Radiotherapy of non-tumoral refractory neurological pathologies.

Intracranial radiotherapy has been improved, primarily because of the development of stereotactic approaches. While intracranial stereotactic body radiotherapy is mainly indicated for treatment of benign or malignant tumors, this procedure is also effective in the management of other neurological pathologies; it is delivered using GammaKnife® and linear accelerators. Thus, brain arteriovenous malformations in patients who are likely to experience permanent neurological sequelae can be managed by single session intracranial stereotactic body radiotherapy, or radiosurgery, in specific situations, with an advantageous benefit/risk ratio.

Chitosan/Polycyclodextrin (CHT/PCD)-Based Sponges Delivering VEGF to Enhance Angiogenesis for Bone Regeneration.

Vascularization is one of the main challenges in bone tissue engineering (BTE). In this study, vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), known for its angiogenic effect, was delivered by our developed sponge, derived from a polyelectrolyte complexes hydrogel between chitosan (CHT) and cyclodextrin polymer (PCD). This sponge, as a scaffold for growth factor delivery, was formed by freeze-drying a homogeneous CHT/PCD hydrogel, and thereafter stabilized by a thermal treatment.

Influence of Geometry and Extent of Coating on Survival of Cementless Distal-Locking Revision Stems at 7 to 18 Years.

Background: We aimed to compare the long-term clinical outcomes, complications, and survival of 2 revision stems with different geometries, extents of coating, and distal-locking mechanisms.

Methods: We retrospectively compared outcomes at a minimum of 7 years following revision THA using 2 proximally coated distal-locking stems: 98 Ultime first-generation (G1) and 116 Linea second-generation (G2) stems. Ten-year Kaplan-Meier survival was assessed considering stem re-revision for any reason and for aseptic reasons.

Purpose Of Review: Surgical mitral valve repair is considered superior to replacement to treat primary mitral regurgitation. However, the heterogeneity of cohorts and the lack of consideration of confounding in the published literature raise potential biases. The purpose of this review is to describe how a curriculum for minimally invasive spine surgery (MISS) was developed and implemented. The authors discuss the curriculum roadmap, its target audience, and the educational process for teaching general skills and specific procedures in MISS. Objective: To describe the course over time of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection in French women from the beginning of the pandemic until mid-April, the risk profile of women with respiratory complications, and short-term pregnancy outcomes.

Methods: We collected a case series of pregnant women with COVID-19 in a research network of 33 French maternity units between March 1 and April 14, 2020. All cases of SARS-CoV-2 infection confirmed by a positive result on real-time reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction tests of a nasal sample and/or diagnosed by a computed tomography chest scan were included and analyzed.

Clinical Implications of Vertebral Endplate Disruptions After Lumbar Discectomy: 3-Year Results from a Randomized Trial of a Bone-Anchored Annular Closure Device.

Objective: Vertebral endplate disruptions (VEPD) are common findings on imaging after lumbar surgery. The objective of this study was to explore the clinical implications of VEPD development following lumbar discectomy with or without implant with a bone-anchored annular closure device (ACD).

Methods: This was a multicenter randomized controlled trial of patients with large postsurgical annular defects after limited lumbar discectomy who were randomized to additionally receive an ACD or no additional treatment.

CA-125 ELIMination Rate Constant K (KELIM) Is a Marker of Chemosensitivity in Patients with Ovarian Cancer: Results from the Phase II CHIVA Trial.

Purpose: In patients with ovarian cancer receiving neoadjuvant chemotherapy, the first-line treatment success will depend on both the tumor-primary chemosensitivity and the completeness of interval debulking surgery (IDS). The modeled CA-125 ELIMination rate constant K (KELIM), calculated with the CA-125 longitudinal kinetics during the first 100 chemotherapy days, is a validated early marker of tumor chemosensitivity. The objective was to investigate the role of the chemosensitivity relative to the success of first-line medical-surgical treatment.

Fragility fractures in France: epidemiology, characteristics and quality of life (the EPIFRACT study).

Unlabelled: Between 1 and 2% of people aged 50 years and over living at home in France are likely to experience a fragility fracture each year. Three-quarters of these individuals are not diagnosed with osteoporosis and lose the opportunity for appropriate care.

The inclusion of familial myeloid malignancies as a separate disease entity in the revised WHO classification has renewed efforts to improve the recognition and management of this group of at risk individuals. Here we report a cohort of 86 acute myeloid leukemia (AML) and myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) families with 49 harboring germline variants in 16 previously defined loci (57%). Whole exome sequencing in a further 37 uncharacterized families (43%) allowed us to rationalize 65 new candidate loci, including genes mutated in rare hematological syndromes (ADA, GP6, IL17RA, PRF1 and SEC23B), reported in prior MDS/AML or inherited bone marrow failure series (DNAH9, NAPRT1 and SH2B3) or variants at novel loci (DHX34) that appear specific to inherited forms of myeloid malignancies.

Giant perivascular spaces (PVS) are rare, CSF-filled, dilated cavities lined by the pia mater that are most often asymptomatic radiological findings but can sometimes cause neurological symptoms. We present two exceptional cases of secondary focal dystonia induced by the mass effect on the basal ganglia caused by giant diencephalic PVSs. In both cases, we chose a surgical stereotactic drainage approach as a treatment strategy that allowed controlling the movement disorders.

Description of a transient proximal tubulopathy induced by amino acids perfusion in peptide receptor radionuclide therapy: A case report.
