Benzodiazepine-receptor agonist prescription in a population of hospitalised patients in four psychogeriatric units in Switzerland.

The aim of this study is to describe the patterns of prescription of benzodiazepine-receptor agonists in hospitalised patients in four psychogeriatric units in Switzerland. This is a retrospective cross-sectional study that included patients aged 65 years or more hospitalised in one of the four psychogeriatric units of a university hospital in Switzerland during 2019. The presence, type and dose of benzodiazepine-receptor agonists was assessed at admission and at discharge.

Increased sexual function after intake of clomethiazole.

An octogenarian woman showed increased sexual function after replacing alprazolam with clomethiazole, a sedative-hypnotic drug commonly prescribed in French-speaking Switzerland for the treatment of anxiety and insomnia in elderly patients. The patient's sexual symptoms did not improve after resuming alprazolam, but disappeared after interrupting clomethiazole, and did not reappear when alprazolam was discontinued. Objective: There are few tools capable of measuring the personal recovery of individuals presenting with mental disorders that take into account the various dimensions of recovery. Personal recovery encompasses several objectives at the level of autonomy, positive interpersonal relationships, mental and physical health, self-acceptance, the school/professional domain, as well as developing a life project. This article outlines the management of transgender and non-binary adolescents at CHUV. The current rise in visibility of this topic is associated with an increased demand for intervention and at the same time with an increased generation of continuously expanding medical evidence to guide interventions. The close collaboration among various specialized adolescent health services enables an interdisciplinary evaluation of diagnostic elements and indications for potential psychological, social or medical interventions.

Adolescence is a developmental phase that exposes young people to exploratory behaviors, including substance abuse. In Switzerland, recreational ketamine use among young people is on the rise and is likely to lead to irreversible somatic complications. Primary care physicians play an essential role in identifying ketamine users, and should offer brief interventions, risk-reduction advice and a psychosocial assessment of the situation, involving close relatives.

Voluntary cessation of hemodialysis is a common cause of death in dialysis patients, often occurring related to an alteration in their quality of life. At the same time, psychiatric disorders such as depression or anxiety are common and often underestimated among these patients, that accentuate the suffering and complicate compliance with dialysis. In this paper some psychopathological conditions will be addressed, as well as the question of the patient's ambivalence towards dialysis and the clinical and ethical dilemma of caregivers: respect the patient's choice to stop treatment or keep them alive at all costs? A multidisciplinary approach, including palliative care, is essential to support the reflection and make balanced decisions while respecting patient autonomy.

Resistance to treatment in psychiatry can arise from a variety of causes, and here we look at two strategies that can improve this problem. First, we discuss the role of patients' relatives; in addition to family therapy interventions, setting up groups of relatives makes it possible to increase their skills in helping their sick relative and to help each other in this process. And finally, we look at the option of interventional psychiatry.
