Prevalence of epilepsy in Morocco: A population-based study.

Objective: In Morocco, there was a lack of data related to the epidemiology of epilepsy. This data serves as a useful basis for the development of any national intervention or action program against epilepsy in Morocco. Through this study, we aimed to estimate the active and lifetime prevalence of epilepsy in Morocco.

[Generalized old world leishmaniasis: first Moroccan case in an immunocompetent adult?].

Background: Post-kala-azar dermal (PKDL) is a rare skin syndrome observed after treatment of visceral (VL) with pentavalent antimonial organic salts, never described in Morocco before. Here we report a case in an immunocompetent adult.

Case: A 36-year-old-man from Tata in southern Morocco, with a history of visceral 2 years before and treated with meglumine antimoniate and amphotericin B with good clinical course, was hospitalized in dermatology for an erythematous papulo-nodular closet of the face.

The Pocketable Electronic Devices in Radiation Oncology (PEDRO) Project: How the Use of Tools in Medical Decision Making is Changing?

Purpose: To analyze the impact of mobile electronic devices (MEDs) and apps in the daily clinical activity of young radiation or clinical oncologists in 5 Western European countries (Italy, Germany, Spain, Portugal, and Denmark).

Methods: A web-based questionnaire was sent to 462 young (≤40 years) members of the national radiation or clinical oncology associations of the countries involved in the study. The 15 items investigated diffusion of MEDs (smartphones and/or tablets), their impact on daily clinical activity, and the differences perceived by participants along time.

[Orbital metastasis from mucinous adenocarcinoma of the rectum].

Orbital metastasis from colorectal cancer are extremely rare. Only six cases are described in the literature. The discrepancy between the frequency of colorectal cancer and the rarity of metastasis to the eye and orbit remains paradoxical and enigmatic.

[Acute postinfectious glomerulonephritis].

Acute postinfectious glomerulonephritis are defined by an acute nonsuppurative inflammatory insult predominantly glomerular. Its current incidence is uncertain because of the frequency of subclinical forms. The most common infectious agent involved is beta hemolytic streptococcus group A.

[Pyoderma gangrenosum and Behçet's disease: a study of two pediatric cases].

Pyoderma gangrenosum is a rare neutrophilic dermatosis that affects 4% of children. It is characterized by its association in half of the cases with an underlying disease. The association with Behçet's disease is exceptional and may have a very poor prognosis.

[Cutaneous manifestations of male breast cancer].

Objective: The appearance of skin symptoms in male breast is the main reason for consultation in our context. The aim of this study is to describe the various cutaneous manifestations of male breast cancer through a series of cases collected in a dermatology department.

Methods: A retrospective study was conducted in the dermatology department at the CHU Ibn Rochd January 1988 to December 2009.

[Familial histoid leprosy].

Background: Histoid leprosy is a very particular and rare anatomoclinical form of lepromatous leprosy. Familial cases are extremely rare. We report two new cases of histoid leprosy in a sister and brother born of a non-consanguineous marriage.

[Malignant transformation of plantar ulcers in leprosy: experience of National Leprosy Center in Casablanca].

Malignant degeneration is a late complication of plantar ulcers in leprosy. The objective of this study is to describe and analyze the epidemiological, clinical, and therapeutic aspects of this complication in Morocco. A retrospective study was conducted from January 2000 to December 2009 at the National Center of Leprosy (CNL) in Casablanca.

[Renoduodenal fistula. A case report].

The fistula between kidney and duodenum is rare. It occurs mostly in case of pyonephrotic kidney. The authors report one case of renoduodenal fistula, discovered peroperatively in 41 years old man who underwent a subcapsular nephrectomy for right pyonephrosis upon pelvic lithiasis.

[Caffey disease (infantile cortical hyperostosis)].

Case Report: A case of infantile cortical hyperostosis is reported in a 4-month old infant. The disease was revealed by changes in behavior and swelling of bones. X-rays of bones led to the correct diagnosis.

[Acute drug poisonings in children in a general pediatric service (epidemiologic profile)].

Acute drug poisonings of the child is a major problem for health authorities all over the world, and are responsible for serious morbidity with mortality risks. The present retrospective study has involved 150 cases of drug poisoning observed in the Casablanca children's hospital over a period of 7 years. Most intoxication cases are accidental (84%), (mostly in children of 1 to 5 years old 74.

Cutaneous leishmaniasis: an emerging epidemic focus of Leishmania tropica in north Morocco.

Cutaneous leishmaniasis in Morocco occurs mainly in the south and is caused by Leishmania major and L. tropica. In 1995, for the first time, 4 autochthonous cases were confirmed by smear and/or culture from the province of Taza in north Morocco.

[Bilateral Sturge-Weber-Krabbe syndrome. Apropos of a case].

We report a case of bilateral Sturge-Weber-Krabbe syndrome. The patient was a child aged 2 years. He presented facial and jugal angioma, bilateral glaucoma and epilepsy.
