Limbic encephalitis with antibodies against adenylate kinase 5 (AK5) has been difficult to characterize because of its rarity. In this study, we identified 10 new cases and reviewed 16 previously reported patients, investigating clinical features, IgG subclasses, human leucocyte antigen and CSF proteomic profiles. Patients with anti-AK5 limbic encephalitis were mostly male (20/26, 76.

Background And Purpose: Disease-modifying therapies (DMTs) have an impact on relapses and disease progression. Nonetheless, many patients with multiple sclerosis (MS) remain untreated. The objectives of the present study were to determine the proportion of untreated patients with MS followed in expert centers in France and to determine the predictive factors of nontreatment.

February 2021

Assistance Publique - Hôpitaux de Paris (AP-HP), Service de médecine intensive et réanimation, Hôpital Saint-Antoine, 184 rue du Faubourg Saint-Antoine, 75571, Paris Cedex 12, France.

Article Synopsis
  • A retrospective multicenter study analyzed 382 patients admitted to ICUs for acute cholangitis (AC) from 2005 to 2018, noting a 29% in-hospital mortality rate.
  • Factors linked to higher mortality included SOFA score, lactate levels, total serum bilirubin, and complications from AC.
  • Over time, mortality rates improved significantly, particularly with prompt biliary decompression; delays of more than 48 hours were associated with increased risk of death.

Understanding the clinical presentation of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection and prognosis in children is a major issue. Children often present mild symptoms, and some severe forms require paediatric intensive care, with in some cases a fatal prognosis. Our aim was to identify the epidemiological characteristics, clinical presentation, and prognosis of children with coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) hospitalized in Paris suburb hospitals.

Artificial intelligence to predict clinical disability in patients with multiple sclerosis using FLAIR MRI.

December 2020

Observatoire Français de la Sclérose en Plaques, Centre de Recherche en Neurosciences de Lyon, INSERM 1028 et CNRS UMR 5292, 69003 Lyon, France; Department of Radiology, Centre Hospitalier Lyon-Sud, Hospices Civils de Lyon, 69310 Pierre-Bénite, France; CREATIS, CNRS UMR 5220, INSERM U1044, 69622 Villeurbanne, France.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to create an algorithm that combines multiple machine-learning techniques to predict the expanded disability status scale (EDSS) score of patients with multiple sclerosis at two years solely based on age, sex and fluid attenuated inversion recovery (FLAIR) MRI data.

Materials And Methods: Our algorithm combined several complementary predictors: a pure deep learning predictor based on a convolutional neural network (CNN) that learns from the images, as well as classical machine-learning predictors based on random forest regressors and manifold learning trained using the location of lesion load with respect to white matter tracts. The aggregation of the predictors was done through a weighted average taking into account prediction errors for different EDSS ranges.

Introduction: Bariatric surgery has been increasingly popular during the last years because of its proven efficacy on obesity and related complications. However, nutrient deficiency is common after surgery, in particular after Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGB) or omega gastric bypass (OGB), due to iatrogenic malabsorption. All vitamins and minerals could be involved, including vitamin B9 which plays an important role in the prevention of neural tube defects during pregnancy.
