Intussusception is rare in adults, accounting for 1 to 5 % of mechanical bowel obstructions. It is due to pathologic lead point within the bowel which is malignant in up to 77 % of cases. Benign lesions may also be responsible for intussusception (polyp, Meckel diverticulum).

Objectives: The current study addresses the nature of memory difficulties in amnestic mild cognitive impairment (aMCI). Whereas recollection is consistently found to be impaired in aMCI, the results on familiarity are divergent. One potential factor that could explain this divergence in findings relates to the heterogeneity of aMCI patients, so that only those aMCI patients who develop Alzheimer disease (AD) may present with impaired familiarity.

We conducted a multicenter cohort study to determine the effect of drug therapies on survival in mechanically ventilated patients with coronavirus disease 2019. All consecutive adult patients admitted to ICU for coronavirus disease 2019 from March 1, 2020, to April 25, 2020, and under invasive mechanical ventilation for more than 24 hours were included. Out of 2,003 patients hospitalized for coronavirus disease 2019, 361 were admitted to ICU, 257 were ventilated for more than 24 hours, and 247 were included in the study.

Aim: To describe the state of the professionalisation of midwifery in Belgium, and to formulate recommendations for advancing the midwifery profession.
Methods: A descriptive overview of maternity care in Belgium and the professionalisation of midwifery through an analysis of relevant policy and academic texts, underpinned by Greenwood's sociological criteria for a profession: (1) own body of knowledge, (2) recognised authority, (3) broader community sanctions, (4) own code of ethics and (5) professional culture sustained by formal professional associations. From these insights, recommendations for advancing the midwifery profession in Belgium are formulated.

Introduction: Non-oxidized (n-ox) PTH could better reflect PTH activity. We have evaluated the evolution of n-ox PTH and intact PTH (iPTH) in hemodialyzed (HD) patients over a period of 1 year.
Material And Methods: We measured iPTH and n-ox PTH in 66 stable HD patients and we measured iPTH and n-ox PTH at baseline and after 1, 3, 6 and 12 months.

For about twenty years, peripheral nervous blocks have become the gold standard in postoperative analgesia for knee and foot surgery. The development of echography adapted to anesthesia gave anesthesiologists the opportunity to perform distal, mostly sensitive nerve blocks. Proximal nervous blocks associated analgesia used to be better than general (intravenous or oral) analgesia.

Background: Venous thrombosis is a serious complication of combined contraceptive usage. However, mesenteric venous thrombosis and intestinal necrosis are infrequently seen in women using oral contraceptives, and in such cases diagnosis is often delayed.
Case Presentation: We report the case of a 38-year-old obese female patient who presented with acute abdominal pain.

The analgesia produced by parietal infiltrations with local anesthetics (ALs) results from a block of conduction and the anti-inflammatory effect of the ALs. The duration of the reported analgesia is variable : limited to the duration of action of the ALs, or sometimes very prolonged. The purpose of this randomized, double-blind, study is to investigate the duration of the analgesia of a parietal infiltration after caesarian.

Introduction: Kidney Disease Improving Global Outcomes (KDIGO) guidelines recommend vitamin D supplementation in hemodialyzed patients to monitor 25(OH)-vitamin D 25(OH)D levels. However, patient-to-patient inconsistency can be observed in response to the treatment. In this study, we aimed to evaluate the impact of the dialysis membrane on 25(OH)D, albumin (Alb) and vitamin D-binding protein (VDBP), the major players of vitamin D transport and storage.

Background: Effective maintenance therapies after chemoradiotherapy for lung cancer are lacking. Our aim was to investigate whether the MUC1 antigen-specific cancer immunotherapy tecemotide improves survival in patients with stage III unresectable non-small-cell lung cancer when given as maintenance therapy after chemoradiation.
Methods: The phase 3 START trial was an international, randomised, double-blind trial that recruited patients with unresectable stage III non-small-cell lung cancer who had completed chemoradiotherapy within the 4-12 week window before randomisation and received confirmation of stable disease or objective response.

Presentation, response to therapy, and clinical outcome differ according to race for patients with hypertension. Black patients have a higher prevalence and earlier onset of hypertension than other ethnic groups, with poorer prognosis than white patients. Blacks are more likely to be salt-sensitive, and to have a low plasma renin activity than are whites.

We present a study of 50 patients examined during the year 2007 which represent a "cliché" of the pathology current in our area. These patients, whose pathology has been developing since 1 to 16 years (5,5 years average) are still for the time being in an acceptable functional stage.

The first mould arthroplasty was made from glass in 1923 and was inserted in an ankylosed hip by Smith-Petersen at the Massachusetts General Hospital. Over the next decades, various other materials were used such as Vitallium (cobalt-chromium alloy), introduced in 1938 and polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) by the Judet brothers in 1950. These prostheses are no longer in use.
