Elderly patients with chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) are underrepresented in trials evaluating fludarabine, cyclophosphamide, and rituximab (FCR). We assessed four cycles of FCR with two additional rituximab doses on day 14 of cycles 1 and 2 in 194 untreated CLL patients > 65 years (median age 71.2) without del17p.

Mutation Update of the CLCN5 Gene Responsible for Dent Disease 1.

Dent disease is a rare X-linked tubulopathy characterized by low molecular weight proteinuria, hypercalciuria, nephrocalcinosis and/or nephrolithiasis, progressive renal failure, and variable manifestations of other proximal tubule dysfunctions. It often progresses over a few decades to chronic renal insufficiency, and therefore molecular characterization is important to allow appropriate genetic counseling. Two genetic subtypes have been described to date: Dent disease 1 is caused by mutations of the CLCN5 gene, coding for the chloride/proton exchanger ClC-5; and Dent disease 2 by mutations of the OCRL gene, coding for the inositol polyphosphate 5-phosphatase OCRL-1.

Objective: Evaluate neonatal management and outcome of neonates with either a prenatal or a post-natal diagnosis of EA type III.

Study Design: Population-based study using data from the French National Register for EA from 2008 to 2010. We compared children with prenatal versus post-natal diagnosis in regards to prenatal, maternal and neonatal characteristics.

Thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (TTP) is a rare disease with poor prognosis in the absence of treatment. The aim of the study was to compare with the literature, the clinical, biological and therapeutic management of PTT at the hospital of Le Mans (CHM) and to identify sub groups. The criteria for inclusion were all patients hospitalized between 2006 and 2012 at CHM with a number of platelets, level of hemoglobin and ADAMTS13 activity respectively less than 150 G/L, 110 g/L and 10 %.

[Optical coherence tomography and microperimetry after internal limiting membrane peeling for epiretinal membrane].

Introduction: To evaluate the anatomical and functional consequences of internal limiting membrane (ILM) peeling in epiretinal membrane (ERM) surgery.

Methods: Retrospective single-center study including consecutive patients operated on for idiopathic ERM. The integrity of the ILM was assessed by ILM Blue® staining after removal of the ERM: either the peeling was spontaneous (group 1) or a complementary peeling was required (group 2).

Distal humerus fracture in the elderly: does conservative treatment still have a role?

Introduction: Conservative treatment is exceptional in fracture of the distal extremity of the humerus in patients over 65 years of age. In a selected population, however, it may be an attractive option.
