Amoxicillin, cefotaxime, ceftriaxone, gentamicin, doxycycline, and ofloxacin were active in vitro, like the reference drug streptomycin, against the virulent strain Yersinia pestis 6/69M. The comparative efficacies of these drugs in vivo were evaluated in a standardized and reproducible mouse model of systemic infection. Each antibiotic was injected intravenously once, at 24 h postinfection, and then repeatedly during 48 h.

The authors report a case of Peutz-Jeghers syndrome in a young patient revealed by a duodenal carcinoma developed in a hamartomatous polyp. The absence of adenomatous lesion a the level of duodenal tumour, and the presence of hamartomatous lesions, particularly smooth muscular fibres, contiguous to carcinomatous glands, are favorable to a degenerescence of hamartomatous polyp. The question of malignant change or of the association of digestive carcinomas is discussed.

Apart from the usual predisposing factors, the amebic graft must be especially emphasized, at least in those countries where the parasite is endemic. Entamoeba histolytica was consistently identified in 19 cases of the severe form that we found out of a total of 126 cases of ulcerative colitis.

As demonstrated by microbiological assays, a decrease in the active minocycline level occurs in spent media from each Escherichia coli K12 recipient containing one of 10 different plasmids bearing tetB determinants. No such decrease was detected when tetA, C, D or E determinants were tested under the same conditions. Likewise, no decrease in tetracycline or doxycycline levels was detected when 20 plasmids bearing tetA to E determinants were tested.

Twenty-five consecutive patients with previously untreated stage III (18) and IV (7) epithelial ovarian carcinoma underwent maximum surgical tumor reduction followed by cyclophosphamide, cisplatinum, and bleomycin chemotherapy, given 5 days every 3 weeks for a total of 6-8 courses. Patients were then submitted to second-look surgery, and complete responders to a 1-year additional chemotherapy with L phenylalanine mustard and hexamethylmelamine. The median survival is 23 months for the whole group, and 31+ months for 13 patients found in microscopically assessed complete remission (CR) at the time of second-look surgery.
