Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the safety and efficacy of intralesional injection of chitosan hydrogel (CH) combined with sodium tetradecyl sulfate (STS) to sclerose and embolize venous malformations (VMs) by comparison with 3% STS foam and placebo in a mouse model.
Materials And Methods: Subcutaneous VMs were created by injecting HUVEC_TIE2-L914F cells, mixed with matrigel, into the back of athymic mice (Day [D] 0). After VM-like lesions were established at D10, 70 lesions were randomly assigned to one of six treatment groups (untreated, saline, 3% STS-foam, CH, 1% STS-CH, 3% STS-CH).

Background: Postoperative pulmonary complications (PPCs) are associated with postoperative mortality and prolonged hospital stay. Although intraoperative mechanical ventilation (MV) is a risk factor for PPCs, strategies addressing weaning from MV are understudied. In this systematic review, we evaluated weaning strategies and their effects on postoperative pulmonary outcomes.

Background: Motoric Cognitive Risk (MCR) syndrome, a predementia syndrome characterized by cognitive complaints and slow gait, may have an underlying vascular etiology. Elevated blood levels of homocysteine, a known vascular risk factor, have been linked to physical and cognitive decline in older adults, though the relationship with MCR is unknown. We aimed to identify the association between homocysteine and MCR risk.

Hepatocyte Nuclear Factor 4-alpha (HNF4α) comprises a nuclear receptor superfamily of ligand-dependent transcription factors that yields twelve isoforms in humans, classified into promoters P1 or P2-associated groups with specific functions. Alterations in HNF4α isoforms have been associated with tumorigenesis. However, the distribution of its isoforms during progression from dysplasia to malignancy has not been studied, nor has it yet been studied in intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasms, where both malignant and pre-malignant forms are routinely clinically identified.

Background: Direct-acting antiviral (DAA) therapies have simplified HCV treatment, and publicly funded Canadian drug plans have eliminated disease-stage restrictions for reimbursement of DAA therapies. However other policies which complicate, delay, or prevent treatment initiation still persist. We aim to describe these plans' existing reimbursement criteria and appraise whether they hinder treatment access.

Background: Measuring the incidence of HIV and hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection among people who inject drugs (PWID) is key to track progress towards elimination. We aimed to summarise global data on HIV and primary HCV incidence among PWID and associations with age and sex or gender.
Methods: In this systematic review and meta-analysis, we updated an existing database of HIV and HCV incidence studies among PWID by searching MEDLINE, Embase, and PsycINFO, capturing studies published between Jan 1, 2000, and Dec 12, 2022, with no language or study design restrictions.
Introduction: People with opioid use disorders (OUD) present with high levels of medical and psychosocial vulnerabilities. In recent years, studies have highlighted a shift in demographic and biopsychosocial profiles of people with OUD. In order to support the development of a profile-based approach to care, this study aims to identify different profiles of people with OUD in a sample of patients admitted to a specialised opioid agonist treatment (OAT) facility.

Background: In many neurological disorders, including Alzheimer disease, early olfactory dysfunction is observed.
Objective: In order to determine if deficits in olfactory memory are present in the elderly and if olfactory dysfunction correlates with cognitive impairment in the aging population, olfactory testing has been done on seniors from the NuAge cohort accepting to participate in the Olfactory Response Cognition and Aging (ORCA) secondary sub-study. The t-Mini Mental Statement Examination and the Telephone Interview for Cognitive Status tests were done to assess cognition levels.

Background: Renin-angiotensin system inhibitors (RASi) are not re-initiated for almost a quarter of patients who suffered acute kidney injury 6 months after discharge. This discontinuation might be partly explained by the nephrotoxicity of these medications, yet they remain of benefit, especially for patients with heart failure.
Objective: To determine the factors deemed by clinicians to influence RASi re-initiation and set threshold values for important safety parameters.

Unlabelled: Although inflammatory mechanisms driving hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) have been proposed, the regulators of anticancer immunity in HCC remain poorly understood. We found that IL27 receptor (IL27R) signaling promotes HCC development in vivo. High IL27EBI3 cytokine or IL27RA expression correlated with poor prognosis for patients with HCC.

Background: Omega-3 (n-3) PUFAs are suggested to play a role in the prevention of cognitive decline. The evidence may be inconsistent due to methodologic issues, including interrelations with other long-chain (14 or more carbons) fatty acids (LCFAs) and use of sex as a confounding factor rather than an effect modifier.
Objectives: This study evaluated the association between serum n-3 PUFAs and performance across 4 cognitive domains, overall and by sex, while controlling for other LCFAs.

Purpose: In adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS), non-invasive surgical techniques such as anterior vertebral body tethering (AVBT) enable to treat patients with mild and severe degrees of deformity while maintaining lower lumbar motion by avoiding spinal fusion. However, multiple features and characteristics affect the overall patient outcome, notably the 3D spine geometry and bone maturity, but also from decisions taken intra-operatively such as the selected tethered vertebral levels, which makes it difficult to anticipate the patient response.
Methods: We propose here a forecasting method which can be used during AVBT surgery, exploiting the spatio-temporal features extracted from a dynamic networks.

The Centre Hospitalier Universitaire Sainte-Justine (Montreal, Canada) is a pediatric academic tertiary hospital that has begun the implementation of a commercial computerized provider order entry system (CPOE) in October 2019. The objectives of this paper are 1) to estimate the impact of the CPOE system on medication errors, and 2) to identify vulnerability issues related to the configuration of the CPOE system's design. Using a pre-post implementation methodology measuring medication errors captured by clinical pharmacists revealed that the implementation of a CPOE has eliminated all prescription conformity (e.
