Anti-N-Methyl-d-Aspartate Receptor Encephalitis in Adult Patients Requiring Intensive Care.

Rationale: Encephalitis caused by anti-N-methyl-d-aspartate receptor (NMDAR) antibodies is the leading cause of immune-mediated encephalitis. There are limited data on intensive care unit (ICU) management of these patients.

Objectives: To identify prognostic factors of good neurologic outcome in patients admitted to an ICU with anti-NMDAR encephalitis.

Development of a French version of the Endometriosis Health Profile 5 (EHP-5): cross-cultural adaptation and psychometric evaluation.

Purpose: The Endometriosis Health Profile 5 (EHP-5) is a short version of an endometriosis-specific quality of life questionnaire. The objective of the study was to assess the psychometric validity of its French version.

Methods: A total of 125 patients with histologically proven endometriosis who underwent surgery for painful symptoms and 80 asymptomatic controls completed the EHP-5.

Aneuploidy: the impact of chromosome imbalance on nuclear organization and overall genome expression.

The organization and dynamics of chromatin within the interphase nucleus as chromosome territories (CTs) and the relationship with transcriptional regulation are not fully understood. We studied a natural example of chromosomal disorganization: aneuploidy due to trisomies 13, 18 and 21. We hypothesized that the presence of an extra copy of one chromosome alters the CT distribution, which perturbs transcriptional activity.

Objectives: The aim of this study was to evaluate the obstetrical ultrasound simulator as an initiation tool for teaching obstetrical ultrasound scanning for beginners.

Methods: Twenty medical students with no experience in ultrasound scan (US) received a basic theoretical ultrasonography course on US principles and 2nd trimester biometrical measurements. The participants were then divided into 2 groups (A, B).

Cultural adaptation of the female pelvic floor questionnaire (FPFQ) into French.

Aims: The Female pelvic floor questionnaire (FPFQ) is a self-administered tool on pelvic floor function. Our aim was to carry out a cultural adaptation of the FPFQ into French and to assess its psychometric properties.

Methods: After cross-cultural adaptation into French, acceptability and reliability of the questionnaire were assessed through a sample of 56 women in a test-retest.

We report a rare case of recurrent trisomy 21 caused by an isochromosome 21q and what is very likely to be maternal germ-line cell mosaicism. Over 90% of cases of rob(21;21) reported in the literature are due to an isochromosome 21q, with a risk of recurrence of more than 10%.

Bladder symptoms and urodynamic observations of patients with endometriosis confirmed by laparoscopy.

Introduction And Hypothesis: Patients with deep infiltrating pelvic endometriosis (DIE) often describe having lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS). Bladder pain syndrome in women is also often associated with endometriosis. In this study, we aimed to describe the characteristics of LUTS and urodynamic observations in patients with posterior endometriosis versus those with posterior and anterior endometriosis.

Management of varicella-zoster virus primary infection during pregnancy: A national survey of practice.

Background: Varicella (VZV) infection in pregnancy can result in serious outcomes: maternal pneumoniae irrespective of the term of pregnancy, and lead to congenital varicella syndrome before 18 weeks of gestation and neonatal varicella. There are between 350 and 500 cases a year in France. Until now, there have been no scientific obstetrical guidelines for clinical practice in France for VZV infection during pregnancy.

Short-term spontaneous fluctuations of HBV DNA levels in a Senegalese population with chronic hepatitis B.

Background: We evaluated the short-term spontaneous fluctuations of HBV DNA and HBsAg levels in Senegalese patients with chronic infection with hepatitis B virus and normal ALT and determined factors related to these fluctuations.

Method: A total of 87 patients with persistent normal ALT values were enrolled in the study. Serum samples were obtained at three different visits, with an interval of 2 months (M0, M2, and M4), and without initiating anti HBV treatment.

Few studies have examined the occurrence of minimal change nephrotic syndrome (MCNS) in patients with non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL). We report here a series of 18 patients with MCNS occurring among 13,992 new cases of NHL. We analyzed the clinical and pathologic characteristics of this association, along with the response of patients to treatment, to determine if this association relies on a particular disorder.

[Use of glue in laparoscopic sacrocolpopexy. A comparative study about 32 cases].

Aim: To study the impact of the use of glue instead of some laparoscopic sutures, on the operative time, the morbidity, and the short-term anatomical and functional results in the laparoscopic sacrocolpopexy (LSCP).

Patients And Methods: Thirty-two patients underwent a LSCP at Poissy-St-Germain-en-Laye University Hospital. The fixation of prostheses was made either exclusively by sutures (Group S), or by associating sutures (on traction sites) and biological glue (GroupC).

Ambulatory haemorrhoidal surgery: systematic literature review and qualitative analysis.

Purpose: The aims of this study are to review the advantages and drawbacks of the ambulatory management of patients scheduled for haemorrhoidal surgery and to highlight the reasons for unplanned hospital admission and suggest preventive strategies.

Methods: We conducted a systematic review of the literature from January 1999 to January 2013 using MEDLINE and EMBASE databases. Manuscripts were specifically analysed for failure and side effects of haemorrhoidal surgery in ambulatory settings.

[Two pediatric cases of anti-NMDA receptor antibody encephalitis].

Although less frequent than viral encephalitis, anti-N-methyl-D-aspartate receptor (NMDAR) encephalitis is a frequent form of acute pediatric encephalitis. After a prodromal phase of flu-like symptoms, psychiatric symptoms predominate - agitation, anxiety, hallucinations - and can make correct diagnosis more difficult. Also noted are abnormal dyskinesia and dystonia-like movements, partial seizures, difficulties talking or memorizing, and autonomic manifestations.

[Urinary incontinence in nulliparous women: prevalence and evaluation of self-perineal reeducation].

Aims: To assess the prevalence of urinary incontinence (UI) in a population of young nulliparous women and the effectiveness of self-perineal exercises in symptomatic women.

Material: Three hundred and fifteen nulliparous students from French secondary establishments answered through a secure website, created for the study, an anonymous questionnaire about UI. The questionnaire included validated symptom scores (International Consultation on Incontinence Questionnaire-Short Form, ICIQ-UI SF) and quality of life (Contilife).

A self-assessed questionnaire can help in the diagnosis of pelvic inflammatory disease.

Background: Pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) is often responsible for acute pelvic pain, yet its clinical diagnosis is difficult. The aim of this study was to develop and validate prediction rules for the diagnosis of PID in patients seen for acute pelvic pain, based solely on a self-assessed questionnaire.

Methods: From September 2006 to April 2008, 499 consecutive patients presenting at the gynecology emergency departments of 5 hospitals for acute pelvic pain completed a Self-Assessment Questionnaire for Gynecological Emergencies.

Extracorporeal life support for patients with acute respiratory distress syndrome: report of a Consensus Conference.

The influenza H1N1 epidemics in 2009 led a substantial number of people to develop severe acute respiratory distress syndrome and refractory hypoxemia. In these patients, extracorporeal membrane oxygenation was used as rescue oxygenation therapy. Several randomized clinical trials and observational studies suggested that extracorporeal membrane oxygenation associated with protective mechanical ventilation could improve outcome, but its efficacy remains uncertain.
