Objectives: Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) are increasingly used in cancer treatment. Their mechanism of action raises the question of possible exacerbation of preexisting multiple sclerosis (MS). The aim of our study was to assess the risk of increased MS activity, defined by the occurrence of a relapse and/or a new MRI lesion, after ICI initiation.

Background: During the COVID-19 pandemic swift implementation of research cohorts was key. While many studies focused exclusively on infected individuals, population based cohorts are essential for the follow-up of SARS-CoV-2 impact on public health. Here we present the CON-VINCE cohort, estimate the point and period prevalence of the SARS-CoV-2 infection, reflect on the spread within the Luxembourgish population, examine immune responses to SARS-CoV-2 infection and vaccination, and ascertain the impact of the pandemic on population psychological wellbeing at a nationwide level.

Background: The use of genetic testing in pediatric patients with chronic kidney diseases (CKD) has increased exponentially in the past few years, particularly with the emergence of novel sequencing techniques. However, the genetic yield remains unexpectedly low in nephrology, with an impact on diagnosis, prognosis and treatment. Moreover, the increasing diversity of genetic testing possibilities can be seen as an obstacle by clinicians, in the absence of a strong background in genetics.

Background: Perihilar cholangiocarcinoma is a challenging technique to be performed by minimally invasive approach being the type III among the most complex procedure. Nowadays, the robotic approach is gaining increasing interest among the surgical community, and more and more series describing robotic liver resection have been reported. However, few cases of minimally invasive Bismuth type IIIA cholangiocarcinoma have been reported.

Background: Primary, secondary and tertiary healthcare services in Europe create complex networks covering pediatric subspecialties, sociology, economics and politics. Two surveys of the European Society for Paediatric Nephrology (ESPN) in 1998 and 2017 revealed substantial disparities of kidney care among European countries. The purpose of the third ESPN survey is to further identify national differences in the conceptualization and organization of European pediatric kidney health care pathways during and outside normal working hours.

Background: Freezing of gait (FOG), is associated with impairment of different cognitive functions. Previous studies hypothesized that FOG may be due to a loss of automaticity.
Research Question: To explore whether FOG is associated with impairment in cognitive functions, focusing on retrograde procedural memory, the memory responsible for the automatic, implicit stored procedures that have been acquired in earlier life stages.

We report 3 cases of patients with a history of extra-mammary cancer who presented with breast nodules, leading to diagnostic challenges and occasional misleading imaging findings. These cases highlight the significance of radiologists considering breast metastases as a potential component of the differential diagnosis when assessing patients with a history of cancer who exhibit palpable breast nodules. Furthermore, these cases underscore the importance of integrating various imaging techniques with histological and immunohistochemical analyses of the lesions to achieve precise diagnoses, ultimately ensuring the highest quality of care for these patients.

Objective: To investigate asymmetry in spatiotemporal and kinetic variables in 800+ recreational runners, identify determinants of asymmetry, investigate if asymmetry is related to greater running injury risk and compare spatiotemporal and kinetic variables between the involved and uninvolved limb at baseline in runners having sustained an injury during follow-up.
Methods: 836 healthy recreational runners (38.6% women) were tested on an instrumented treadmill at their preferred running speed at baseline and followed up for 6 months.

Background: With continuously aging societies, an increase in the number of people with cognitive decline is to be expected. Aside from the development of causative treatments, the successful implementation of prevention strategies is of utmost importance to reduce the high societal burden caused by neurodegenerative diseases leading to dementia among which the most common cause is Alzheimer's disease.
Objective: The aim of the Luxembourgish "programme dementia prevention (pdp)" is to prevent or at least delay dementia in an at-risk population through personalized multi-domain lifestyle interventions.

Background: Deep phenotyping of Parkinson's disease (PD) is essential to investigate this fastest-growing neurodegenerative disorder. Since 2015, over 800 individuals with PD and atypical parkinsonism along with more than 800 control subjects have been recruited in the frame of the observational, monocentric, nation-wide, longitudinal-prospective Luxembourg Parkinson's study.
Objective: To profile the baseline dataset and to explore risk factors, comorbidities and clinical profiles associated with PD, atypical parkinsonism and controls.

Aicardi-Goutières syndrome (AGS) is a genetic interferonopathy classically characterized by early onset of severe neurologic injury with basal ganglia calcifications, white matter abnormalities, and progressive cerebral atrophy, along with lymphocytosis and raised interferon alpha (INFα) in the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF). Here, we report a 3 year-old patient born with prenatal onset AGS, first manifesting as intra-uterine growth retardation. Cranial ultrasonography and cerebral MRI revealed ventriculomegaly and periventricular and basal ganglia calcifications, along with cerebral atrophy.

Background And Objectives: Glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP) and neurofilament light chain (NfL) serum levels are useful to define disease activity in different neurologic conditions. These biomarkers are increased in patients with aquaporin-4 antibody-positive NMOSD (AQP4+NMOSD) during clinical attacks suggesting a concomitant axonal and glial damage. However, there are contradictory results in double seronegative NMOSD (DS-NMOSD).

Acquired coagulopathies resulting from factor X deficiency are rare and typically associated with amyloidosis or plasma cell dyscrasia. Factor X plays a pivotal role in the coagulation cascade, converting prothrombin into thrombin and facilitating the formation of fibrinogen and thrombus. While its occurrence following common infections is extremely rare, isolated cases have been documented.

Proximal tibial osteotomy (PTO) is an effective procedure for active and young adult patients with symptomatic unicompartmental osteoarthritis and malalignment. They were considered technically demanding and prone to various complications related to the surgical technique, biomechanical or biological origin. Among the most important are hinge fractures and delayed or non-healing, neurovascular complications, loss of correction, implant-related problems, patellofemoral complaints, biological complications and changes in limb length.

Introduction: Family and work have immensely changed and become intertwined over the past half century for both men and women. Additionally, alongside to traditional family structures prevalent, other forms of families such as single parents, LGBTQ + parents, and bonus families are becoming more common. Previous studies have shown that surgical trainees regularly leave residency when considering becoming a parent due to the negative stigma associated with pregnancy during training, dissatisfaction with parental leave options, inadequate lactation and childcare support, and desire for greater mentorship on work-life integration.
