Purpose: Acute mesenteric ischemia (AMI) is a rare, but life-threatening condition occurring among critically ill patients. Several factors have been associated with AMI, but the causal link is debated, most studies being retrospective. Among these factors, enteral nutrition (EN) could be associated with AMI, in particular among patients with shock.

USAID Associated with Myeloid Neoplasm and VEXAS Syndrome: Two Differential Diagnoses of Suspected Adult Onset Still's Disease in Elderly Patients.

Background: Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is a spectrum of diseases including steatosis, nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH), cirrhosis, and end-stage liver failure. Hepatic iron accumulation has been linked to hepatic fibrosis severity in NASH and NAFLD. Iron overload induced by parenteral (IV) iron therapy is a potential clinical problem in dialysis patients.

A rare cause of abdominal pain: Fibromuscular dysplasia.

A 50-year-old man had a sudden severe abdominal pain. An abdominal enhanced computed tomographic scan revealed irregular stenosis of the celiac artery, dissection of the hepatic artery and of the left common iliac artery, and mid stenosis of the right renal artery with extended renal parenchymal hypodensity. After careful evaluation, the patient was diagnosed with fibromuscular dysplasia.

Trends in work-related mental disorders by sector in France.

Background: Notifications of work-related mental disorders (WRMDs) are increasing while little data are available on trends by industrial sector.

Aims: To assess WRMD notifications and trends from 2001 to 2011 by industrial sector using data collected by the French National Network for Occupational Disease Vigilance and Prevention (RNV3P) network.

Methods: We calculated standardized notification ratios (SNRs) per sector.

Hypothermia in trauma victims at first arrival of ambulance personnel: an observational study with assessment of risk factors.

Background: Hypothermia is common in trauma victims and is associated with increased mortality, however its causes are little known. The objective of this study was to identify the risk factors associated with hypothermia in prehospital management of trauma victims.

Methods: This was an ancillary analysis of data recorded in the HypoTraum study, a prospective multicenter study conducted by the emergency medical services (EMS) of 8 hospitals in France.

Control of chemotherapies preparations are now an obligation in France, though analytical control is compulsory. Several methods are available and none of them is presumed as ideal. We wanted to compare them so as to determine which one could be the best choice.

[State of dementia due to intermittent acute porphyria: a case report].

Introduction: Porphyrias are rare inherited disorders due to specific enzyme abnormalities of heme biosynthesis. We can classify them as hepatic or erythropoïetic, the type depends on the organ in which the enzyme is deficient. Among the hepatic forms, three of them are clinically characterised by acute abdominal pain and neuropathy, sometimes associated with psychiatric disorders.

[Diagnosis of phenylketonuria in a 35-year-old mother in relation to prenatal diagnosis of intrauterine growth retardation with microcephaly].

Background: Some French pregnant women with phenylketonuria (PKU), born before 1978, have not been tested with the Guthrie method during the neonatal period. They have a risk of spontaneous abortion and their infants are often mentally retarded with microcephaly and/or congenital heart anomaly.

Corynebacterium diphtheriae septicaemia is rarely encountered, usually in very particular situations: children with severe congenital heart disease or after heart surgery. Rare cases have been reported in immunodepressed adults or drug addicts. We observed a case in a formerly healthy 41-year-old woman who was hospitalized for fever unresponsive to bacampicillin.

[Ovarian vein syndrome. Apropos of a case].

The ovarian vein syndrome is due to ureteral compression caused by a dilated ovarian vein. The authors describe the clinical case of a young ten-week pregnant woman in whom the ovarian vein syndrome was revealed by a pain in the lower right quadrant of the abdomen associated with fever. Excretory urography, retrograde uretero pyelography and computed tomographic examination were performed.

[Revision intranasal sphenoethmoidectomy in recurrent nasosinusal diseases especially polyposis].

A 16 case series of intranasal revision sphenoidecthmoidectomies is presented in this study concerning 10 patients with recurrent polyposis after 245 intranasal ethmoidectomies performed between 1986 and 1990 (6.5%). The modalities of surgical decision are precisely described, pointing out the correlation between clinic and endoscopic arguments.

A case of a tumor of the urinary tract discovered after renal trauma is reported. The clinical and radiolocal observations are presented as well as the interest of this case in forensic medicine. A review of the legal aspects recalls the principles of imputability in cases of cancer and trauma.

[Vascular and nervous lesion and opening of the capsule in the last stage of dislocation of the elbow. A case report].

The authors describes a case of posterior dislocation of the elbow in the extreme stage, associating total destruction of the capsule and ligaments, a total arterial lesion, elongation of the median nerve and the opening of the focus at Tscherne's stage III. This case allows considering the biomechanical aspects of dislocation of the elbow and updating the principles of its management.
