[Ilizarov method used for the sequela of growth cartilage lesions].

Acta Orthop Belg

October 1993

Université Catholique de Lille, Service de Chirurgie Orthopédique et de Traumatologie, Centre Hospitalier Saint Philibert, Lomme, France.

Ilizarov distraction osteogenesis is a good way to correct sequelae of growth plate injury after completion of the growth. There is often both limb length discrepancy and angular deformation in varus, valgus, flexum, and recurvatum after surgery or trauma in childhood. Such deformations of the distal femoral growth plate, both proximal and distal tibial and distal radial will be presented, treated by a one-step Ilizarov method.

Single ventricular stimulation induces haemodynamic disturbances, the best known of which is the pacemaker syndrome. In order to assess the prevalence and severity of these abnormalities, invasive blood pressure monitoring was performed in 396 consecutive patients undergoing endocavitary electrophysiological investigations: a decrease in systolic blood pressure at a rate near to that of the spontaneous rhythm defines the pacemaker syndrome. It is maximal after 3 to 5 beats of equivalent intensity with or without retrograde conduction.

Hare-lips and cleft palates are the most frequent manifestations of facial malformations (approximately 1 in 1,000 deliveries). The authors point out their technique for ultrasound assessment of the normal and pathological fetal face in the antenatal period. The antenatal examination gives an excellent diagnostic approach of the site and the nature and the extent of the abnormality.
