Pancreaticoduodenectomy after esophagectomy is a challenging procedure given the need to preserve the vascularization of the gastric plasty. We describe a case of a modified Longmire III procedure in a 68-year-old patient who underwent an esophagectomy with gastric conduit reconstruction in 2019 for esophageal adenocarcinoma. Two years later, an adenocarcinoma of the ampulla of Vater was diagnosed, necessitating pancreaticoduodenectomy with preservation of the gastric conduit.

Impact of ARTs on oncological outcomes in young breast cancer survivors.

Hum Reprod

January 2021

Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Hôpital Erasme, Université Libre de Bruxelles, Fertility Clinic, Brussels, Belgium.

Study Question: What is the risk of recurrence in young breast cancer survivors who undergo ARTs following completion of anticancer treatment?

Summary Answer: ART in breast cancer survivors does not appear to have a negative impact on disease-free survival.

What Is Known Already: In healthy women, fertility treatment does not increase the risk of developing breast cancer. At the time of breast cancer diagnosis and before starting anticancer treatments, several studies have shown the safety of performing ART.

Microvascular reconstructive techniques in orthopaedic traumatology.

Injury

December 2019

Department of Orthopaedics and Traumatology, Cliniques Universitaires de Bruxelles, Hôpital Erasme, Université libre de Bruxelles, Brussels, Belgium. Electronic address:

Great evolution has taken place in Orthopaedic Traumatology, regarding techniques, surgical means and equipment. However, we still encounter complicated cases of limb trauma that necessitate microvascular reconstruction. Through three different illustrative cases (one emergency foot revascularization by a free flap, covering an ankle arthrodesis and bridging the anterior tibial artery, one cure of a complex infected tibial non-union with extensive skeletal defect by double barrel fibular transfer and one osteo-chondral reconstruction of the scaphoid proximal pole using a vascularized graft harvested from the femoral medial condyle), the authors remind the Orthopaedic community about the benefits of microsurgery, especially if used in proper indication and timing.
