Currently, the guidelines for audiological and vestibular follow-up in children with congenital cytomegalovirus (CMV) are not well-defined. The general recommendation is to evaluate hearing in all children with congenital CMV at the same intervals: once every 3-6 months up to 1 year of age, once every 6 months from 1 to 3 years of age, and once a year from 3 to 6 years of age. Additionally, there are no universally accepted protocols for the vestibular follow-up of children with congenital CMV, although video head impulse test (v-HIT) and cervical vestibular-evoked myogenic potentials (cVEMPs) are sometimes used.

Context: Gastric and oesophageal cancers are common. They are also expected to increase in incidence in the next few years and are characterized by poor prognosis. Surprisingly, whereas the incidence of severe anxiety and depression is high in patients with gastric and oesophageal cancers, the influence of symptoms of depression and anxiety on postoperative complications has barely been explored.

During a fatal disease, patients often request updated information on their prognosis. After patients have already survived a certain time, conditional survival captures their future survival probability. We investigated conditional overall and failure-free survival in 473 younger mantle cell lymphoma (MCL) patients from a randomized phase III trial comparing immunochemotherapies R-CHOP and alternating R-CHOP/R-DHAP before autologous transplantation.

Despite the growing evidence supporting the existence of CNS involvement in acute and chronic graft-versus-host disease (CNS-GvHD), the characteristics and course of the disease are still largely unknown. In this multicenter retrospective study, we analyzed the clinical, biological, radiological, and histopathological characteristics, as well as the clinical course of 66 patients diagnosed with possible CNS-GvHD (pCNS-GvHD), selected by predetermined diagnostic criteria. Results were then contrasted depending on whether pCNS-GvHD occurred before or after day 100 following allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation.

Endogenous retroelements (EREs), which comprise half of the human genome, play a pivotal role in genome dynamics. Some EREs retained the ability to encode proteins, although most degenerated or served as a source for novel genes and regulatory elements during evolution. Despite ERE repression mechanisms developed to maintain genome stability, widespread pervasive ERE activation is observed in cancer including hematological malignancies.

Background: Bone metastasis is a significant concern in advanced solid tumors, contributing to diminished patient survival and quality of life due to skeletal-related events (SREs). Denosumab (DMAB), a monoclonal antibody targeting the receptor activator of nuclear factor kappa-B ligand (RANKL), is used to prevent SREs in such cases. The RANK/RANKL axis, crucial in immunological processes, has garnered attention, especially with the expanding use of immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICI) in modern oncology.

Background: While SARS-CoV2 infection has been shown to be a significant risk-factor for several secondary bacterial, viral and Aspergillus infections, its impact on intensive care unit (ICU)-acquired candidemia (ICAC) remains poorly explored.
Method: Using the REA-REZO network (French surveillance network of ICU-acquired infections), we included all adult patients hospitalized for a medical reason of admission in participating ICUs for at least 48 h from January 2020 to January 2023. To account for confounders, a non-parsimonious propensity score matching was performed.

Purpose: We aim to evaluate the association between central venous catheter (CVC) insertion site and microbiological CVC complications in a nationwide cohort.
Methods: This study was conducted using the healthcare-associated infection surveillance cohort "REA-REZO" involving 193 intensive care units (ICUs). All CVC inserted and removed during the same ICU stay between January 1st 2018 and December 31st 2022 were eligible but only those whose tips were sent for microbiological analysis were included.

Background: The phase III PRIMA/ENGOT-OV26/GOG-3012 trial met its primary endpoint. Niraparib first-line maintenance significantly prolonged progression-free survival (PFS) among patients with newly diagnosed advanced ovarian cancer that responded to first-line platinum-based chemotherapy, regardless of homologous recombination deficiency (HRD) status. Final overall survival (OS) results are reported.

Background And Aim: In this report from Phase 1 of the prospective, observational, PRECINCT (Pattern of peritoneal dissemination and REsponse to systemic Chemotherapy IN Common and uncommon peritoneal Tumours) study, a correlation was performed between the radiological PCI (peritoneal cancer index; rPCI) and surgical PCI (sPCI). The impact of timing of peritoneal malignancy (PM) and previous abdominal surgery was also studied.
Methods: The rPCI and sPCI were considered the 'same' if they differed by ≤ 3 points.

Background: Hip fractures carry a substantial risk of complications and death. This study aimed to report the 90-day incidence of mortality, major perioperative complications and in-hospital timelines after a hip fracture in the Spanish HIP ATTACK-1 trial cohort, comparing with the non-Spanish cohort.
Methods: Prospective cohort study of Spanish patients nested in the HIP ATTACK-1 trial.
