We previously demonstrated that a reduced-intensity chemotherapy schedule can safely replace hyper-CVAD (cyclophosphamide-vincristine-doxorubicin [Adriamycin]-dexamethasone) cycle 1 when combined with imatinib in adults with Philadelphia-positive acute lymphoblastic leukemia. In the present randomized GRAAPH-2014 trial, we used nilotinib and addressed the omission of cytarabine (Ara-C) in consolidation. The primary objective was the major molecular response (MMR) rate measured by BCR::ABL1 quantification after cycle 4 (end of consolidation).

Chronic and excessive alcohol consumption can result in alcohol use disorder (AUD) without neurological complications and in Korsakoff's syndrome (KS) when combined with thiamine deficiency. These two clinical forms are accompanied by widespread structural brain damage in both the fronto-cerebellar (FCC) and Papez circuits (PC) as well as in the parietal cortex, resulting in cognitive and motor deficits. BEARNI is a screening tool especially designed to detect neuropsychological impairments in AUD.

Resurgence of myeloproliferative neoplasm in patients in remission from blast transformation after treatment with hypomethylating agents.

Subsequent blast (BP) or accelerated phase (AP) is a severe complication of Philadelphia-negative myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPNs). The prognosis is generally dismal, but hypomethylating agents (HMAs) may induce a long-lasting response in a minority of patients. Here, we report a cohort of six patients with BP/AP-MPN who experienced MPN relapse after a leukemia response was obtained with azacytidine.

Early Identification of Alcohol Use Disorder Patients at Risk of Developing Korsakoff's Syndrome.

Background: The aim of the present study was to determine whether the Brief Evaluation of Alcohol-Related Neuropsychological Impairments (BEARNI), a screening tool developed to identify neuropsychological deficits in alcohol use disorder (AUD) patients, can also be used for the early identification of AUD patients at risk of developing Korsakoff's syndrome (KS).

Methods: Eighteen KS patients, 47 AUD patients and 27 healthy controls underwent BEARNI testing (including 5 subtests targeting episodic memory, working memory, executive function, visuospatial abilities, and ataxia) and a comprehensive neuropsychological examination.

Results: Performance of AUD and KS patients on BEARNI subtests was consistent with the results on the standardized neuropsychological assessment.

Dissociating thalamic alterations in alcohol use disorder defines specificity of Korsakoff's syndrome.

The thalamus, a relay organ consisting of several nuclei, is shared between the frontocerebellar circuit and the Papez circuit, both particularly affected in alcohol use disorder. Shrinkage of the thalamus is known to be more severe in alcoholics with Korsakoff's syndrome than in those without neurological complications (uncomplicated alcoholics). While thalamic atrophy could thus be a key factor explaining amnesia in Korsakoff's syndrome, the loci and nature of alterations within the thalamic nuclei in uncomplicated alcoholics and alcoholics with Korsakoff's syndrome remains unclear.

Trimethoprim susceptibility in E. coli community-acquired urinary tract infections in France.

[Information and consent forms for hematopoietic stem cell transplantation donors and recipients: Guidelines from the Franchophone society of bone marrow transplantation and cellular therapy (SFGM-TC)].

Within the context of the SFGM-TC's 6th workshop series on the harmonization of clinical practices, our workshop proposes a standardization of the informed consent process for hematopoietic stem cell donors and recipients leading up to an autologous or allogenic transplantation. All informed consent was for bone marrow or peripheral stem cell donors, and mononuclear/lymphocyte donors according to usual procedures. The informed consent for autologous and allogenic related or unrelated adults and pediatric transplantation patients have been included.

Rapid containment of coincident outbreaks with 2 carbapenem-resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae strains in an intensive care unit.

In our intensive care unit, coincident outbreaks were caused by concomitant cross-transmission of 2 carbapenem-resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae strains harboring distinct mechanisms of resistance. One strain produced extended-spectrum ß-lactamase in combination with reduced permeability. The other produced oxacillinase-48 carbapenemase.
