Acute abdominal pain: the importance of genital examination.

Torsion of an intra-abdominal testis is a rare cause of acute abdominal pain. The purpose of this report is to highlight a case of torsion of an abdominal testis in a patient with an unusual clinical presentation, with the fortuitous diagnosis of a "carcinoma in situ" and to emphasize the role of routine genital examination when investigating patients with abdominal pain.

Pharmacological models in healthy volunteers: their use in the clinical development of psychotropic drugs.

Animal models of diseases are widely used in the preclinical phase of drug development. They have a place in early human clinical psychopharmacology as well, in order to get early clues that contribute to establish the proof of concept (POC) already in healthy volunteers (HV). Different types of models are available (pharmacological or non-pharmacological provocation, models based on age-related characteristics).

Laparoscopic resection of a leiomyoma of the seminal vesicle.

We present a case of a leiomyoma of the seminal vesicle that occurred in a 52-year-old man who presented with symptoms of bladder outlet obstruction. Prostate-specific antigen was within normal limit. Computed tomography scan and magnetic resonance imaging revealed a mass in the patient's right seminal vesicle.

[How I study thyroid pathology using ultrasonography-guided needle biopsy].

From a retrospective study of 259 files, the authors stress the value of US-guided thyroid cytoponction and its essential role in case of thyroid cancer suspicion. This very specific and inexpensive method fits perfectly into the other exploration techniques. It is the deciding factor in the thyroid nodule differential diagnostic and therapeutic planning.

Thyroid disorders are common in an elderly hospitalized population. They are mainly due to multiple concurrent illnesses present in these patients or the drugs prescribed. The pathophysiology of these non-thyroidal illnesses is explained.
