Following the publication of national recommendations regarding the handling of implantable venous access ports, an observation audit was carried out in a hospital in 2013. This enabled an assessment of the existing system to be performed, current practices to be compared with the hospital's protocol and adapted corrective measures to be put in place. A further audit carried out in 2015 was particularly encouraging.

[Severe pulmonary tuberculosis in the ICU, diagnosis and treatment].

Introduction: Pulmonary tuberculosis can rarely lead to acute respiratory distress syndrome and anti-tuberculous therapy initiation depends on this difficult diagnosis in ICU.

Case Report: A 50-year-old man presented a septic shock and acute respiratory distress syndrome with bilateral infiltrates mainly in the upper lobes on chest radiography. Diagnosis of pulmonary tuberculosis was made 10days after admission on examination of cavitary and diffuse infiltrates on a second CT scan, in addition to presence of acid-fast bacilli on smear examination of bronchial aspirates.

Objectives: To describe the characteristics of a cohort of patients with microscopic colitis (MC; lymphocytic (LC) or collagenous (CC) colitis) and to compare them with patients with functional bowel disorder with diarrhea (FBD-D).

Methods: Between September 2010 and June 2012, patients fulfilling the following inclusion criteria were prospectively included in 26 centers in France: (i) having at least three bowel movements daily with change in stool consistency; (ii) duration of abnormal bowel habit >4 weeks; and (iii) normal or near-normal colonoscopy. Each patient underwent a colonoscopy and colonic biopsies.

Thiamine deficiency is recognized in varied parts of the world. In Asia, it remains an important public health problem where highly polished rice is the major staple food and where other primary dietary sources of thiamine are in short supply. Beriberi, or clinically apparent thiamine deficiency, may present a variety of syndromes including myocardial dysfunction or wet beriberi, dry beriberi with neurological symptoms, and the more severe form Shoshin beriberi with cardiac failure and lactic acidosis.

[Antidesmoglein antibodies in a patient with Hailey-Hailey disease].

Background: Hailey-Hailey disease (HHD) is a rare hereditary disease in which the genetic defect is characterized by mutation in the ATP2C1 gene coding for a transmembrane calcium pump. It is generally considered a non-immunologic acantholytic dermatosis in which direct and indirect immunofluorescence studies are negative, unlike in autoimmune pemphigus.

The great majority of patients with chronic viral hepatitis C are treated with pegylated interferon-ribavirin therapy. The aim of this study was to demonstrate that these patients were able to have some form of physical exercise, and that this activity can lead to an improvement in their quality-of-life. Twelve volunteer patients with hepatitis C, who were either sedentary or had become sedentary and who had been treated by combination therapy for the past few weeks, were recruited at hepatology clinics in the Midi-Pyrénées region of France early in 2006.
