Introduction: Although many studies have underscored the importance of T cells, phenotypically and functionally, fewer have studied the functions of myeloid cells in COVID disease. In particular, the potential role of myeloid cells such as monocytes and low-density neutrophils (LDNs) in innate responses and particular in the defense against secondary bacterial infections has been much less documented.
Methods: Here, we compared, in a longitudinal study, healthy subjects, idiopathic fibrosis patients, COVID patients who were either hospitalized/moderate (M-) or admitted to ICU (COV-ICU) and patients in ICU hospitalized for other reasons (non-COV-ICU).

Background: Vaccine-induced immune thrombotic thrombocytopenia (VITT) is a complication of adenoviral-based vaccine against SARS-CoV-2 due to prothrombotic immunoglobulin (Ig) G antibodies to platelet factor 4 (PF4) and may be difficult to distinguish from heparin-induced thrombocytopenia (HIT) in patients treated with heparin.
Objectives: We assessed the usefulness of competitive anti-PF4 enzyme immunoassays (EIAs) in this context.
Methods: The ability of F(ab')2 fragments of 1E12, 1C12, and 2E1, 3 monoclonal anti-PF4 antibodies, to inhibit the binding of human VITT or HIT antibodies to PF4 was evaluated using EIAs.

Introduction: Weight loss after bariatric surgery causes very important modifications to the patient's silhouette. Abdominal fat and skin excess reduction are associated with several complications. The most frequent are seroma and hematoma whereas major complications, such as pulmonary embolism, are less frequent.

Background: Both AIDS-defining and non-AIDS-defining cancers (ADC/NADC) predispose people living with HIV (PLHIV) to critical illnesses. The objective of this multicentre study was to investigate the prognostic impact of ADC and NADC in PLHIV admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU).
Methods: All PLHIV admitted over the 2015-2020 period in 12 university-affiliated ICUs in France were included in the study cohort.

Drug-resistant tuberculosis (DR-TB) is a major public health concern worldwide. The prolonged isolation required is a source of challenges for both healthcare workers and patients, especially in high-income countries where DR-TB patients are frequently migrants with vulnerabilities. However, data on the needs of these vulnerable patients are scarce.

Purpose Of Review: Managing antimicrobial therapy in patients with complicated skin and soft tissue infections (SSTI) constitutes a growing challenge due to the wide spectrum of potential pathogens and resistance phenotypes. Today, microbiological documentation relies on cultural methods. This review summarizes the available evidence regarding the clinical input of rapid microbiological diagnostic tools (RMDT) and their impact on the management of antimicrobial therapy in SSTI.

Fournier's gangrene is a necrotizing soft tissue infection of the genital, perineal, and perirectal areas. A primary isolated involvement of the penis is rare, but it can be affected in some circumstances. The purpose of this case series is to present the findings of our thirteen years' experience in the reconstruction of the penis in Fournier's gangrene and our full-thickness grafting technique to cover the penis rod.

Background: Fournier's gangrene is a rare form of necrotizing fasciitis that affects the genital area up to the perineal region and sometimes the abdominal wall.
Objectives: Our article aims to show that in the treatment of extensive forms of Fournier's gangrene, correct use of flap and skin grafts and a quick reconstruction of the exposed tissues avoid scarring retraction of the testicles and deformation of the penis.
Materials And Methods: We retrospectively reviewed the clinical and photographic data of Fournier's gangrene cases treated at our Institute.
Anaplastic large cell lymphomas (ALCL) are a rare type of primary breast lymphoma. The association between breast implants and ALCL was first described in 1997. Breast implant associated (BIA)-ALCL arises from the inflammatory T cells surrounding the fibrous capsule, and most tumors are .

Method: Retrospective observational monocentric study of all patients treated by MUS section or removal, between December 2005 and October 2019, in a pelviperineology centre.
Results: During this study, 96 patients were included.

Study Objectives: First, to determine whether the 3-item Observation and Interview-based Diurnal Sleepiness Inventory (ODSI) measures the degree of excessive daytime sleepiness in patients with suspected narcolepsy or idiopathic hypersomnia (IH). Second, to assess the correlation between the ODSI and the Epworth Sleepiness Scale (ESS) as well as objective polysomnographic measurements. Third, to test the accuracy of the ODSI to detect narcolepsy or IH (narcolepsy/IH) compared with the ESS.

Background: Acute kidney injury (AKI) is associated with increased short-term and long-term mortality and morbidity after lung transplantation (LT). The primary objective of this study was to analyze the perioperative factors associated with AKI according to Kidney Disease: Improving Global Outcome (KDIGO) criteria during hospitalization in an intensive care unit (ICU) after LT.
Methods: This was a single-center, observational, prospective study.

Background: Fungus-positive respiratory samples (FPRS) are common in the intensive Care unit (ICU) and are usually considered to correspond to colonization. The management of FPRS during the early postoperative course after lung transplantation (LT) remains unclear. The epidemiology, clinical consequences, and prognosis of FPRS were assessed in LT recipients.

Background: Tattooing is a widespread phenomenon, with an estimated prevalence of 10-30% in Western populations. For psoriasis patients, current recommendations are to avoid having a tattoo if the disease is active and they are receiving immunosuppressive treatments. Although scientific data supporting these recommendations are lacking, dermatologists are often reluctant to advocate tattooing in psoriasis patients.

Establishing rules regarding the organisation of work with patients means taking into account ethical and moral questions. This joint approach requires the free and engaged cooperation of all those involved. The improvement of the quality of care, far from any standardisation or rationalisation, means keeping a place as a subject for the patient as well as the professional.

The choice of revascularization of coronary patients, if it is well codified in the general population, remains in the elderly subject a daily dilemma for the clinician. We report 4 clinical cases (80 years and over) elective for coronary artery bypass or percutaneous coronary transluminal angioplasty (PTCA). No randomized studies dedicated to this population are available.

Background: Anti-synthetase (AS) and dermato-pulmonary associated with anti-MDA-5 antibodies (aMDA-5) syndromes are near one of the other autoimmune inflammatory myopathies potentially responsible for severe acute interstitial lung disease. We undertook a 13-year retrospective multicenter study in 35 French ICUs in order to describe the clinical presentation and the outcome of patients admitted to the ICU for acute respiratory failure (ARF) revealing AS or aMDA-5 syndromes.
Results: From 2005 to 2017, 47 patients (23 males; median age 60 [1st-3rd quartiles 52-69] years, no comorbidity 85%) were admitted to the ICU for ARF revealing AS (n = 28, 60%) or aMDA-5 (n = 19, 40%) syndromes.

Ectasias and coronary aneurysms are uncommon coronary artery diseases, can coexist and are poorly known. Their principal etiology in adults is coronary atherosclerosis. It has been suggested that these abnormalities would have poor prognosis and that slow flow could lead to in situ thrombosis and distal embolisation.
