Full labia minora reconstruction can be necessary due to congenital malformation or genetic syndromes, but more often is required following oncologic excisions, or debridements after vulvar or perineal infections. It is important to note that full labia reconstruction can be needed after genital mutilation, or iatrogenic deformity after previous labia reduction procedure. A 37-year-old female patient, with vulvar necrotizing fasciitis after a marsupialization of the right Bartholin's gland, was referred to the Gynecology and Obstetrics unit.

Purpose: There are challenges in understanding the biomechanics of the human middle ear, and established methods for studying this system show significant limitations. In this study, we evaluate a novel dynamic imaging technique based on synchrotron X-ray microtomography designed to assess the biomechanical properties of the human middle ear by comparing it to laser-Doppler vibrometry (LDV).
Methods: We examined three fresh-frozen temporal bones (TB) using dynamic synchrotron-based X-ray microtomography for 256 Hz and 512 Hz, stimulated at 110 dB and 120 dB SPL.

Introduction: The Swiss Eosinophilic Esophagitis Cohort Study (SEECS) is a national cohort that was established in 2015 with the aim of improving quality of care of affected adults with eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE). Between 2020 and 2022, paper questionnaires were gradually replaced by fully electronic data capture using Research Electronic Data Capture (REDCap) software. We aim to provide an update of the SEECS 8 years after its launch.

Immunotherapy has emerged as a new standard of care for certain cancer patients with specific cellular and molecular makeups. However, there is still an unmet need for ex vivo models able to readily assess the effectiveness of immunotherapeutic treatments in a high-throughput and patient-specific manner. To address this issue, we have developed a microarrayed system of patient-derived tumoroids with recreated immune microenvironments that are optimized for the high-content evaluation of tumor-infiltrating lymphocyte functionality.

Background: Traditional surgical training and further education has historically involved long working hours and hands-on experience within the framework of a teacher-apprentice relationship; however, changes in regulatory policy in the USA and subsequently in Switzerland and the European Union from 2003, led to restrictions in the working hours of medical residents. As a result the traditional method of surgical training "see one, do one, teach one" has come under scrutiny, prompting a search for alternative training methods beyond the confines of the operating theater.
Objective: This publication highlights the possibilities and limitations associated with the use of virtual reality (VR) and gamification in surgical training and further education.

Motivation: Mendelian randomization (MR) is a widely used approach to estimate causal effect of variation in gene expression on complex traits. Among several MR-based algorithms, transcriptome-wide summary statistics-based Mendelian Randomization approach (TWMR) enables the uses of multiple SNPs as instruments and multiple gene expression traits as exposures to facilitate causal inference in observational studies.
Results: Here we present a Python-based implementation of TWMR and revTWMR.

The auditory ossicles amplify and transmit sound from the environment to the inner ear. The distribution of bone mineral density is crucial for the proper functioning of sound transmission as the ossicles are suspended in an air-filled chamber. However, little is known about the distribution of bone mineral density along the human ossicular chain and within individual ossicles.

Introduction: Ultrasound is gaining popularity for diagnosing scaphoid fractures. However, it hasn't been used to assess fracture displacement, such as humpback deformity. We propose a sonographic method to measure the intra-scaphoid angle, potentially serving as an alternative to CT scans for detecting fragment malposition after a scaphoid fracture.

Background: Since the HIV epidemic in the 1980s, CMV retinitis has been mainly reported in this context. CMV retinitis in persons living with HIV is usually observed when CD4 + cells are below 50 cells/mm3. This study aims to describe the immune markers of non-HIV-related CMV retinitis as well as to describe its clinical manifestations and outcomes.

Background: Due to the high prevalence of hypertension in patients with autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD) and advanced chronic kidney disease, diagnosing secondary hypertension poses challenges. We present a rare case of pheochromocytoma in an ADPKD patient to highlight the diagnostic difficulties in identifying secondary hypertension due to pheochromocytoma/paraganglioma (PPGL) in end-stage renal disease (ESRD) patients.
Case Report: A 48-year-old female with ADPKD and ESRD experienced recurrent hypertensive crises (up to 220/135 mmHg) accompanied by palpitations and tremors that recurred over the past 2 years.
A variety of pathophysiological mechanisms exist by which physical exercise, nutrition, and the microbiome can impact the development of cancer and the response of tumor cells to systemic anti-cancer therapy. Physical exercise positively impacts the different stages of oncological disease and may improve overall survival and quality of life, reduce treatment-associated toxicity, and improve response to immunotherapy. Nutrition impacts quality of life, and novel nutritional regimens and their role in cancer treatment and outcomes are under active investigation.

In forensic investigations, identifying the type of body fluid allows for the interpretation of biological evidence at the activity level. Over the past two decades, significant research efforts have focused on developing molecular methods for this purpose. MicroRNAs (miRNAs) hold great promise due to their tissue-specific expression, abundance, lack of splice variants, and relative stability.

Vascularized bone grafts of the wrist and hand help to achieve bone union in various clinical settings such as bone fusion or nonunion treatment. Among the multiple possible donor sites, the base of the second metacarpal is convenient because of its relatively straightforward harvesting, lack of impairment of the hand vascularization, sufficient bone supply for small joint fusion and phalanx or metacarpal nonunion management. The flap is versatile as it can reach any carpal and metacarpal bone as well as the proximal phalanx of all fingers.

An octogenarian woman showed increased sexual function after replacing alprazolam with clomethiazole, a sedative-hypnotic drug commonly prescribed in French-speaking Switzerland for the treatment of anxiety and insomnia in elderly patients. The patient's sexual symptoms did not improve after resuming alprazolam, but disappeared after interrupting clomethiazole, and did not reappear when alprazolam was discontinued. Considering the chronology of the events, increased sexual function was likely a manifestation of the introduction of clomethiazole.

Brain metastases are the most common brain tumors in patients and are associated with poor prognosis. Investigating the colonization and outgrowth of brain metastases is challenging given the complexity of the organ, tissue sampling difficulty, and limited experimental models. To address this challenge, we employed a strategy to analyze the metastatic niche in established lesions, based on the release of a cell-penetrating mCherry tag from labeled tumor cells to neighboring niche cells, using different brain metastasis mouse models.

Objective: There are few tools capable of measuring the personal recovery of individuals presenting with mental disorders that take into account the various dimensions of recovery. Personal recovery encompasses several objectives at the level of autonomy, positive interpersonal relationships, mental and physical health, self-acceptance, the school/professional domain, as well as developing a life project. A team of practitioners and researchers from four countries (Canada, Belgium, France, and Switzerland) adapted the Client Assessment of Strengths, Interests, and Goals (CASIG) tool to more accurately measure these different aspects of personal recovery.

Exercise addiction, although not yet officially recognized, can be defined as the harmful practice of physical exercise, described as a compulsive need, where damage take precedence over the benefits of this practice, with a continuation of this behavior despite the negative consequences. A number of risk factors have been identified, including psychopathological conditions such as eating disorders or other addictions. It is possible to detect this addiction and assess its intensity using multidimensional questionnaires, even the clinical relevance and thresholds of which are still debated.
