Liver X receptors (LXRs) are key regulators of lipid homeostasis and are involved in multiple testicular functions. The Lxrα(-/-);Lxrβ(-/-) mice have illuminated the roles of both isoforms in maintenance of the epithelium in the seminiferous tubules, spermatogenesis, and T production. The requirement for LXRβ in Sertoli cells have been emphasized by early abnormal cholesteryl ester accumulation in the Lxrβ(-/-) and Lxrα(-/-);Lxrβ(-/-) mice.

Article Synopsis
  • Recent studies indicate that patients with pulmonary metastases from sarcomas may have improved survival through local ablative treatments, particularly for those with one to five lesions.
  • A multicentric retrospective study of sarcoma patients from 2000 to 2012 revealed that those who underwent local treatment had a median survival of 45.3 months compared to 12.6 months for those who did not receive such treatment.
  • The findings suggest that local ablative treatments, including surgery, significantly enhance overall survival rates for patients with oligometastatic sarcomas.

The extended use of brentuximab-vedotin was reported for CD30(+) nonanaplastic peripheral T-cell lymphomas (PTCLs) with promising efficacy. CD30 status assessment is thus a critical factor for therapeutic decision, but the reliability of immunohistochemistry (IHC) in evaluating its expression remains to be defined. This prompted us to investigate the correlation between semiquantitative CD30 protein assessment by IHC and messenger RNA (mRNA) assessment by microarrays in a cohort of 376 noncutaneous PTCLs representative of the main entities.

Purpose: To evaluate the hypothesis that detection of neuroblastoma mRNAs by reverse transcriptase quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RTqPCR) in peripheral blood (PB) and bone marrow aspirates (BM) from children with stage 4 neuroblastoma are clinically useful biomarkers of risk.

Methods: RTqPCR for paired-like homeobox 2b (PHOX2B), tyrosine hydroxylase (TH), and doublecortin (DCX) mRNA in PB and BM of children enrolled onto the High-Risk Neuroblastoma Trial-1 of the European Society of Pediatric Oncology Neuroblastoma Group (HR-NBL1/SIOPEN) was performed at diagnosis and after induction therapy.

Results: High levels of TH, PHOX2B, or DCX mRNA in PB or BM at diagnosis strongly predicted for worse event-free survival (EFS) and overall survival (OS) in a cohort of 290 children.

Department of Rheumatology, Centre Hospitalier Universitaire Clermont-Ferrand, G Montpied Hospital, Place H Dunant, BP 69, 63003 Clermont-Ferrand, France.

The innate and adaptive immune responses contribute to the development of inflammatory myopathies; the innate immune system does so through activation of the type I interferon and Toll-like receptor pathways. Dendritic cells have a pivotal role in the development of both adaptive and innate immune responses. Equipped with a range of pattern-recognition receptors, dendritic cells link innate and adaptive immunity.
