Background: Hypereosinophilic syndromes (HES) are a heterogenous group of eosinophilic disorders. To date, only retrospective studies of limited sample-size and/or follow-up duration are available.
Methods: The COHESion study is a national prospective multicenter multidisciplinary cohort recruiting both adults or children with the spectrum of eosinophilic disorders (including reactive HE/HES [HE/HES-R], idiopathic HES [HES-I], lymphocytic HES [HES-L], neoplastic HE/HES [HE/HES-N], HE of unknown significance [HE-US], as well as IgG4-related disease [IgG4RD] or ANCA-negative eosinophilic granulomatosis with polyangiitis [EGPA] overlaps).

Objective: Prenatal whole exome sequencing (pES) is increasingly prescribed for fetuses with ultrasound anomalies. Starting from the local French prenatal medicine practice, healthcare system and legal landscape, we aimed to address the broad medical and ethical issues raised by the use of pES for women and couples as well as for prenatal care providers.
Method: The French Federation of Human Genetics established a working group composed of clinicians and biologists from all over France to discuss pES challenges.

The objectives of the present study were to determine whether obesity impacts human decidualization and the endometrial control of trophoblast invasion (both of which are required for embryo implantation) and evaluate the potential involvement of endometrial extracellular vesicles (EVs) in the regulation of these physiological processes. Using primary human cell cultures, we first demonstrated that obesity is associated with significantly lower in vitro decidualization of endometrial stromal cells (ESCs). We then showed that a trophoblastic cell line's invasive ability was greater in the presence of conditioned media from cultures of ESCs from obese women.

Maternal obesity is increasingly prevalent and is associated with elevated morbidity and mortality rates in both mothers and children. At the interface between the mother and the fetus, the placenta mediates the impact of the maternal environment on fetal development. Most of the literature presents data on the effects of maternal obesity on placental functions and does not exclude potentially confounding factors such as metabolic diseases (e.

Introduction: Acute kidney injury (AKI) is frequently observed in patients with COVID-19 admitted to intensive care units (ICUs). Observational studies suggest that cardiovascular comorbidities and mechanical ventilation (MV) are the most important risk factors for AKI. However, no studies have investigated the renal impact of longitudinal covariates such as drug treatments, biological variations, and/or MV parameters.

Maternal obesity is associated with complications of pregnancy and increases the infant's risk of developing obesity, diabetes and cardiovascular disease later in life. The placenta has an important role in determining the pregnancy outcome, and the syncytiotrophoblast (ST) is the main component of the placenta that supports the relationship between the mother and fetus. The differentiation of the cytotrophoblast (CT) into the ST is accompanied by changes in mitochondrial functions and dynamics.

Acute kidney injury (AKI) is one of the most frequent causes of organ failure encountered in patients in the intensive care unit (ICU). Because of its predisposition to occur in the most critically ill patients, it is not surprising to observe a high frequency of AKI in patients with acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). However, few studies have been carried out to assess the epidemiology of AKI in subgroups of ARDS patients using recommended KDIGO criteria.

Background: Successful human embryo implantation requires the differentiation of endometrial stromal cells (ESCs) into decidual cells during a process called decidualization. ESCs express specific markers of decidualization, including prolactin, insulin-like growth factor-binding protein-1 (IGFBP-1), and connexin-43. Decidual cells also control of trophoblast invasion by secreting various factors, such as matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) and tissue inhibitors of metalloproteinases.

With the intention of having a child and the subsequent question of filiation, "becoming a mother" as well as "becoming a father" always involve a risk. In both men and women, the plan to have a child or to become pregnant can lead to the revival of unresolved conflicts that can question the very organisation of their being. Sterility then comes as a defence against the risk of collapse.

Background: Since the COVID-19 pandemic has occurred, nations showed their unpreparedness to deal with a mass casualty incident of this proportion and severity, which resulted in a tremendous number of deaths even among healthcare workers. The World Society of Emergency Surgery conceived this position paper with the purpose of providing evidence-based recommendations for the management of emergency surgical patients under COVID-19 pandemic for the safety of the patient and healthcare workers.
Method: A systematic review was conducted in accordance with the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Review and Meta-analysis Protocols (PRISMA-P) through the MEDLINE (PubMed), Embase and SCOPUS databases.

Objective: An expert working group was set up at the initiative of the French Ministry of Sports with the objective of harmonising the management of sport related concussion (SRC) in France, starting with its definition and diagnosis criteria.
Results: Definition: A clinical definition in 4 points have been established as follows: Concussion is a brain injury: 1) caused by a direct or indirect transmission of kinetic energy to the head; 2) resulting in an immediate and transient dysfunction of the brain characterised by at least one of the following disorders: a) Loss of consciousness, b) loss of memory, c) altered mental status, d) neurological signs; 3) possibly followed by one or more functional complaints (concussion syndrome); 4) the signs and symptoms are not explained by another cause. Diagnosis criteria: In the context of the direct or indirect transmission of kinetic energy to the head, the diagnosis of concussion may be asserted if at least one of the following signs or symptoms, observed or reported, is present within the first 24hours and not explained by another cause: 1) loss of consciousness; 2) convulsions, tonic posturing; 3) ataxia; 4) visual trouble; 5) neurological deficit; 6) confusion; 7) disorientation; 8) unusual behaviour; 9) amnesia; 10) headaches; 11) dizziness; 12) fatigue, low energy; 13) feeling slowed down, drowsiness; 14) nausea; 15) sensitivity to light/noise; 16) not feeling right, in a fog; 17) difficulty concentrating.

Background: A woman's negative perception of her subjective childbirth experience can have consequences on the mother's psychological state and on early mother-baby relationships. To date, there is no validated tool in France allowing to evaluate childbirth experience in a multidimensional way. The aim of this study is to validate the Questionnaire Assessing the Childbirth Experience (QEVA) in a French sample of mothers.

Given that (i) endometriosis affects approximately 40% of women diagnosed with fertility problems and (ii) this condition may be an underestimated cause of idiopathic infertility, it is essential to identify high-risk patients for laparoscopic screening and reduce the diagnostic delay. We performed a retrospective analysis of 312 women (208 diagnosed with endometriosis and 104 controls) admitted to an fertilisation (IVF) unit in the city of Brest (France) between June 2007 and July 2014. As part of the women's infertility treatment, levels of cancer antigen 125 (CA-125) were assayed in blood samples collected on the day of oocyte retrieval.

Background: It is well established that obesity is associated with dysregulation of the ratio between the two major adipokines leptin and adiponectin. Furthermore, it was recently reported that maternal obesity has a significant impact on placental development. Leptin and adiponectin are present at the fetal-maternal interface and are involved in the development of a functional placenta.

The earliest stages of pregnancy are marked by countless changes in the maternal environment. A specific coordination of activity is required for a successful pregnancy, starting early in the menstrual cycle. Early establishment of maternal-fetal crosstalk is critical for the progression of pregnancy.
