Microstrip plastic scintillating detector system for quality assurance in synchrotron microbeam radiotherapy.

Synchrotron microbeam radiotherapy (MRT), which has entered the clinical transfer phase, requires the development of appropriate quality assurance (QA) tools due to very high dose rates and spatial hyperfractionation. A microstrip plastic scintillating detector system with associated modules was proposed in the context of real-time MRT QA. A prototype of such a system with 105 scintillating microstrips was developed and tested under MRT conditions.

Objectives: High-dose quadrivalent influenza vaccine (HD-QIV) was introduced during the 2021/2022 influenza season in France for adults aged ≥65 years as an alternative to standard-dose quadrivalent influenza vaccine (SD-QIV). The aim of this study is to estimate the relative vaccine effectiveness of HD-QIV vs. SD-QIV against influenza-related hospitalizations in France.

Neuro-Oncologic Veterinary Trial for the Clinical Transfer of Microbeam Radiation Therapy: Acute to Subacute Radiotolerance after Brain Tumor Irradiation in Pet Dogs.

Synchrotron Microbeam Radiation Therapy (MRT) has repeatedly proven its superiority compared with conventional radiotherapy for glioma control in preclinical research. The clinical transfer phase of MRT has recently gained momentum; seven dogs with suspected glioma were treated under clinical conditions to determine the feasibility and safety of MRT. We administered a single fraction of 3D-conformal, image-guided MRT.

Malnutrition and Its Determinants among Older Adults Living in French Caribbean Nursing Homes: A Cross-Sectional Study.

Background: This study aimed to assess the prevalence of malnutrition and its determinants in older adults living in French Caribbean nursing homes.

Methods: This cross-sectional study was taken from the KASEHAD (Karukera Study of Ageing in EHPAD) study. Nutritional status was assessed with the Mini Nutritional Assessment Short-Form (MNA-SF).

Neurologic Changes Induced by Whole-Brain Synchrotron Microbeam Irradiation: 10-Month Behavioral and Veterinary Follow-Up.

Purpose: Novel radiation therapy approaches have increased the therapeutic efficacy for malignant brain tumors over the past decades, but the balance between therapeutic gain and radiotoxicity remains a medical hardship. Synchrotron microbeam radiation therapy, an innovative technique, deposes extremely high (peak) doses in micron-wide, parallel microbeam paths, whereas the diffusing interbeam (valley) doses lie in the range of conventional radiation therapy doses. In this study, we evaluated normal tissue toxicity of whole-brain microbeam irradiation (MBI) versus that of a conventional hospital broad beam (hBB).

Objectives: To assess the impact of disparities in production and analytical control processes on the quality of parenteral nutrition (PN) preparations produced in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region.

Methods: This study was carried out in four hospital pharmacies of the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. To assess the impact of production processes, each centre produced ten PN preparations from the same prescription.

In-Hospital and 1-Year Clinical Results from the French Registry Using Polymer-Free Sirolimus-Eluting Stents in Acute Coronary Syndrome and Stable Coronary Artery Disease.

Objectives: The aim of this postmarket clinical study was to assess the safety and efficacy of the latest generation polymer-free sirolimus-eluting stents (PF-SES) in an all-comers population comparing outcomes in stable coronary artery disease (CAD) versus acute coronary syndrome (ACS) in France.

Background: The efficacy and safety of the first-generation PF-SES have already been demonstrated by randomized controlled trials and "all-comers" observational studies.

Methods: For this all-comers observational, prospective, multicenter study, 1456 patients were recruited in 22 French centers.

Screening for cognitive impairment in adults with sickle cell disease: A systematic review and meta-analysis.

Neurovascular disease such as symptomatic stroke, silent brain infarcts and vascular cognitive impairment are common complications of sickle cell disease (SCD) that can have devastating consequences on quality of life, employment, and social functioning.  Early recognition of neurovascular disease is a prerequisite for the timely optimization of medical care and to connect patients to adaptive resources. While cognitive impairment has been well described in children, currently available data are limited in adults.

Monocrystalline diamond detector for online monitoring during synchrotron microbeam radiotherapy.

Microbeam radiation therapy (MRT) is a radiotherapy technique combining spatial fractionation of the dose distribution on a micrometric scale, X-rays in the 50-500 keV range and dose rates up to 16 × 10 Gy s. Nowadays, in vivo dosimetry remains a challenge due to the ultra-high radiation fluxes involved and the need for high-spatial-resolution detectors. The aim here was to develop a striped diamond portal detector enabling online microbeam monitoring during synchrotron MRT treatments.

Evisceration with implantation of an intrascleral silicone prosthesis in dogs: A retrospective study of 107 cases (2010-2019).

Objective: To retrospectively analyze the preoperative clinical characteristics and surgical outcomes of evisceration with implantation of an intrascleral silicone prosthesis (EIISP) procedures in dogs and evaluate whether brachycephalic dogs are more prone than non-brachycephalic dogs to develop postoperative complications after EIISP.

Animal Studied: Ninety-One dogs (19 of which were brachycephalic) were included.

Procedures: Medical records from 2010 to 2019 were reviewed.

Eye trauma from a cat scratch with retention of the claw in the anterior chamber in a dog.

Background: Cat scratches and ocular foreign bodies are frequent reasons for consultation in veterinary ophthalmology.

Case Description: We here present an unusual case combining trauma to the cornea and lens by a cat scratch with retention of the claw in the anterior chamber. Management consisted of the removal of the claw, reconstruction of the cornea, and mechanized ablation of the lens by phacoemulsification with implantation of an artificial lens.

Multidirectional corneoconjunctival transposition in the treatment of large keratomalacia in 7 dogs and 5 cats.

Objective: To describe the use of multidirectional corneoconjunctival transposition (CCT) as a surgical treatment for large keratomalacia.

Method: A prospective study including dogs and cats initially presenting with keratomalacia larger than 6 × 6 mm and affecting more than half of the corneal thickness. Signalment, concurrent eye diseases, ulcer size, bacterial culture and susceptibility testing results, follow-up, and outcome were recorded.

Routine Rehabilitation as a Treatment Component for Patients With Pulmonary Arterial or Chronic Thromboembolic Pulmonary Hypertensions.

Purpose: Patients with pulmonary hypertension (PH) have long been advised to avoid exercise in fear of deterioration in right-sided heart function. Since the 2009 European Society of Cardiology guidelines, rehabilitation in expert centers is considered to have a specific role in care of patients with pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) and chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension (CTEPH). We report routine rehabilitation effects in patients with PH as a component of real-life multimodal treatment.

Multiomic analysis of malignant pleural mesothelioma identifies molecular axes and specialized tumor profiles driving intertumor heterogeneity.

Malignant pleural mesothelioma (MPM) is an aggressive cancer with rising incidence and challenging clinical management. Through a large series of whole-genome sequencing data, integrated with transcriptomic and epigenomic data using multiomics factor analysis, we demonstrate that the current World Health Organization classification only accounts for up to 10% of interpatient molecular differences. Instead, the MESOMICS project paves the way for a morphomolecular classification of MPM based on four dimensions: ploidy, tumor cell morphology, adaptive immune response and CpG island methylator profile.
