Schizophrenia patients in both France and Japan were less accurate in labeling fearful facial expressions. There was no correlation between the scores of facial emotion labeling and face matching.

Background: Early improvement in positive emotions-more than decreases in negative emotions-was highly predictive of treatment response in an ecologically valid prospective manner. This result needs replication with simpler assessments to determine whether it can be translated into clinical practice.
Methods: 2049 adult depressed outpatients receiving agomelatine were assessed at inclusion, week 2, and week 6 using the clinician-rated Quick Inventory of Depressive Symptomatology, Sheehan Disability Scale, Clinical Global Impression scale, and Multidimensional Assessment of Thymic States (MATHYS), an auto-questionnaire rating the frequency of emotions, including sadness and joy, over the previous week.

View Article and Find Full Text PDFCare has recently become a topical subject namely through the notion of care. We are quite happy with this evolution and still wonder about the reasons for this sudden interest for this essential human activity that goes back to the dawn of time. Beyond this debate, we propose to understand why care, as an essential form of response to the vulnerability of the others is necessarily in tension between three unsubstitutable elements : technics, relation and justice.

From our research and literature search we propose an understanding of the mechanism of action of antidepressants treatments (ADTs) that should lead to increase efficacy and tolerance. We understand that ADTs promote synaptic plasticity and neurogenesis. This promotion is linked with stimulation of dopaminergic receptors.

Objective: Some studies have found that high levels of impulsivity and sensation seeking, particularly disinhibition are associated with substance abuse in patients with schizophrenia, as in the general population. However, no study has assessed impulsivity and sensation seeking specifically in schizophrenia patients with alcohol abuse or dependence.
Materials And Methods: We compared impulsivity and sensation seeking in a group of schizophrenia patients (DSM-III-R criteria) with lifetime alcohol abuse or dependence (n = 34) and in a group without lifetime substance abuse or dependence (n = 66).
