We investigated the shape of the relationship between longitudinal uric acid (UA) and the hazard of kidney failure and death in chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients, and attempted to identify thresholds associated with increased hazards. We included CKD stage 3-5 patients from the CKD-REIN cohort with one serum UA measurement at cohort entry. We used cause-specific multivariate Cox models including a spline function of current values of UA (cUA), estimated from a separate linear mixed model.

Innovative Therapies in Haemostasis, Inserm, université Paris Cité, 75006 Paris, France; Department of Haematology and Biosurgical Research Laboratory (Carpentier Foundation), hôpital européen Georges-Pompidou, AP-HP, AP-HP.CUP, Inserm UMR-S1140, 20, rue Leblanc, 75015 Paris, France. Electronic address:

Article Synopsis
  • The study examines the role of platelet activation in influencing mortality rates in COVID-19 patients by analyzing two patient cohorts for blood biomarkers related to platelet activity.
  • In cohort A of 208 patients, higher levels of soluble platelet biomarkers were noted in critical patients, linking them to increased in-hospital mortality; however, this association was not significant when adjusting for coagulopathy indicators.
  • Results from cohort B, which included nearly 2900 patients, indicated that prior use of antiplatelet medications did not significantly affect mortality outcomes, suggesting that coagulopathy may be a more critical factor in the progression of COVID-19.

Background: Periprocedural antithrombotic treatment is a key determinant for the risk-benefit balance of emergent carotid artery stenting (eCAS) during stroke thrombectomy. We aimed to assess the safety and efficacy of three types of antithrombotic treatment.

Methods: Retrospective review of prospectively collected endovascular databases in four comprehensive stroke centers, including consecutive cases of eCAS for tandem lesion strokes between January 2019 and July 2021.

Purpose: To identify dosimetric predictive factors of facial nerve paralysis for patients with vestibular schwannomas (VS) treated in a single institution with Cyberknife® (CK) hypofractionated stereotactic radiotherapy (SRT).

Methods And Materials: Eighty-eight patients were treated from 2010 to 2020. Different treatment schedules were used over that period, some prescribed to the 80% isodose line (4 × 5 Gy, 3 × 7 Gy, 3 × 8 Gy and 5 × 5 Gy) and one to the 70% isodose line (3 × 7.

Objective: The role of endovascular mechanical thrombectomy (MT) in patients presenting with "minor" stroke is uncertain. We aimed to compare outcomes after MT for ischemic stroke patients presenting with National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) 5 and - within the low NIHSS cohort - identify predictors of a favorable outcome, mortality, and symptomatic intracranial hemorrhage (ICH).

Methods: We retrospectively analyzed a prospectively maintained, international, multicenter database.

November 2022

Imagerie Adaptative Diagnostique et Interventionnelle, Institut National de la Santé et de la Recherche Médicale U1254, Université de Lorraine, F-54000 Nancy, France.

Purpose: This study aims to investigate the effects of applying the point spread function deconvolution (PSFd) to the radiomics analysis of dynamic L-3,4-dihydroxy-6-[18F]-fluoro-phenyl-alanine (18F-FDOPA) positron emission tomography (PET) images, to non-invasively identify isocitrate dehydrogenase (IDH) mutated and/or 1p/19q codeleted gliomas. Methods: Fifty-seven newly diagnosed glioma patients underwent dynamic 18F-FDOPA imaging on the same digital PET system. All images were reconstructed with and without PSFd.

The impact of regular cannabis use on retinal function has already been studied using flash (fERG) and pattern (PERG) electroretinogram. Delayed ganglion and bipolar cells responses were observed as showed by increased peak time of PERG N95 and fERG b-wave recorded in photopic condition. Hypoactivity of amacrine cells was also showed by decreased amplitudes of oscillatory potentials (OPs).

Since the emergence of the Omicron variant of SARS-CoV-2, though considered less virulent, hospitalization and death rates among immunocompromised patients remain high, especially for poor responders to vaccination. We conducted a retrospective multicentric study to evaluate pre-exposure prophylaxis with AZD7442 (tixagevimab/cilgavimab) for preventing COVID-19 in adult allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplant (allo-HSCT) recipients. Among the 161 patients of our cohort, 22 (14%) contracted COVID-19 after a median follow-up of 105 days, but no severe form was observed.

Positioning an infant in a physiological way is not trivial, even more so when it is born prematurely. To promote development, a posture that allows self-regulation and vegetative stability is essential. Particular attention must be paid to good positioning throughout the hospitalization in neonatal services, whether during or outside of care, during skin-to-skin sessions or in babywearing.

Despite years of clinical progress which made Hodgkin lymphoma (HL) one of the most curable malignancies with conventional chemotherapy, refractoriness and recurrence may still affect up to 20-30% of patients. The revolution brought by the advent of immunotherapy in all kinds of neoplastic disorders is more than evident in this disease because anti-CD30 antibodies and checkpoint inhibitors have been able to rescue patients previously remaining without therapeutic options. Autologous hematopoietic cell transplantation still represents a significant step in the treatment algorithm for chemosensitive HL; however, the possibility to induce complete responses after allogeneic transplant procedures in patients receiving reduced-intensity conditioning regimens informs on its sensitivity to immunological control.

Article Synopsis
  • Primary Ovarian Insufficiency (POI) affects 1-3.7% of women under 40, leading to issues like infertility and reduced lifespan, with many causes remaining unidentified; recent studies are exploring genetic links to POI through a large cohort of patients.* -
  • The research included 375 patients and uncovered a 29.3% success rate for clinical genetic diagnosis of POI, discovering new pathogenic genes and pathways previously unlinked to POI, while confirming the role of several known genes associated with cancer susceptibility and other genetic disorders.* -
  • This genetic understanding enables personalized medicine approaches, which aim to prevent or treat related health issues, predict ovarian reserve, and identify candidates for innovative therapies like in vitro
