, after mobilization of hematopoietic stem and progenitor cells (HSPCs) from the marrow to peripheral blood (PB). The egress of HSPCs out of hematopoietic niches occurs in various physiologic or nonhomeostatic situations; pharmacologic approaches include the administration of acutely myelosuppressive agents or hematopoietic growth factors such as recombinant human granulocyte-colony-stimulating factor (rHuG-CSF).

Sleep disorders in Parkinson's disease: the contribution of the MPTP non-human primate model.

Exp Neurol

October 2009

Université Victor Segalen Bordeaux 2, Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique, Bordeaux Institute of Neuroscience, UMR 5227 and Centre Hospitalier et Universitaire de Bordeaux, 146 rue Léo Saignat, 33076 Bordeaux cedex, France.

To replicate the sleep-wake disorders of Parkinson's disease (PD) and to understand the temporal relationship between these sleep disturbances and the occurrence of parkinsonism, we performed long-term continuous electroencephalographic monitoring of vigilance states in unrestrained rhesus monkeys using an implanted miniaturized telemetry device and tested the effect of MPTP intoxication on their sleep-wake organization. MPTP injection yielded a dramatic disruption of sleep-wake architecture with reduced sleep efficacy that persisted years after MPTP administration. Primary deregulation of REM sleep and increased daytime sleepiness occurring before the emergence of motor symptoms were a striking feature of the MPTP effect.

Background And Objective: The target effect-site concentration of propofol to insert a laryngeal mask airway was recently reported as almost 5 microg mL(-1). The present study aimed to determine the target effect-site concentration with target-controlled infusion of propofol to place classical larnygeal mask airway or current laryngeal tube in adult patients.

Methods: We included 40 patients scheduled for short gynaecological and radiological procedures under general anaesthesia in a randomized, double-blind manner using the Dixon's up-and-down statistical method.

Background: Although opioids are unsurpassed analgesics for surgery, they also induce an N-methyl-D-aspartate-dependent enhancement of postoperative hyperalgesia. Because nitrous oxide (N2O) has anti-N-methyl-D-aspartate properties, the purpose of this study was to evaluate nitrous oxide ability to prevent such an opioid-induced hyperalgesia in rats.

Methods: First, preventive effects of 50/50% N2O-O2 on the development of delayed hyperalgesia observed after inflammatory pain (hind paw carrageenan injection on D0) were examined for several days.

Cytogenetic abnormalities in acute myelocytic leukemia (AML) have been identified as one of the most important prognostic factors. The t(15;17) is associated with high rates of complete remission and event-free survival. Secondary chromosomal changes are also present in approximately one third of patients with newly diagnosed acute promyelocytic leukemia (APL).

Unlabelled: Portal vein thrombosis is a rare but potentially lethal complication in children requiring splenectomy. We report on a 15-year-old boy with a dehydrated hereditary stomatocytosis, who underwent splenectomy and presented a postoperative partial portal vein thrombosis. With prompt heparin therapy, neither propagation of the thrombus nor further cavernous transformation in the following occurred 6 years.
