Background: After observing a case of plasma exchange-mediated hepatitis E virus (HEV) infection in a kidney transplant recipient, we investigated the relationship between plasma exchange and HEV infection after kidney transplantation.

Methods: A cohort of 263 patients who underwent kidney transplantation from January 1, 2011, through December 31, 2012, was screened for HEV markers, including anti-HEV IgG and IgM antibodies and HEV ribonucleic acid (RNA), on 3 consecutive blood samples: 1 before, 1 with a mean (standard deviation) of 9.5 (9) months, and 1 with a mean (standard deviation) of 18.

The aims of this study were to describe the blood plasma (BP) and seminal plasma (SP) pharmacokinetics of tenofovir (TFV) in HIV-1-infected men, to assess the role of genetic polymorphism in the variability of TFV transfer into the male genital tract, and to evaluate the impact of TFV SP exposure on seminal plasma HIV load (spVL). Men from the Evarist-ANRS EP 49 study treated with TFV as part of their antiretroviral therapy were included in the study. A total of 248 and 217 TFV BP and SP concentrations from 129 men were available for the analysis.

An estimation of burden of serious fungal infections in France.

J Mycol Med

December 2016

Centre hospitalier universitaire Necker-Enfants-Malades, Assistance publique-Hôpitaux de Paris, laboratoire de parasitologie-mycologie, 149, rue de Sèvres, 75015 Paris, France.

Objective Of The Study: An estimation of burden of serious fungal diseases in France is essential data to inform public health priorities on the importance of resources and research needed on these infections. In France, precise data are available for invasive fungal diseases but estimates for several other diseases such as chronic and immunoallergic diseases are by contrast less known.

Materials And Methods: A systematic literature search was conducted using the Web of Science Platform.

The aim of this work was to document molecular epidemiology of Rasamsonia argillacea species complex isolates from cystic fibrosis (CF) patients. In this work, 116 isolates belonging to this species complex and collected from 26 CF patients and one patient with chronic granulomatous disease were characterized using PCR amplification assays of repetitive DNA sequences and electrophoretic separation of amplicons (rep-PCR). Data revealed a clustering consistent with molecular species identification.

Objectives: Intermittent seminal HIV-RNA detection can occur in MSM despite concomitant plasma virological control on combined ART (cART). We undertook the present study to determine if seminal HIV detection was associated with seminal cytomegalovirus (CMV) detection or detection of HIV-infected cells in semen.

Methods: Longitudinal semen samples from HIV-1-infected MSM on successful cART enrolled in the EVARIST ANRS EP 49 study were analysed.

Postnatal blockade of the activin type IIB receptor (ActRIIB) represents a promising therapeutic strategy for counteracting dystrophic muscle wasting. However, its impact on muscle function and bioenergetics remains poorly documented in physiologic conditions. We have investigated totally noninvasively the effect of 8-wk administration of either soluble ActRIIB signaling inhibitor (sActRIIB-Fc) or vehicle PBS (control) on gastrocnemius muscle force-generating capacity, energy metabolism, and anatomy in dystrophic mdx mice using magnetic resonance (MR) imaging and dynamic [P]-MR spectroscopy ([P]-MRS) in vivo ActRIIB inhibition increased muscle volume (+33%) without changing fiber-type distribution, and increased basal animal oxygen consumption (+22%) and energy expenditure (+23%).

Université Paris Descartes, EA 7327, Université Paris Descartes PRES Sorbonne Paris-Cité, Paris, France APHP, Unité Fonctionnelle de Thérapeutique en Immuno-Infectiologie, Centre Hospitalier Universitaire Hôtel-Dieu, Paris, France

Objectives: The objective of this study was to address the dynamics of archived resistant quasispecies in cell-associated HIV-1 DNA over time in heavily ART-experienced patients with currently suppressed plasma HIV-1 RNA.

Methods: Longitudinal ultra-deep sequencing (UDS) analysis of reverse transcriptase, protease and V3 Env regions was performed on blood-cell-associated HIV-1 DNA samples. Drug-resistance-associated mutations (DRAMs) and tropism were interpreted using the ANRS and Geno2Pheno algorithms.

A liquid chromatography-MS-MS turbulent flow on-line extraction method was developed for the determination of trimebutine (TMB) and its main active metabolite N-mono-desmethyltrimebutine (nortrimebutine or nor-TMB) in human plasma. After protein precipitation and internal standard (IS, haloperidol-d4) addition, 50 µL of the supernatant were transferred onto a Cyclone-Turbo-Flow extraction column followed by an Hypersil PFP Gold analytical column. Detection was carried out on a triple quadrupole tandem mass spectrometer using positive electrospray ionization.

We aimed to describe blood plasma (BP) and seminal plasma (SP) pharmacokinetics of emtricitabine (FTC) in HIV-1-infected men, assess its penetration in the male genital tract, and evaluate its impact on seminal plasma HIV load (spVL) detection. Men from the EVARIST ANRS EP49 study receiving combined antiretroviral therapy with FTC and with suppressed BP viral load were included in the study. A total of 236 and 209 FTC BP and SP concentrations, respectively, were available.

Preemptive rituximab infusions after remission efficiently prevent relapses in acquired thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura.

In acquired thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (TTP), the persistence of severe ADAMTS13 deficiency (<10%) during remission is associated with more relapse. Preemptive (ie, after remission) administration of rituximab in these patients to prevent relapses remains controversial. We performed a cross-sectional analysis of 12-year follow-up data to compare the relapse incidence with or without preemptive rituximab infusion.

Combined screening for open spina bifida at 11-13 weeks using fetal biparietal diameter and maternal serum markers.

Am J Obstet Gynecol

September 2013

Objective: Screening at 11-13 weeks with ultrasound biparietal diameter (BPD) can detect half of open spina bifida cases. Maternal serum α-fetoprotein (AFP) levels at 15-19 weeks are increased 3- to 4-fold, in open spina bifida. We assessed whether combined screening using BPD, AFP, and other serum markers at 11-13 weeks would increase detection.

Objectives: To analyse immunovirological status during primary HIV-1 infection (PHI) according to contemporary clinical status and time since infection.

Methods: Plasma HIV-RNA and peripheral blood mononuclear cell (PBMC) HIV-DNA levels and CD4 cell counts were determined at enrolment in the ANRS PRIMO cohort. Time since infection was estimated based on both the number of antibodies on western blot at enrolment (0-1, 2-4 or > or =5 specific antibodies) and the estimated interval between infection and enrolment based on clinical and epidemiological features.

MLL insertion with MLL-MLLT3 gene fusion in acute leukemia: case report and review of the literature.

May 2008

Service de cytogénétique, Assistance PubliqueeHôpitaux de Paris, Centre Hospitalier Universitaire Necker-Enfants Malades, 149 rue de Sèvres, 75743, paris Cedex 15, France.

A new chromosomal insertion involving the MLL gene was detected by fluorescence in situ hybridization in a patient with acute myeloblastic leukemia (AML) and a t(9;11)(p21;q13). Genomic polymerase chain reaction confirmed the MLL-MLLT3 gene fusion. A review of the literature on MLL insertions shows that the opposite orientation of the genes involved in the fusion plays a role in the genesis of the rearrangement in most of the cases reported.
