Background: Use of psychostimulants and relative drugs has increased worldwide in treatment of attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) in adolescents and adults. Recent studies suggest a potential association between use of psychostimulants and psychotic symptoms. The risk may not be the same between different psychostimulants.

[Prevalence of mental disorders in French prisons: A systematic review].

Introduction: The prevalence of psychiatric disorders among prisoners remains a major public health issue worldwide. In France, despite the increasing number of persons who are incarcerated (+30% between 1992 and 2002 with a 120% prison overcrowding), and a historical concern about the mental health of persons in detention and its management, no systematic review has been published on this subject. The aim of this article is to present the results of a systematic review of the literature on the prevalence of psychiatric disorders in French prisons.

Comparing aspirin 75 to 81 mg vs 150 to 162 mg for prevention of preterm preeclampsia: systematic review and meta-analysis.

Objective: This study aimed to compare 2 aspirin dosage regimens for the prevention of preterm preeclampsia (PE): 75 to 81 mg vs 150 to 162 mg taken daily starting in the first trimester of pregnancy.

Data Sources: A systematic search was performed using PubMed, Embase, CINAHL, Web of Science, and Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials from January 1985 to April 2023.

Study Eligibility Criteria: The inclusion criteria were randomized controlled trials that compared the effect of 2 aspirin dosage regimens during pregnancy for the prevention of PE initiated in the first trimester of pregnancy.

[Addiction management in prisons].

High levels of substance-related disorders among incarcerated people have been documented and there is a lot of drug users in French prisons. Several health and social workers are involved in the management of people dealing with addictions in prison. The coordination between substance use and mental health services in correctional settings and in the community is fundamental to ensure treatment continuity for these people.

[Psychiatric care in specially equipped hospital units].

The specially equipped hospital units (UHSA) receive detainees in the region (men, women, minors) requiring full psychiatric hospitalization, either in free care or in care by decision of the State representative. They are located on the site of hospitals, but a penitentiary enclosure allows for the control of the entry and exit of patients, as well as the security of the perimeter. To date, nine UHSAs are in operation in France.

[Health needs and organization of care in prison].

The prison population in France is mostly composed of young but aging men, in relatively good health but vulnerable. In order to ensure optimal health care for this population, several levels of health care organization - somatic and psychiatric - have been set up since 1994. The different structures created since then allow incarcerated patients to benefit from care adapted to their particular conditions.

Clinical features and outcomes of COVID-19 patients hospitalized for psychiatric disorders: a French multi-centered prospective observational study.

Background: Patients with psychiatric disorders are exposed to high risk of COVID-19 and increased mortality. In this study, we set out to assess the clinical features and outcomes of patients with current psychiatric disorders exposed to COVID-19.

Methods: This multi-center prospective study was conducted in 22 psychiatric wards dedicated to COVID-19 inpatients between 28 February and 30 May 2020.

[Towards better management for sexual offenders: Presentation and conclusions of a public hearing concerning prevention, assessment, and care].

In France, since the law of June 17, 1998, sexual offenders may be convicted to ambulatory mandatory care, articulated with the justice. Twenty years after the implementation of this law, while social and technological developments have redefined certain aspects of delinquency, reference documents and practice guidelines remain to be updated. This is why the professionals of the main structures and associations dealing with perpetrators of sexual violence organized a public hearing under the sponsorship of the French Federation of Resource Centers for Sexual Violence Perpetrators (FFCRIAVS) according to the methodology and with the accompaniment of the High Authority of Health.

[Mental health care in French correctional facilities during the Covid-19 pandemic].

Objective: The impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on the 11 million people currently incarcerated worldwide is the subject of many concerns. Prisons and jails are filled with people suffering from many preexisting medical conditions increasing the risk of complications. Detainees' access to medical services is already limited and overcrowding poses a threat of massive contagion.

HPV vaccination and sexual health in France: Empowering girls to decide.

Objective: Vaccination coverage against HPV in France is among the lowest in the industrialized world, although the public authorities have recently become aware of this issue. Few studies have looked at teenaged girls' representations of this vaccination, even though they are the most concerned by it. This qualitative study explored the experiences and representations of HPV vaccination by adolescent girls seeing doctors at least occasionally.

Factitious disorders in the hand-Main diagnostic traps highlighted with 3 cases.

Every doctor can be confronted, during his career, with patients presenting symptoms they created themselves. Because it is easily accessible, the hand is a favored target organ for these self-inflicted injuries. The diagnosis of factitious disorder of the hand is very difficult, rarely suggested and widely under-estimated.

Maternal immunisation: collaborating with mother nature.

Maternal immunisation has the potential to substantially reduce morbidity and mortality from infectious diseases after birth. The success of tetanus, influenza, and pertussis immunisation during pregnancy has led to consideration of additional maternal immunisation strategies to prevent group B streptococcus and respiratory syncytial virus infections, among others. However, many gaps in knowledge regarding the immunobiology of maternal immunisation prevent the optimal design and application of this successful public health intervention.

[Work satisfaction and exhaustion among psychiatrists in psychiatric emergency services].

Background And Aim: Psychiatric emergency services (PES) have recently occupied a new and growing place in the landscape of mental health services. However, few data are available on the way psychiatrists practice in the PES. Our aim was to survey psychiatrists working in PES, focusing on their job satisfaction and the theoretical models they use in their everyday practice.

[The long road for psychiatric care in prisons].

From the 19th century to the present day, the history of psychiatry in prisons has evolved considerably. In parallel with successive laws, codes and articles, psychiatry has gained in structure. From the "medical prison", mental health consultations in every detention centre, the regional medico-psychological services, to today's specially equipped hospital units (UHSA), prisoners receive both preventive care as well as curative treatment.

Women represent a small fraction of the prison population. Major issues arise when a prisoner is both a woman and a mother. The psychological and support work is particularly important and must be aimed at both the women and their children.

Prescribed medication, self-medication or doping the use of psychoactive substances by caregivers is varied. Doping behaviour in the care environment is under-estimated and trivialised. It is often difficult to spot at an early stage and yet this consumption is not without consequences on the quality and safety of work.

[Pica: a descriptive study of patients in a speciality medical center].

According to the DSM IV, pica is a trouble of alimentary behavior, which is characterized by the ingestion of non-nutriment substances during at least on the month. The main objective of this study conducted at the Clermont-de-l'Oise Interdepartmental Medical Center is to evaluate pica's prevalence for hospitalized patients. Secondary objectives are to describe clinical characteristics, complications and outcome upon the different therapeutic approaches.
