Elderly patients with chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) are underrepresented in trials evaluating fludarabine, cyclophosphamide, and rituximab (FCR). We assessed four cycles of FCR with two additional rituximab doses on day 14 of cycles 1 and 2 in 194 untreated CLL patients > 65 years (median age 71.2) without del17p.

Dent disease is a rare X-linked tubulopathy characterized by low molecular weight proteinuria, hypercalciuria, nephrocalcinosis and/or nephrolithiasis, progressive renal failure, and variable manifestations of other proximal tubule dysfunctions. It often progresses over a few decades to chronic renal insufficiency, and therefore molecular characterization is important to allow appropriate genetic counseling. Two genetic subtypes have been described to date: Dent disease 1 is caused by mutations of the CLCN5 gene, coding for the chloride/proton exchanger ClC-5; and Dent disease 2 by mutations of the OCRL gene, coding for the inositol polyphosphate 5-phosphatase OCRL-1.

Background: Age of the patients and age of onset of psoriasis may have an impact on the disease. There is little information about psoriasis in elderly patients.
Objective: We evaluated epidemiological, clinical aspects, comorbidities and treatments of psoriasis in the elderly (>70 years) patients, and in patients with very late onset psoriasis (onset ≥ 70 years).
Background: Musculoskeletal pain is common in elderly persons. Analgesic use is high in the elderly and may involve unacceptable risk in individuals with chronic pain. Our aim was to compare the socio-demographic characteristics of elderly subjects with musculoskeletal disorders (MSD) and to assess medication use and clinical evolution of musculoskeletal pain according to physician prescribing preference: homeopathy (Ho) group, conventional medicine (CM) group, or mixed prescription (MX) group.

Thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (TTP) is a rare disease with poor prognosis in the absence of treatment. The aim of the study was to compare with the literature, the clinical, biological and therapeutic management of PTT at the hospital of Le Mans (CHM) and to identify sub groups. The criteria for inclusion were all patients hospitalized between 2006 and 2012 at CHM with a number of platelets, level of hemoglobin and ADAMTS13 activity respectively less than 150 G/L, 110 g/L and 10 %.

Introduction: To evaluate the anatomical and functional consequences of internal limiting membrane (ILM) peeling in epiretinal membrane (ERM) surgery.
Methods: Retrospective single-center study including consecutive patients operated on for idiopathic ERM. The integrity of the ILM was assessed by ILM Blue® staining after removal of the ERM: either the peeling was spontaneous (group 1) or a complementary peeling was required (group 2).

Purpose: Surgical resection plus adjuvant platinum-based chemotherapy is considered standard care for stage II to III non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC), but its efficacy is limited, and it involves toxic risks, justifying patient-tailored treatment. Excision repair cross-complementation group 1 (ERCC1) was shown to predict cisplatin-based chemotherapy response; EGFR mutations were predictive of epidermal growth factor receptor inhibition response.
Patients And Methods: This prospective randomized phase II trial enrolled 150 patients with completely resected non-squamous cell stage II or IIIA (non-N2) tumors.

Introduction: The prognosis of advanced stage chronic lung disease, including lung cancer, is often poor and associated with uncomfortable symptoms for the patient, especially in the end of life phase. In the case of intolerable symptoms, refractory to maximal treatment, sedation may then be considered. This is sometimes a source of confusion and difficulty for clinicians who need to know the official guidelines.

In France, there are large discrepancies regarding flu between the severe disease described by Health Authorities and the disease that people face, considered as usual and benign. Flu prevention is useful, mainly through vaccination. For a well-established influenza-like illness, both individual measures dedicated to the limitation of the disease propagation and symptomatic treatment are to be initiated.
